Awesome man.
I think you'd enjoy reading "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins, a truly remarkable book :]
GlendonMellow's avatar

I love that book. Dawkins is a wonderful writer.
ChemicalRachel-xD's avatar
He absolutley is.
Have you read The Selfish Gene? It's next on my agenda.
Depends on whether it's at the library or not; I've been brought up Catholic [oh yes, another ssd victim of child indoctrination] so I have to kinda hide these books. Plus I go to a "faith" school so I have to be quite discreet to avoid trouble. Pathetic really :/
GlendonMellow's avatar
Actually, Selfish Gene is one of the only books by Dawkins I haven't read so far. I started with River out of Eden, and have read everything except Climbing Mount Improbable and Selfish Gene.

It's not pathetic. And you're not alone. Sometimes hiding stuff like that from the ones you love is an act of bravery too.

You may enjoy reading the blog and books of Dale McGowan (disclosure: I painted his blog banner -I was a fan from before that though!)

My biology teacher has a few books, of which he's willing to lend me; we can't really have discussions about it because he could get sacked which is annoying.

The reason I hide them is I don't want to offend them, my mum's had a really hard life and having a bit of faith has gotten her through it so I'm fine with that.

I'll have a read, thanks :)

Thanks! It seems to resonate well with people. Much appreciated!

To quote the great david attenborough

"My response is that when Creationists talk about God creating every individual species as a separate act, they always instance hummingbirds, or orchids, sunflowers and beautiful things. But I tend to think instead of a parasitic worm that is boring through the eye of a boy sitting on the bank of a river in West Africa, [a worm] that's going to make him blind. And [I ask them], 'Are you telling me that the God you believe in, who you also say is an all-merciful God, who cares for each one of us individually, are you saying that God created this worm that can live in no other way than in an innocent child's eyeball? Because that doesn't seem to me to coincide with a God who's full of mercy'

The truth is scary often times. Doesn't make the happy fairy tales more true.

Thanks again for your well-put words in the thread.

He might had stolen Wallace's popularity, but he's still worth of respect :)
GlendonMellow's avatar
I like to think he stole it inadvertently. And Wallace seems to be cropping up a fair bit in the press these days, so maybe it's changing.

Go Team Darwin!

Creationism is a bunch of BS.
CavyWolfe's avatar
AND it contradicts itself in the old/new testaments.
In the old, it says that god created all the creatures before creating man.
In the new, it says man came first.
eldictator's avatar
The whole book is a contradiction, The old testament is often ignored because it's full un-savoury things.
The scary thing is, most agnostics /atheists in my experience have a broader knowledge of the bible, instead of some rose tinted view taught at school that creationists have
CavyWolfe's avatar
Often , atheists and agnostics do, because some of us actually read the bible, instead of listening to the preachers view on it.
So sad when you see full-grown adults seeing the world that way.
