Bonjour Glitter

On behalf of Grand-Photography, I'd like to invite you to get to know our admins. We all aim to work together to make this a wonderful community for our members. We are always open to suggestions, and if anyone has any thoughts/ideas then feel free to send us a note.

Founder MatusMajer "Photography has been a big part of my life for the past number of years. I've worked with a number of societies, groups, and photographers around the world to capture beauty. Photography is a very subjective topic; nonetheless, any good piece is meant to have that energetic impact."

Co-Founder Smurfage "I have a strong eye for design. My experience in art spans 12 years, including a degree and certification, and includes knowledge of art history, critique, color theory, design and composition, and fundamental photography. I believe in fair play and honesty, bringing those roles to the table as an admin."

Contributor DaisyDinkle "I'm a hobbyist who has been studying photography casually for about 2 years now. I have always had a love for it. Being an admin in over 4 groups has taught me so much about how to judge the quality of a photo, and that knowledge has helped me with my own images as well. It has also given me the ability to work and talk with some amazing artists."

Contributor ateist-kleranty "Nothing professional, nothing special. I'm self-taught, I got everything from the newest bible - INTERNET. By reading, viewing websites with information about photography. Self-improvement by taking a large number of photos, tests, treatment, tons of hours spent with the camera and the computer. I have won few internet competitions. My shots have been published in both US, UK independent magazines."

Contributor JoycelynSiew "I've been a photographer for over 3 years specializing in nature photography. It is a creative expression of my love for adventure that expresses a world departing from our normal city life. I have been an admin in 3 photography groups focusing on quality."

Contributor lexxii "I'm a fun loving and 'free~spirited' girl who models occasionally and is working on a communications degree looking forward to working in broadcasting. I have great passion for photography and music as it has a deeper meaning to it."

Contributor monikamolnar "I've always been interested in photography, it has been my hobby ever since I got my first camera. I shoot various topics, for me it's not the theme but the feeling that matters. I love how a good photo can create such an awesome atmosphere. As an admin, I believe it's important to judge fairly and give chances for everyone to improve."

Contributor NB-Photo I'm not a pro, but I have been taking pictures since I was 14, with a Practica SLR owned by my Dad. To take pictures has been an important way of connecting to the world around me ever since. Although I have not specialized in any genre, cats, big or small, are the love of my life. I'm also interested in photographing anything (or anyone) else that comes my way and has beautiful shapes or colors."

Contributor sAARGe "I was watching a documentary on photography one evening and the next morning I decided to get a dslr. I've been playing with it from over 2 years and have fallen in love with macro, architectural, landscape and night time photography."

Contributor sizuka-90 "Photography is all about capturing the right moment and having chances to explore a lot of interesting places. Photography and modelling has already been my life ever since I can remember"

Contributor TimiGL "Photography is the beauty's proof. There's no word to describe the meaning of photography. With it you can capture important moments of our lives. Simply said a photography can worth more then a 1000 words. That's why I love it. "

Contributor WorldII "I'm Andy Brotherton from Wales, UK. Been a professional photographer for over 10 years. I shoot mostly fashion and commercial photography. I live and breath photography. I am also a member of the Royal Photographic Society here in the UK where I judge and enter shots into National and International contests. I was the winner of the best digital shot of 2010."

Best Regards,

:community: Dear Everyone :community:

I'd like to start by apologizing to absolutely everybody including all admins, members, and watchers; this group would be nothing without YOU!

I think everyone deserves an explanation to why I have been away for almost 2 years, and therefore I will try to share it with you in the shortest way possible.

One of my photographs that I have taken on 7th January 2012, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque,  has been stolen and mass produced without my consent. My image was placed on mugs, magnets, postcards etc. and sold for large sums of money to millions of tourists across United Arab Emirates. One might think it would be an honour, but to have your own work of art used as someone else's was absolutely devastating. I must say that it made me loose hope in humanity, photography, and art in general. It took over two years, but I'm tired of being defeated!

On top of this unfortunate selfish act of some businessman, my database of over 35,000 photos crashed at the same time as my backup. Luckily, I've managed to recover all the photos however, they were all mixed up. To date I still have over 15,000 photos to go through and organise accordingly.

It's been these two main unfortunate events in my life that took me away from what I love. But just like with any true hobby, you will always come back sooner or later.

What does this mean for Grand-Photography?
I have started something and I refuse to give up. I owe it to my dedicated members, watchers, and admins. I would like to thank you all, in particular Smufage who tried his absolute best with the rest of the team to keep this group going. I know that a new group has been created: The--Cutting--Edge & I plan to work together with the new group to making the dA community a better place.

Why won't I leave again?
We all learn from our own mistakes. One of the biggest mistakes that I have made, was giving up because of some events. I will never allow such to control my life again.

What's Next?
As I have just returned, please be informed that it will take some time to get this group fully functional. I plan to have it back running ASAP & will keep you all updated along the way!!

Pink Happy HeartTHANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORTPink Happy Heart

Yours Truely,
Matus Majer - Founder

P.S. Grand-Photography will be 3 years old on the 25th July 2015

Dear Grand Photographers (and our watchers!),

In case you haven't noticed, our Founder has been absent for a long time now, leaving us moderators in control of (or lack thereof) the group. We have always wanted to have a more active group and get more involved with you guys, but due to lack of control I and my fellow admins have over the group's workings, we're stuck, and riddled with inconsistencies. Voting is irregular, feedback is erratic, and the standards have sunk over time. Not good!

Earlier this year, I made a list of the pros and cons of this great group, and what can be done to make it even better. In February, we made it happen, and it's working out wonderfully. It is everything Grand-Photography should have been all along!

So without further ado, I present to you :iconthe--cutting--edge: !

The--Cutting--Edge is Grand-Photography +1. It's cleaned up, bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Here are the improvements we've made, compared to this current group:

:bulletgreen: Small, streamlined, quality admin team. Proven to understand qualities and technicalities of photography.
:bulletgreen: Higher standard of acceptance.
:bulletgreen: Efficient voting system.
:bulletgreen: Dramatically reduced wait times: ( ~1-2 day vs. up to 1 week here)
:bulletgreen: NO expirations (unless we take a break, you'll be notified).
:bulletgreen: Much better handling of feedback/critique. You're not just automation submitting photos, you're a real person too, and we respect that more than ever.
:bulletgreen: Contests.
:bulletgreen: A cleaner look and professional feel. You take photography seriously, we take our duties seriously too! Photographers and watchers alike should be happy.

We began sending out personal invites some time ago, but it became a burden, so I'm cordially inviting everyone who has not yet joined, to please, please do so. We are very active in the new group, whereas here, as you have probably noticed, we are not. So join us at The--Cutting--Edge, and keep your submissions coming! Know any fellow photographers who might be interested? Invite them too! :) Our new group has a lot of promise, but we need your help (yes YOU!) to make it happen.

I should also mention, I encourage all of you to remain in this group as well in case the Founder, Matus, decides to return to the site. We have built a good empire here, and I'd hate to see it crumble, he would be proud. If he returns, this group would spring to life again!

I'll close by saying...

We have no control over the status of Grand-Photography, so consider it abandonware, mostly. You can still submit, but you're rolling the dice if your photo gets voted on or not. Our time and effort is being spent at our new home.

Thank you Grand Photographers for a great time, and hopefully in the future we can bring this place back to life, but for now, onwards and upwards!

Join us in The--Cutting--Edge! :iconhurrayplz:

Reminder about declined submissions...

Dear Grand-Photography Family,

Because we strive for perfection, small details that may be insignificant to other groups, matter here. Your photos are typically discussed at length, with opinions spread around. So we would just like to remind you that you are welcome to an admin (or multi-admin) critique for any declined shot you wish. If your photo was accepted by other high-end groups, we totally understand you may not want a critique because we "saw things differently"- that's why we offer the option.

Simply reply to our decline message. We'll offer you an educated response.

:bulletpurple::bulletpurple: If your declined photo doesn't come with a message, try replying to the submission process or get in touch with us. Sometimes our admins are in a rush, forgetful, or some other excuse. It doesn't mean we don't care! Just let us know.

We really love seeing your great photos. Keep sending your best, so we can display it proudly for all to see!

As always, we're here for your questions, concerns, and considerations. Get out there and snap something great!

- Jay

I'm leaving. I used to be very enthusiastic about this group, but since our founder is AWOL, there's no point in staying.
