Comic-Con: Day 3
Saturday kicked off Day 3 of Comic-Con, and the crowds poured onto the convention floor to start the weekend in Geek Style.
At noon, deviantART hosted our final panel: How to Supercharge Your deviantART Profile Like the Masters. Moderated by none other than our fearless ninja, Angelo (aka spyed), we were honored to have the following superstars share their deviantART experiences with the crowd:
- Adam Warren (AdamWarren -- “The Dirty Pair,” “Empowered”)
- Mark Brooks (diablo2003, from Marvel Comics)
- Jim Zubkavich (Zubby -- Project Manager of Creative Services, Udon Entertainment)
- Dave Elliott (DeevElliott -- “Heavy Metal Magazine”)
- Wenqing Yan (yuumei, creator of “Knite,” “1000 W0RDS”)
- Kevin Eastman (Kevineastman -- co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
- Chris Sanders (alohalilo creator of “Lilo & Stitch”)

You May Say I'm An Artist...
I am haunted in this holiday season by the opening lines of Charles Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities, his novel about a society 250 years ago coming apart in its seemingly irreconcilable divisions. Could it be these lines define where we have come to find ourselves today?
“It was the best of times,
it was the worst of times,
in the age of wisdom,
it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief,
it was the epoch of incredulity,
it was the season of Light,
it was the season of Darkness,
it was the spring of hope,

Change is not something that we take lightly, because it affects our collective identity. It was important for us to define who we are and what we’re made of at our core before we changed anything. We all have our own understanding of what that means, but the process of getting that core story down on paper took almost a year.
The result is “Bleed and Breed Art.” This is our center of gravity and our reason for getting out of be

Burns one man's vendetta on fires of drunk delight while Heaven's rainbows burn and sparkle in the sky.
The fascinated coo while boredom freezes cold and watches while his breath fades steaming into night.
The pennies for the guy jingle in their tin while he a traitor burns, his Cath'lic soul in Hell.
The animals run scared, not from fireworks, but from th'unholy sound of Guido's punishment.
He screams a silent scream that no-one else can hear, save God and pets and Satan's wailing hordes.

Yes, this is technically my first art feature here. General HP fan art will be featured later...
I know I keep contradicting myself. I originally said I had no need for a dA journal (since I have a LiveJournal). But I think I've really wanted to do something like this for awhile. And given it's heavily art related... Some of these artists I feel produce stunning work yet go a bit under appreciated. Well, here is the place to appreciate them! New pieces will be featured at least weekly or monthly, it'll depend. If you'd like to be featured for anything (I'm not just going to limit to HP fan art, this is only the first) and I see your work is quality effort, all you need is ask.
Please comment to/ the original work.
The Modified 50 Mythical Creatures Challenge
I Still might be editing this thing further, in order to get it more... Well, creaturized. And besides, I love finding out about new beasties./EDIT
Since challenging myself with this, I've wanted to modify this list, and as I had a friend of mine to visit me for a week, we thought it through, removed some creatures/thingies from the list and added some more to replace them. So, here's the modified list.

Hello everybody, it's time for a contest again! :'D
With the release of my comic Crash 'n' Burn with Tokyopop in August, I thought the best way to grab people's attention is to throw a mega awesome contest out there, so here it is!
The task is pretty easy: Draw your OC (one or more) interacting with one or more Crash 'n' Burn members!
Your OC can be a fan, a roadie, a rival, a friend, or just meet them somewhere by chance, you can think up any scenario you like~ The world/location is up to you, though the CnB crew live in our world, in our time. All mediums are allowed. Have fun!

Robert Rodriguez Presents Project Green Screen
Robert shot an action-packed short film called Two Scoops, starring twins Lola and Lucia who operate an ice cream truck by day and happen to also be monster-slayers. Fans contributed to the project by submitting films, Tweeting their ideas for super-weapons, creating the fiercest monsters, and sending in their photos to appear on Missing Person posters.
We're excited to announce that the collaboration is now complete! You can see the finished film right here, along with the best contributions from fans, and documentary footage to tell the story of the project.
Canvas sizes - inches and dpi and pixels
This is a sort of guide on canvas sizes, inches, dpi and pixel x pixels.
when it came to canvas sizes, I always kind of assumed that inches belonged with dpi and pixels were just pixels and that everyone knew that; but i read a whole bunch of comments on a tumblr blog where someone asked about canvas sizes, and SO MANY people were replying with things such as, "4000x4000 px at 300 dpi" or "2000x2000 px at 200dpi".
and I guess not everyone quite understands what dpi's really used for xD.
DPI = Dots per Inch. It means how many dots will be printed per inch.
DPI is actually used for printing purposes. It shows the printer how much pixels to print per inch, literally. A common printer (at home or even at a lot of printing stores) at best prints at 150dpi most of the time actually; there are some super duper great printers that can print REALLY fine that can go up to ...apparently a lot more xD; #dpi, so that's why everyone usually suggests saving your project at 300dpi; most printers are f
The New Street Photographer's Manifesto
February 7, 2013/by techgnotic
Street photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson called it the “decisive moment”— the captured instant when all the photograph’s elements come together to tell a story in a way a text narrative of thousands of words could never begin to. It is what hooks people, both practitioners and advocate-devotees, on the art form. It is uniquely completely immersive in life— step out into the streets— in which the moment of artistic epiphany can never be guessed at until it suddenly happens. When it is properly mastered, it is as pure as the dawn of each new day, as true as the living organism of a teeming street scene catching a breath as one.
It's no easy task to pull a book together for publication and "The New Street Ph

For those of you that have participated, I thank you and ask you to make the last two days really count and reach out to your friends and families for those last minute donations.
For the rest of you, I am making this final push on behalf of all of the deviantART Sta.sh teams to request that you reach into your pockets and make a donation, regardless of how big or small, to the Movember effort. When in contemplation of the eternal wellspring that is the deviantART project and how it has become the engine keeping my heart and mind on a full burn as I strive to be an upstanding member of the community as well as a helpful architect and eager participant in the conversation -- my thoughts inevitably settle upon my attempts to define my concept of Gratitude.

'I want to be a better artist.'
This is a sentiment I hear often on dA. It's usually followed by a question regarding how one should go ABOUT becoming a better artist.
I've no doubt made journals like this in the past, but here's another one. This page was in dire need of an update, either way. : )
I could probably talk your ear off for a mile and a half about why I should be the last person you ask for creativity-boosting advice. Aaaand I have my reasons for this, but that's not really what anyone who writes me wants to hear, I think. It's just a fair warning. I'm not an accredited teacher, I was far from the most capable person at my college, I've made a metric crapton of mistakes, and I am nowhere near where I'd like to be in my own personal artistic endeavors. If that doesn't bother you, well, keep on reading!
The best way I could aid anyone interested in bettering themselves would probably be by giving you the advice that inspires me the most. Stuff I've heard from frie
Opening the Darkest Door
I have recently come across a most disturbing phenomenon in my studies of the Diabolic Infestation of the Soul. It seems there is a most frightening psychological conundrum when considering the concept of demonic possession even the most remote possibility of reality upon our earthly plane is the notion that just believing it may be true could very likely be the spark needed for the Demon to discover, seek out, and ultimately inhabit its next vessel of evil: You.

Dante's Inferno, What's the Worst that Can Happen?
Oct 17, 2012 by techgnotic
Sometimes in youth we play crazy mind games. One gruesome game was trying to think of the worst way to die. Or even better, the "which would you choose" version of the same conceit. Another was what would be the worst torture to endure. If there is one international touchstone that best captures youthful fears and wonders in speculation of what lies beyond the veil of death and awaits as possible punishment for our sins, it must be - to the few who have actually read it to the millions who "know" it – "Dante's Inferno." Who does not shiver at the thought of being lost somewhere in the "Nine Rings of Hell?"
Witch Sorceress Enchantress
The Witchas Multifaceted Icon
Throughout history artists of every discipline have been fascinated, inspired and transfixed at every historical stage of the shifting perceptions of the “Witch” in any given time or society. The seams within every page of every chapter written against or in defense of the witch have been alternatively filled with oppressive sexism, blind eyed religious bigotry, occult doctrine, fevered and forbidden lustful sexuality, misplaced fear, and reams of wide eyed superstition.
Consequently, the colors, and lines within every stroke upon every canvas and visceral depiction, carry all the burdensome weight of the long intricacies of this subject. With respect to this much maligned, religiously and politically repurposed, perpetually misunderstood subjec
