That's right, the time has finally come. Comic submissions for the anthology Gothology Book III: Theatre of Tragedy are due today. We will be spending the next day or two going over the comics we have, and will then be sending releases and any corrections out to artists who have made it into the book.

For artists who don't make it into the book, we will try our best to contact you as well, but we can't make any promises.  We've been busy with a lot of "real life" things recently, so we might not have the time to contact everyone. Just know, though, we greatly appreciate everybody's efforts and would sincerely like to express our gratitude for everyone who submitted works, expressed interest, and helped us get this book done. Really, I don't think we would have finished this book without all the help we have gotten this time around.

There is no set release as of the moment, but it probably still a couple of months off. We have something special planned this time around which will delay printing for a little while. It will be well worth it, though, if all goes to plan. I would love to elaborate more on this, but for the moment,  just hold on tight for a little longer.. an announcement on this will be coming within the next month or two.

UPDATE: 7/14/11: ONE MORE DAY UNTIL COMICS ARE DUE
UPDATE: 7/12/11: 3 more days until the 15th.
UPDATE 7/11/11: Copies of The Eternal Sad will still be available on DAPshow for $14 dollars until our stock runs out.
UPDATE 6/22/11: Gothology Comics' website has now officially moved to gothologycomics.com. The old website no longer works. Please update your links.

==============================================

Today we bring both good news and bad news. The bad news is we are about 70 pages short of a completed book and a release of Theatre of Tragedy is still a ways off. The good news however is we are placing a second deadline, so if you missed our original deadline, you still have a chance to get your comic/art in. The new deadline will be the 15th of July. You may also recognize that date as sir Ian Curtis' birthday.

Our prediction of Tragedy coming on 4/20/11 may have been off, but if Harold Camping has taught us anything, it's that we can just pick another date, and we feel very good about 7/15/11.

A reminder of our submission guidelines:

Requirements:
3+ page comic relating to the theme (must be b/w or grayscale/toned)
1 photo/drawing for artist bio
Contact Info (e-mail, website)/A paragraph or two about yourself for artist bio

Page Sizing:
6.625 x 10.25 inches (168 x 260 mm)
With bleed, 7 x 10.5 (178 x 267 mm)
For safety, text should be inside 6 x 9 inches (152 x 229 mm)
Text that is in the bleed, will most likely get cut off
Pages must be at least 300dpi

Illustrations:
We are taking Illustrations, as well. Same size requirements, and should have contact information sent in with them. Inside front and inside back illustrations can be in color. We can only use a few illustrations for each book (though, we will hold ones we like for future books).

Email submissions to gothology(at)dapshow(dot)com!

***UPDATE - 5/20/2011: For the time being, our website can only be reached @ books.dapshow.com/gothology***

To those who have sent in comics and illustrations for the third volume of Gothology: Thank you. The submissions we have been receiving are quite nice and this book is shaping up to be our best yet. We should have had some contact with everyone who has submitted by now. If we haven't replied to you to let you know we have it, contact us to see if we have gotten it.

We are currently reviewing submissions, and within the next two weeks well send out emails out to each contributor with any changes needed (if any), and a release form if their contributions are approved.

To those who HAVEN'T sent in anything and were working on submissions or wanted to, we still have plenty of space to fill -- so we'll still be taking submissions until the latter part of May -- this especially goes out to those who have been given some extra time to already. In case you need a refresher, here's a link to the requirements for Theatre of Tragedy.

The days have died off one by one, in what seems like no time at all, and the due date for Theatre of Tragedy is now upon us (April 20th). So, make those finishing touches and send in your comics in today before midnight - send them to gothology@dapshow.com.

Be sure to send in everything that is required. If you happen to have forgotten what the requirements are, check the Theatre of Tragedy website.

Also, if you are almost done, but just won't be able to finish today, drop us an email and let us know about it. We could possibly give you some more time based on how much you have left or how well we know you. If we've already told you that you could have extra time, don't worry about this.

We'll be spending the next week going through the submissions, and will try to reply to everyone letting them know we received their work.

And, always remember, fangs out!
5 more days until comics are due for Theatre of Tragedy. Time is tight, but keep on working diligently!

If anyone feels they need a little more time, or knows that they won't be able to finish on time, please drop us an email and let us know about it.

In case you forgot, here is a list of requirements, and some other notes.

MORE ON THEATRE OF TRAGEDY

Tombstones v3.0

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 5, 2011, 10:52 PM

We have done this for the last two Gothology books, and artists seemed to enjoy it. It's also a great way for us to keep tabs on artists. So here it is again -- a list of users offering up their souls for Theatre of Tragedy.

:iconshelde5000::icontoxictoothpick::icondonteatthefish::iconmikeluckas::icons-c-fowlie::iconnina-bee::icondawgmastas::iconjackjersey::iconvampiressartist::iconneurotic-elf::iconpoj5::icondin0lich::iconmel-the-4th::iconvicarelovelace::iconzsabreuser::icon39jbk93::iconangieness::icondrsalt::iconcraigarndt::iconand-babel-fell::iconaracnidos::iconliboggs::iconlazereyes::iconjohnnybuddahfist::iconphoenix-84::icondelshark::iconhunchdebunch::iconnicparris::iconmooncalfe::iconjinguj::icongaragos::icongithos::iconjohnnygogo::iconz-comix::iconvoltaira::iconcandy2021::iconrue-foxclover:

If anyone else is planning on contributing, leave a comment or send a note, and we'll add you to the list. Though, if you'd rather just work on it and not tell us, that is perfectly fine too.

NOTE: Don't get discouraged by this big list and think we don't have room for you. There is a couple reasons why we aren't putting a cap on the artists.

1. We know that things come up, and a few artists might not be able meet the deadline.  It's not an "official list" of artists, but mainly a list of people wanting to contribute.

2. The first book almost had enough pages to release it as two. So, for each Artist Call period since then we "secretly" hope we can get closer to doing that however unlikely.

ARTIST CALL: Theatre of Tragedy, pt 2

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 23, 2010, 1:59 PM

As seen in our last post, the 3rd book in the Gothology series is now underway and we are looking for artists to help contribute.  And, so you guys don't have to go digging, here are some more details regarding submissions for Theatre of Tragedy. Though, all of the details are listed on the Tragedy page now, I would like to go into a little more detail.

All of the details are listed on the Tragedy page now, I would like to go into a little more detail.

1) Regarding the theme of the book -- like all of the Gothology books (all 2 of them) before it -- it is a general "Goth".  Basically, this can be related to the Gothic subculture, or is an interest of the Gothic subculture.

2) Comic length: we are pretty lenient on this. The minimum we have in place is 3 pages.  That is just the minimum, you can do longer comics, in fact we encourage that. If you want to do a shorter comic, it is fine as long as it is good, and it works for that length.  1 page comics will be counted as an illustration.

There is not an 'official' maximum page count.  You can make a comic a long as you like, but keep in mind a really long comic (30/40+ pages) has a better chance of getting cut for room.  Then again, if we have to cut a long comic to free up some space, and it is really great, we may contact the artist about publishing it on its own.

3) All comics/illustrations must be scanned at at least 300dpi.  Scanning at a higher resolution would be even better, but if it's anything under 300, there is a good chance it will not be print quality, and we won't be able to use it.

4) All comics MUST be creator-owned (unless its public domain), and all artists keep those rights, we only ask for printing rights.

5) ALL COMICS ARE DUE ON APRIL 20th, 2011.

ARTIST CALL: GOTHOLOGY, Theatre of Tragedy

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 21, 2010, 7:09 PM

It brings Gothology Comics and DAPshow Press much displeasure to present, the 3rd book of GOTHOLOGY, Theatre of Tragedy.

Once again, we call for artists to explore their inner melancholy, and submit to us comics of misery and despair.  These comics can be anything relating to Gothic culture.  If it's dark, gruesome, depressing, frightening, or all of the above -- it's fits in this collection, and we would like to have it featured in the book of wretchedness.

We've launched an official an official site for Theatre of Tragedy.  You may have found it already based on all the hints we've been posting around -- A Tragedy Awaits Us.

To keep up with the latest happenings of our terrifying new comic anthology, keep tabs on the Theatre of Tragedy website.  It has requirements, previews, and a countdown to the due date for submissions (which is April 20th, 2011, by the way).  We will also post updates here,  Gothology's website, as well as on DAPshow and its social networks.

If you have any questions, check out our FAQ. You can also just ask here or shoot us an email. We'll be more than happy to answer!

Pass this news of Theatre of Tragedy around.  This one will be special.

Good evening Children of the night,  we bring unto you a review of the disgustingly vile book Misery Loves Company.  It is from our melancholy peers from From the Tomb Magazine.

Not Quite Dead

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 2, 2010, 3:47 PM
We haven't logged on this account in a while since we've been busy trying to get other stuff together - but GOTHOLOGY is not dead!  Here are some updates.

Next book?

The GOTHOLOGY spin-off might not happen this year.  So, the next GOTHOLOGY book might not be released until 2011.  We are sorry if you were looking forward to get in on the next volume and you were hoping it would be soon, but we are trying to focus our time and efforts on some other things - including other anthologies and solo books.

If anyone is interested in those, keep some tabs on our dA group DAPshow or website dapshow.com

As far as GOTHOLOGY comics go, if you have them, send them in.  If we get enough pages from, we'd print up another volume.  If not, we'd hold on to the submissions until the next official volume.

Chicago Comic-Con

Who is going?  We are not sure if we're going to be there yet.  At least one of the editors will most likely be there.  I am not sure if we will have a table yet, but it'll be posted here if we do.

2011 is when we hope to really hit the con circuit, but other cons we could possibly be able to go to include New York Comic Con, Florida Supercon, and Big Apple Comic Con.

We'll have some more news to post within the next month.  Have a miserable day.

GOTHOLOGY: Misery Loves Company Released

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 18, 2010, 8:01 PM
Children of the night, I bring you horrible news.  No longer will we suffer through our misery alone.  For, we now have a companion.  Our worst dreams are finally true, and Misery Loves Company is now ready for purchase at Indy Planet www.indyplanet.com/store/produ… .

We decided to do things differently this time and get all of our own stock - for selling at cons and our publisher's (DAPshow) website - from what we make from sales at Indy Planet.  It's a bit less risky and more nonprofit.  So, for now, Indy Planet will be the only place to sell it online unless some internet retailers get copies.

And, speaking of retailing, Misery Loves Company CAN be picked up through comic shops.  If you live next to one, let them know about our distributor - Comics Monkey.

As far as more volumes of GOTHOLOGY, we don't know right now.  We are planning on doing a zombie themed spin-off at some point this year, but as of this post, don't know when exactly that is.  The good news is, we are now taking submissions year round.  So, you can do comics for GOTHOLOGY whenever you please.  Here is a link to the submission guidelines books.dapshow.com/gothology/su… - the same as always.  If you are dying to get into something else, our publisher has some interesting things going on dapshow.com

Misery Bound

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 15, 2010, 12:46 AM

Misery Loves Company has been sent to the printers.  Our misery is approaching, and should be out by mid-February, though it could possibly be sooner.

We are pretty proud of Misery Loves Company, and think it came out great.  It is 272 pages - that's 20 pages more - and it will be available for the same price as the first.

And, since this Misery is upon us, its website has been updated.  Complete with an artist list and previews of 6 comics.  You can see it here books.dapshow.com/gothology/mi…

Also, in other news, our publisher DAPshow Press is putting together another comic anthology called Cat Odes.  Proceeds from which will be donated to ASPCA®.  This makes us miserable, but you guys should check it out dapshow.com/article/cat-odes
