“You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
March 6 to April 6for ages 13–17
When you think about it, any hero could become a villain, and any villain, a hero. It wouldn’t take much. A small change, a tiny twist of fate, a white suit or a red lightsaber, and things could be completely different.
What would cause the Joker and Batman to reverse roles? For an ogre to become a prince, Maleficent to switch places with Sleeping Beauty, Katniss Everdeen to become a tyrannical leader like President Snow, Harry Potter to join the Death Eaters?
Pick a story and character, and create an alternate scenario where a famous hero is the villain, or an infamous villain, the hero.
We’ll take the best pictures, written stories, comic panels, illustrations, or other submissions, and publish them in a book that will be distributed to select library networks across the United States and Canada and available online around the world!
All 100 Finalists will receive a handsome certificate of achievement, their submission will be considered by the Editors for inclusion in the Twist Fate anthology, a personal printed copy of the anthology and credit on the Finalist page of the anthology.
Your Submissions Can Be...
or anything else you can think of!
DeviantArt and Wattpad are joining forces for this challenge, so you can submit on either one. DeviantArt and Wattpad will each have separate staff panels to select the very best entries. Wattpad will select forty (40) entries and DeviantArt will select sixty (60) entries from each of their respective platforms. These one hundred (100) finalists will then be reviewed by a panel of editors, who will ultimately decide which submissions will be published.
March 6 to April 6, 2016
All members worldwide of Wattpad and DeviantArt between the ages of 13 and 17 at the time of the submission.
You can submit a contribution that originates in any medium, but the final submission must be in a file format accepted by DeviantArt or Wattpad, depending on where you are submitting the work.
Must be the author’s original work; you may collaborate with other members and friends but please indicate who the collaborators are; works will be selected on the basis of 1) originality and creativity; (2) comments about the work; (3) suitability to appear in a printed book form. Written entries should not be more than 2,500 words. You can submit as many times as you like but only one entry per person will be selected for the finalist round. Joining either DeviantArt or Wattpad is free.
The artist and author of the submitted work retains all rights subject to the terms and conditions for submissions on DeviantArt or Wattpad as the case may be. You will be contacted to provide permission for publication if you are selected.
The selections by Wattpad and DeviantArt will be announced on or before April 30, 2016. The selections for the Book will be announced when they are made by the Editors and before publication.
