As is so often the case (mainly because of the time spent), these images develop a backstory as they are being worked on. "Blue Sky" was no exception. However, all stories are not bright, nor do they all end happily.

As I mentioned on the deviation "Blue Sky: Finished Ink"  fav.me/d9ryp3o the 10 short stories in the book are already set, and although this image isn't technically part of the project I'm working on, per se, it could easily fit within the parameters in a "gallery" of some sort, as it does pertain to content of "Jade Frost, Tales from the Industrial Silk Road."

Besides my comments on the line art, I love your choice of color, too! I have always had a hard time making these kind of color swatches work for my own art.
 it!

Thanks, Major! One thing I tried to do with this was to have some of the color work against the other, like the green and blue tints along side the reddish-brown of the rusted metal. It was a lot of fun experimenting with different combinations and see how they reacted to each other! Keep up the fine work. :D

I can imagine. What type of ink do you use? It's been a long time since I tried something like this. I can remember my ink running when applying watercolours on top.

I've been using Higgins Black Magic for a long time, but any "water proof" ink will do. Another thing I do to help thicken the ink, is during the creative phase of doing the actual ink work, in between drawing hours I will just lay the cap loosely on the bottle instead of screwing the cap on the top of the bottle. This allows a tiny bit of air in, and the ink gets thicker. Experiment and have fun with the ink. It just depends on what one is trying to do with it!

Thanks, Nick! I'm been trying to simplify over the years, but so far, it hasn't worked out, lol! :D

In every piece of work done by an artist who works with a recognizable level of seriousness and dedication, there can be found a singular technical challenge, which often lies at the heart of the reason the piece was executed in the first place. Many artists find at least a part of the personal satisfaction they feel in completing a new piece in the successful negotiation of said challenge.

It is easy to identify the challenge in this piece.

Nicely handled, by the way.

The first word out of my mouth was a slang...followed he just never stops with the thought of creating great work!! Wonderful piece. Once again, I love equally your black and white ink work and your colored version.

As always, you are being very kind! I do wish I was a little faster, though, but the medium drives the speed...Right now I'm working on some architectural studies while I plan another color piece. Hopefully, this year I'll have a "proper" studio so I can do some oils again! :D

Ahhh I find the work i "crank" out fast lacks a certain quality, thus, I appreciate the time you take with your medium. I understand the desire for a proper studio considering where I create my work. I hope you get that studio.

Thanks, Fred. The challenge for this piece was trying to keep it monochromatic, and still include some variant color, such as the different shades of green. All in all, a great learning experience! :D
