All That Glitters

Eidolon foaled around midnight, as she is wont to do. Chestnut splash filly; splashes on four legs and belly; blaze; blue eyes. Lolo gave us plenty of warning before she foaled, and the right people were on speed dial when we realized that she wasn't producing milk. Lucy has been coerced into acting as nurse mare, but she's not exactly willing or able to handle two babies for a long period of time, and Lolo isn't exactly pleased either; we hope Cal is as close to foaling as she appears to be so that the older, wiser one can be the nurse.

We did what seemed like hundreds of tests on Eidolon herself, and found that the culprit behind her agalactia was the fungus Acremonimum coenophialum, living in a patch of grass in the brood pasture. We have fenced off that part of the pasture and taken steps to eradicate the fungus and to treat all our horses for possible infection, though Lolo appears to be the only affected individual.

Sophie herself is just damn adorable, and loves mom and aunt Lucy equally, and appears completely oblivious to the trouble she's rooted out. She may be slightly smaller than she would have been if not for the fungus, but she's strong, healthy and cute as a button.

Temperament: Drop-dead adorable, and knows it. In spite of her mother, Sophie is a cuddly thing. She adores physical contact, from people, other horses, cats, whatever, and does her best to seek it out at all times. She's also the very definition of playful; even the very first time they were outside together, Freckles could barely keep up.
