With dawn’s light breaking, the twin moons began to fade over the lone cowgirl and her obsolete robotic steed. Jessie had been traveling for days now, and was running low on supplies.
Her long, dark hair trailed behind her battered, wide-brimmed hat as she rode her robot horse across the plains. The robotic steed, “Piston,” was running low on power - even the solar reserves were fading. Piston’s mostly faded paint was laid across metal that was showing signs of pitting from rust - despite Jessie’s best efforts to maintain him.
To stop would be asking for trouble. Normally she was more cautious, but she was “on the trail,” as she called it. She squinted into the distance and saw something, quickly pulling back on the reins as the mechanical horse whirred and slowed to a halt.
"Look, Piston." She whispered to the horse, patting its chrome neck. "Town up ahead.”
