Wise as a Serpent: WiP Ink

   The hard lined ink of Slice Three: Wise as a Serpent. Out of the four images that comprise the set, this one has given me fits from start until...well, now. And probably because of that, it is my favorite of the four. The hair was an absolute joy to brush; from the rounded bangs in front to the abstract chaos as it goes back. There is a lot of dry brushing going over the entire composition. The only pencil lines remaining are the ones which contour the face, and those will be softened either by the ink wash, or color, as the case may be to give dimension to the portrait. 
   I'm still undecided about which sections will be monochromatic ink wash and which will receive full color, but I am leaning towards making the background a solid color, but a bright one (!), which would contrast really nicely if she was rendered with the ink wash.

   As always, I'll have to stew on that one awhile, as the process is mostly organic and I usually know it when I get there. And...how this piece fits into my "artist's statement," I'll let you know when the color version of this goes up!
