(Edited to add a few more things I was thinking about)
Ok all joking aside, I wanted to post some thoughts here:
Being apolitical, neutral, 'centrist', or whatever label one cares to use, is a privilege that many people around the world do not have. People who are brutalized and outcast for their skin colour or gender or sexual orientation cannot choose to be apolitical. Women who struggle for equal recognition cannot be apolitical. Indigenous peoples who have been marginalized and exploited and continue to suffer the effects of historic and ongoing injustices cannot be apolitical. People who are imprisoned in 'reeducation' camps because of their beliefs cannot be apolitical. Any human who values their liberty and democracy cannot be apolitical.
To somehow equate fighting against fascism with terrorism, while entire communities have been literally terrorized and dehumanized for decades by racists, fascists, and their bootlickers is beyond warped and would only be funny to those who are privileged enough to have never suffered as they have. Using the actions of rioters to discredit wholesale the struggles of protesters while dismissing the history of police racism and brutality as 'a few bad apples' is dishonest. Comparing the violent protest actions of anti-fascist organizations with the acts perpetrated by literal Nazis as if there is any equivalence is insulting.
On some issues, there can be no impartiality. Tolerating intolerance leads to the destruction of tolerance. The people that tell you that both sides are 'just as bad' are your enemy. Something is very wrong with the world when the leader of the Land of the Free threatens to have protesters shot, praises fascists and dictators, and makes a mockery of democracy. And there is a wind of change blowing around the world. People are fed up with the status quo. The status quo is untenable.
If you've followed me on this site for the past few years you'd know that I don't really comment very often and so you'll have to excuse me if I don't post many further replies. You might also have noticed that with the exception of spam I really don't censor any of the comments posted on my pages. So feel free to post your thoughts and make your stand here for all to see. Hopefully now you will also understand where I stand without any ambiguity.
About the piece itself, it's based on a shirt that Tom Morello (Of Rage Against The Machine fame) wore featuring Moomintroll with the Antifa flag. Now I really wouldn't dare to pretend to guess what Tove Jansson would have thought about seeing her beloved character presented in this way, but as some other commenters have pointed out she is well known for her pro-queer and anti-fascist views and even drew comics satirizing Hitler during part of her illustration career. So with that in mind, this isn't completely out of left field.
Thanks for reading, stay safe, and keep up the good fight.
I haven't really been drawing MLP art and this is the username I've used on UT and NITW servers for years, so I thought it was about time to change it (:
🍚 Wow yes it's been way too long, hope you're well too and staying safe!
