It has been 6 years now since I have been uploading here on deviantart. 6 years ago I noticed youtubers that I liked had pages, I wanted to be like them. I had been drawing for a couple of years before that, but this has the starting point of my digital art hobby. Many things have changed over the years, and with that so has my main oc. I might even start calling her my fursona now. She goes by the name I use for everything, Gravelleaf. The name started from a massive interest in the warriors book series, which also was the reason why my interest in art became so large. Gravel has changed with me as I went from a preteen to teen to young adult, and I can imagine that she will keep changing along with me. So in celebration of my 6 years on deviantart I will pull together some of the pictures of Gravelleaf from the beginning to now.
The first one of her posted back in 2011 with her original design (Kinda glad I never went through a rainbow faze) This was done in MS paint at my middle school, with a mouse. 14 years old when posted (probably 12-13 when drawn)
This was done in the same year, I just tried to use the blend tool to make it much cooler, then realizing that layers were important and this wasn't going to work like I had planned. 14 when posted (Probably drawn 12-13 but edited at 14)
Later that year I tried to make fur texture, I also changed Gravel's eye from blue to purple/violet. 14 years old when drawn.
Still 2011, I admit this was traced from a real cat. As you can see it still went poorly lol. Not gonna count this as actually drawn, but I was 14.
Now into 2012, still using a mouse and trying new things with shadows. Used MS paint quite frequently to make text. Second one same year, just a bit later. 15 when drawn.
Now there is a small gap where I didn't draw her digitally or post anything that I drew of her. So nothing for 2013.
Towards the end of 2014 I started going back into my drawings because I found a new purpose for my art, drawing for other people. People were actually interested in my art at that point. Mainly because I joined a minecraft prison server and had become quite well known. This is when I changed Gravelleaf from being a normal warrior cat oc to a winged cat fitting an original story. I thought I might want to change her name because she was so different and not a warrior cat anymore, but I loved the name so much I had to keep it. With not drawing with a mouse for a while I had gotten a little rusty, so the first couple seem to go back a step in skill. I started making my own forum pictures. Then I go back to drawing the original Gravel with the new, colors varied back then because I never thought of the importance of keeping them exact each time. 17 years old.
2014 still, posted for New years eve. Still 17.
2015 is when I finally got a drawing tablet still 17 for these drawings. Also drew the old Gravelleaf with a slightly new design (Added darker lines for scars on one leg, used her for a vent art because I felt like I was slipping back into who I used to be) I then did a redo of one of my oldest drawings of the original Gravel.
2015 I have a looot of art from 2015 to now because of the people on cityprison encouraging me to keep going. They made it fun. Still a beginner in backgrounds and not really sure on how to properly shade. Made a new profile picture because I hadn't made a proper one since I got my drawing tablet. Made an actually speedpaint for the 3rd one in this row. I was quite happy with how things were going at that point in time. Still 17 at this point.
2015 Finally 18 at this point, still experimenting on my style quite massively making things never really look the same. Still working with the solid shading instead of the smooth shading that I do. Third one is a painting like thing that I tried, which I still use as my screensaver. I tried to get as much texture in as possible.
2015 When I was nervous for graduating high school I made this. Small gap because of the house fire. Was quite depressed from everything so did a bit of vent art. Then I made an actual reference sheet because I figured I should have one and called it lazily done because I kinda forced it out without trying too hard. Fourth picture because I was working more with her being a tough character. Fifth picture is another one made for cityprison and skype. Sixth one is me trying out making an animated picture for deviantart. Then I finally do a human reference for her because she is actually a human who gains the ability to transform into a cat. Whole story is in the bios. Then a picture of both together cause it felt cool at the moment. Then I went for a nice lineless approach which actually ended up looking pretty cool.
2015 still (man there was a lot more than I thought) Towards the end of 2015 I started trying more with spending more time on things to make them look better, thus the wip that I may never finish.
2016 in the beginning I was drawing more for other people than myself for didn't draw her at first. But then I made this for my Deviantart ID, I also used it for many other things because it was a successful attempt at making her look cute, 18 for this one. The next one was much later, I was 19 by then. I made it for my youtube background because I was frequently making speedpaints. The third one I spent a lot of time on trying to make everything perfect, and eventually bought this picture as coasters that I use quite a bit. 2016 was a year made up of mostly drawing for other people. So I rarely drew finished things of Gravelleaf.
2017 still 19 don't know exactly what to day on this but yeah.
2017 20 years old working more with correct anatomy and detail. I can't wait to see how much further I will go in the next year with her! And many more years!
Special thanks to everyone who has pushed me to keep going, and especially those who took interest in my art when no one else would. I love you guys!
