This is what happens when Blizzard lost it's Chief Creative Officer, Rob Pardo, in 2014. Previously the Executive Vice President of Game Design, Rob Pardo was the go-to consultant for Blizzard titles like StarCraft. As a matter of fact, he was probably the prime guy to go to for questions regarding the franchise. Legacy of the Void is the first StarCraft game made mostly without him... which explains the disappointing outcome of it. Besides the really silly idea to make the Xel'Naga look like the Elder God Cthulhu, the worst change post-Pardo was making Artanis the main character instead of Zeratul (who originally was going to be the main character). To add insult to injury, Zeratul was killed early on in the LoTV campaign.
