Hey folks! I know I've been quiet for ages, but I've had a lot going on in my life.

That said, I'll be at Otakon 2018 this coming weekend of August 10-12! I'll be at booth G09 in the Artist Alley! If you'll be there, stop by and say hi!

Otakon by Ginkage
It's been ages since I posted a journal and barely as much since I posted anything at all.

Between the death of my father at the beginning of 2017, the hell of moving myself in with friends while my mother and I bought a house, then the hell of moving her from DC to my area kinda wore on me. Then I got really sick in December, turned out to be cancer, and resulted in my having surgery on the 29th of January this year. I'm clean now, but I have a crapload of bills to pay from some of it. Plus I can't work for another three weeks or so, barely can handle driving yet (abdominal surgery, whee), and get tired really easily so posting and maintaining have been far back on my mind.

Just figured I'd post an update.

I'm crowdfunding some of my medical expenses so if you're the sort that's inclined to help, I appreciate it. Check out Help With Medical Debt - GoFundMe Link for more info.

Until later, taters.

All rightie, it's that time again! I'm getting prepped to attend Katsucon for another year!

Irodama Chainmaille & Bead Jewelry will be at table H12 in the Artist Alley! If you're going to be there, stop by and say hi!
Honestly, if anyone out there wants to commission something chainmaille-y or even randomly buy something out of any of my store fronts, it'd really help me get through the next week until payday.

So... I'm taking a chance and trying out Patreon to help fund some of the jewelry work that I do. No sob stories, no guilt, just offering inclined folks a chance to help in a long-term way.

There are reward levels, but no one is under a compulsion to donate for any of them. Please, if you feel inclined, check out the link below.

UPDATE: Goal extended!!!! Just a few more donations and I will be able to breathe easily at this convention! This is going to be my last Otakon until the convention moves to Washington, DC in a few years. This and Katsucon are the only chances I really get right now to show my work outside of my area!

So, this year I'm going to be in the Artist Alley at Otakon! Booth U-13, all the way in the back near the restrooms and facing the Art Show! Should be fun!

For the past month or so, I've been running a small fundraiser to help with the cost of my hotel this year. I'm branching out for several reasons and trying to stay closer to the convention center this year. I'm almost to my second goal and could really use a bit of a push! If I make it to my current goal, I'm going to stretch it just a smidge farther to try and account for food costs. For those who may not know, I'm diabetic and it sometimes makes finding suitable food a bit harder as I can't (well, shouldn't) really just walk over to McD's and get a burger. So, there you have it.

I really appreciate those who have helped so far. I would have had no problems handling it this year but a new job kinda fell through and my current is not making it for me. I almost wasn't going to try this again this time but these conventions are really the only times in the year I really get a chance to sell my jewelry.

Okay, enough rambling. Thanks for reading. :)

I joined dA about 11 years ago, some random time in 2003. It was a year of a lot of upheaval in my life. Changing circumstances, changing living arrangements, and a still-growing skill in pixel dolling.

I came to dA because I was disenchanted with another art site and its limiting rules on what was postable per their theme. I didn't like being limited. So when a friend mentioned deviantArt I figured that it sure couldn't hurt to try it out. Been here ever since. I don't post much a lot of the time and my art has slipped into a mix between 2D art and my chainmaille/jewelry... but I like it here.

Here's one of the first things I ever posted here. I wish I had some of my older art to share from before that... but paper copies are so flimsy as one knows.

Welcome to my recent watchers!

I may not have a lot to say sometimes and I might go a while between deviations, but I do hope you enjoy what you see!
I entered one of my recent pieces, Granny Weatherwax's Wonder, into the Featured Product Contest over at Blue Buddha Boutique. It was a whim! I wasn't expecting anything since I was getting it in at the last moment.

I got selected as a finalist! I invite folks to check it out and cast a vote for the piece that strikes your fancy. :)

My piece is this one:
Katsucon was fun. Exhausting and graced with at times painful weather, but fun! I made a decent amount of sales in the end.

Just closed my fund drive, managing to raise $625 out of $2000. As I see things it's more than I had when I started so I can't complain. Besides, someone got a free commission out of it so they win in the end. :)
I went to go check the forum to make sure I had all the right bases so I could continue the base race.... and the site just sticks at an info page.

Anyone know what happened?
Just wondering if I'm just too old for pixel art. I have ideas, but they take forever to bring from concept to reality... and I don't really have someone immediately in my life who I can share them with. I used to co-habitate with my best friend and we'd bounce stuff off of each other. Even if the rest of the dolling world didn't care, I had someone else who did within arm's reach.

Now... I just have my own brain and I don't feel like I'm good enough anymore. Maybe it's time to step back from it and put my energy into my jewelry.

Or maybe I just think too much.
Got power back about noonish on Tuesday. Bleah. That is almost the longest I've been without power since winter of 2003 (lost power for the better part of a week, then).

Lost just about everything in the fridge and our stand-up freezer. About $200 of foodstuffs of varying natures. We saved some of the meat we'd bought in the shopping trip before the storm (guh) but not all. Dad's on Social Security and I'm lucky if I pull $250 in two weeks so it's going to be very tight until the end of the month while we make things work on my paychecks so bills can get paid. Some may not be paid this month.

I still am up for commissionson chain maille if anyone is interested. I'll even make very, very simple patterns for $5-$10. You can note me to get examples of what 'simple' is if you're inclined. I could really use the money right now.
Yeah.... I have no power rigbt now. As I write this I am sitting in my car during a thunderstorm because it's too damn hot in my house and I'm leaching internet off of someone that does have power. Sucks.
The contest I entered my most recent chain maille piece in is finally in the voting stage! :)

I welcome anyone interested to pop over, take a look at the entries, and submit a vote for the piece they feel is most deserving (No, that does not mean you HAVE to vote for mine, I'm not that selfish.)

Site Revamping

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 4, 2012, 12:22 PM

So. For various and sundry reasons, I'm looking at taking down Soulshadow Designs, weeding things out, and reopening it with all my own work. I don't really have much... my site partner was the more prolific doller.

Then again, I could just weed through all of my more favored dolls, slap them up on dA, and leave it.

I'm torn... mostly because SSD has been up since 2000-2001. A lot of history to consider ending.

That and I've got 1 week left on my sub and kinda blah about trying to extend it. Money's just not there and I've had no time to make anything for my Etsy shop that no one's really frequenting.

Jewelry Commissions

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 16, 2012, 8:14 PM

Still taking these. I can't quote a specific price for anything because it depends on what materials and pattern are wanted. My plate is blissfully empty right now and I kinda need to raise the funds for a new video card for my computer.

Patterns, materials, and some prices are available on my website: tamakage.net/irodama
Already-made pieces available at: irodama.etsy.com

I'm taking a big leap this year and trying my hand at selling my jewelry at Katsucon in National Harbor the weekend of the 17th to the 19th.

Here's a map of the AA for anyone attending. I'll be next to my great friend and wonderful artist :iconnightambre: so come and see us both!
