Description

What if...? Luz split the curse with Eda and became the Owl Girl in "Young Blood, Old Souls"?

The Watcher: Every journey has a beginning. But change one step along the way, and you can end up at a very different destination.

Luz, Lilith, and King were on their way back from the Emperor’s Castle, riding on top of the Owl Beast that used to be Eda. When they’d reached the Owl House, Eda collapsed onto the ground. She was exhausted, nearly dead from the petrification ceremony. Luz saw her pain and she couldn’t take it.

Luz: Don’t worry, Eda. I’ll run and get you some elixir, and—!

Before Luz could finish, she was interrupted by Lilith, who placed her hand on top of her shoulder.

Lilith: No, human. No amount of elixir can heal her now.

Sad as it was, Luz knew she was right. She exhausted every last ounce of her bile sac trying to save her. But she also knew who was really at fault. Lilith was the one who cursed her, even if she didn’t intend for things to turn out the way they did. Taking Lilith’s story to heart, Luz has an idea that could possibly save Eda as she turned to her.

Luz: But I know what can.

Lilith nodded to her, convinced the two were thinking the same thing. She looked towards Eda with a guilty expression on her face.

Lilith: Me, too. I should’ve done this a long time ago, sister.

But before Lilith could get to her, Luz stood up and stood in-between her and Eda.

Luz: No, Lilith. You’ve done enough already. If anyone’s going to do it... it’s me.

Lilith and King stood in complete surprise. They never expected Luz to say that, of all things. The latter was especially concerned over what it could do. And Lilith could only imagine the pain she’d have to endure. Odds are, she’d most likely be overwhelmed by it all within a week.

King: Luz, are you sure about this?

Lilith: You don’t know what that curse could do to you?

Luz wasn’t really in the mood to hear Lilith out. Grateful as she was that she helped Eda get free, she still couldn’t get over who cursed her in the first place.

Luz: So what? I’m supposed to just let you make things worse for her than you already have?! Not a chance!

Lilith’s face sank in guilt. She wasn’t wrong about her role in this whole mess. However, King was more worried than ever about Luz, especially with her anger.

King: But Luz, even if you do help Eda, you’ll end up getting into a world of pain you couldn’t even imagine. And I’d like to see it happen to my enemies, but... I don’t want to see it happen to you.

Luz saw how sad King was getting. This must be getting him very scared. And he rarely ever showed it to this extent. Still, Luz knew Lilith wasn’t the only one at fault. She put herself at risk just to help her, and it only made Eda feel worse. She replied to King with a solemn look on her face.

Luz: It might be just as well. It’s my fault Eda used up her magic anyway.

Eda overheard Luz’s words and felt sick to the stomach just hearing it.

Eda: No, Luz, come on. Did you honestly just forget about everything I told you? I ended up captured, again, for my actions. You’re didn’t have anything to do with them.

Luz couldn’t find the heart to believe it, especially when all the evidence pointed to the contrary. Who else could the Owl Lady try so hard to save?

Luz: Didn’t I?! All of this happened because I tried looking for something that was impossible in the first place! And now, your magic is gone! And so is... so is my only way home...

Luz broke down into soft sobs as she put her hands on her face. Eda and King couldn’t bear to see it from her. As for Lilith, she turned her head away, the guilt having doubled in amount from this. Eda tried once again to comfort her, but Luz stopped her as she sniffled.

Eda: Luz—

Luz snapped back at her with a hurt and determined look on her face, a look that could send chills into one’s spine. Eda wasn’t aware that someone as adorable as her would have that kind of face.

Luz: No, Eda. This is the only way I can make this up to you. Don’t try to talk me out of it, because I’m doing this, whether you want me to or not. Am I clear?

Eda had to reluctantly agree. She couldn’t talk her out of leaving her with the portal and going back home before. What point would there be to talk her out of this now? She gave a solemn sigh as she conceded.

Eda: Alright. I’ll bite. But are you sure this is what you want? If you do this, there might be no going back.

Luz didn’t turn away from Eda as she knelt down in front of her, a single tear falling from her face.

Luz: I am.

Eda’s face sank down a bit in worry before she looked over to Lilith, hoping she could talk sense into her. But the sad thing was, Lilith was just as aware of the folly, especially when she got a taste of her stubbornness firsthand. She only conceded because she knew the human spoke the truth. There’d be no point in trying to deny it. She cane up in-between Luz and Eda with a sad look on her face before she spoke in solemness.

Lilith: I’ll initiate the transfer. I just hope this is what you wanted... Luz.

Luz felt touched by Lilith’s words. It was the first time she ever called her by her own name. But she knew that she shouldn’t get too distracted by that. Though, she gave her a sincere smile. She may still not be in any mood to let Lilith go near Eda, this may be the only exception she’d ever allow.

Lilith: With this spell declared, let the pain be shared.

With that, Eda and Luz were both taken overwhelmed by the blinding blue light, the latter holding her eyes closed as the light overtook her.

The Watcher: The Emperor always told the witches of the Boiling Isles that achieving your goals required sacrifice. Those were the teachings Lilith chose to live by. Ironically, it was those same teachings that drive her to curse Eda in a fit of jealousy, only for a different result than what she had planned to occur.

For those thirty years since, Lilith Clawthorne tried to have her sister join the Emperor’s Coven and heal her curse to fulfill their childhood dream. In the end, she chose to sacrifice her own magic to save Eda, allowing the both of them to learn their potential and feel each other’s pain. But in this universe, Luz Noceda made the sacrifice herself out of distrust and a guilty conscience. And her whole understanding of the world is going to change, for better or worse...
