Gilad's Journal

Hi guys, Two weeks ago I did a poll to check if an idea of making a DA art book/album is something that can be accepted and liked. The Poll
70% liked it and wanted in. 30% thought of a problem with making it happen. I read the comments and different problems and some of that show real issues I have to address. OK.. so what is the idea

General idea
The internet provide an easy access for users and watchers to see art in the community. However, looking at art over the computer screen don;t do it justice. We tend to give it short look (check out the poll I did on how much time you spend on a photograph - gilad.deviantart.com/journal/p…). You see a lot of work that is not really art, but more of a personal works, you see stolen work (that you don't know it's stolen). Basically - the big print format (20*30 cm) allows you to have better impact and really provide depth to your work.
We can produce yearly DA album with the best pieces of each DA category (say 5 pieces of each category) since there are over a hundred categories it will be very varied in art and point of view. We can even do different volumes for Photography and painting, and digital art since they are very different in target audience.

How to choose pieces?
What was mentioned in my poll as a possible problem, and was also agreed by voters (15%) is that it's hard to choose pieces without offending users. I think that an art treasurer should be appointed, as an editor to the book (very common to use one for art projects), or even a few art treasurers for the basic categories, and he will pick the pieces. He will give an outside look and choose based on his artistic point of view. This will be objective and provide high quality picks.

Budget?
I don't know yet. It could be a community project. Each user that places work in the album pays a relative founding (and earnings later). It can also be founded by an investor, that can also do a big exhibition to follow the book. It can also be DA site founding it to brake the WWW boundaries and acclaim it's place in art by targeting new audience. It shouldn't be too expensive thinking about the huge amount of users pulling in. It can also be lucrative thinking of how many people will be interested in it (just start with our family and friends - my poll on "family and friends support" gilad.deviantart.com/journal/p…).

So, what's up?
I don't think I can do this myself. I'm a little busy to take a project like this.
I will gladly support who ever goes forward and do it. I believe in this idea as a stage for all the wonderful artists in this community getting real recognition in the art world (and making a bit of money while doing it). DA site will get a lot of publicity and the community will win a gain, maybe even big (known) artists that will want to join and be in the next books. I say - let's give power to the community. Who wants to be a part of it? In other words - how can you help?

Now, I invite you to take a look with me, at 10 of my favorites Under my weekly spotlight

Very emotional. The poverty is always out there but we hide from it by not looking.
This one makes you look. This can be you. How do you feel about it now?

That's a great example of a photographic eye.
The pattern, the perspective and leading of the eye.
That's taking an everyday surrounding, and making it into art.

The Moth Beats Itself To Death by moejo

A great example of how a "not so perfect" photograph becomes perfect, just because it's art. Am I making myself clear? Maybe not, but art is waht you feel, and I felt this one.
