The Owl House: CoS - Lucifer Blackburn

"I wanted you to see what you made me... a monster."

Long ago, during the Savage Ages, Lucifer Scorpio was a young witch who was born to a powerful Witch Lord that pressured him not to grow attached to ”lesser beings” out of worry for his family name, though he showed some sentiment of fatherly love to him. Unfortunately, when he was still a boy, Lucifer was struck by the Black Lightning, the worst to come from the Boiling Rain which plagued him with a sickness that dampened his magic and subjected him to a decay in health.

The lord tried everything to cure his son of his sickly state, but nothing he tried worked. After many failures, there were scarcely any resources left for him, his coven, and his son all together: one of them had to go. And when it came down to either him or his son... it was obvious which choice he made. He decided to get rid of him through a death curse in order to "cut out the cancer", using the Blackened Tome. But the curse backfired.

As it turned out, the death curse itself had an addendum, stating that if it was successful, it would bind the spirit of that victim to the one who killed him, extending to bloodline after bloodline. His father was his first victim in this cursed life, torturing him and killing him before taking over his body and overtaking him until nothing was left of him to occupy the body. Thus, Lucifer Scorpio had died, and in his place rose Lucifer Blackburn, the most dangerous Wicked Witch to have ever existed.

For a decade, Lucifer had terrorized the Boiling Isles since his rebirth, leaving witches and demons stained left and right in a violent display of blood and death. But by that point, he began to realize that another of his kin was left alive. Prior to her death, her mother hid away his younger sister, Mary, to protect her from a rival group that aimed to get even with the Witch Lord. And though she did not survive, she was successful. This angered Lucifer, believing that she should never have lived in peace while he lived in decay. When the two confronted each other, Lucifer tried out his own spell to get even: the Blackburn Curse (the curse for which he'd gotten his name).

After his father's failed attempt to murder him, Lucifer collaborated from that and made a viciously more lethal curse from it. Once used, it will not only kill the victim, but it will also take away their magic to replenish his own. Blackburn used his curse, and he did succeed in taking her life and magic. However, that was when he learned the price the hard way.

Much like himself, Mary was subjected to the same addendum Lucifer was lucky enough to receive. Believing she would be easy prey like the others, Lucifer tried to kill Mary and take over her body, but since he took away her magic in her mortal life (which was cut short), it gave her spirit the strength to overpower his. Lucifer taunted Mary, saying that if she killed him, his body would die, too, and he saw to it that his spirit would always find a way to remind the Boiling Isles what the cancer had become: a plague. However, Mary instead found a workaround: she imprisoned Lucifer in his own mind and took over his body. From there, she'd received a darker boost to her magic, but she used them in defense of those who couldn't defend themselves, thus creating the Shadow Coven, a Coven that operated within the shadows to overthrow tyrants and dictators if necessary while also serving to defend the Boiling Isles and the Witches who lived there.

Over the years, Lucifer's Blackburn Curse was passed down from generation to generation, each taking the mantle of watching over Lucifer Blackburn while also granting the current user access to their own magics. Many countless decades had gone by, and with each one, a new spirit to keep Lucifer trapped while guiding their new host. It was only a matter of time until the bloodline found its way to the Clawthorne family. To Judith...

P.S. Lucifer will be voiced by Ray Chase and inspired by Gabriel (also voiced by Ray Chase) from Malignant. And this art is to celebrate Halloween early.
