Sammy Cat realism practise by GhostLiger Sammy Cat realism practise by GhostLiger
If you didn't already know, I'm trying to stretch out into realism a bit.

I've had this photo tacked to my wall for a while now and thought I'd try a study of it.

In case anyone's curious, this is the cat my parents had at the time I was born. His name was Sammy :D

Sketch belongs to me, photograph taken by my Mum.

Kitty chan....:kitty: My cat woke me up yesterday by crawling under the covers with me...and then clawing my stomach and my face until I woke up.

Rofl! Neko-chan! I had a similar experience with Nikita a while back when Tiggers got the bedroom door open and Nikita got up onto the window sill. Partway through the night se jumped down again, right onto me!

Very good! I’m really drawn to the eyes; they seem to defiantly have a cat’s expression in them.

But maybe here's a pointer: on the tail's fur, maybe next time try drawing the hair as strands instead of just pencil shading and varying the intensity of the pencil stroke, so you won't have those noticable 'lines' where you shaded sections. I noticed that that kind of helps when drawing animals with alot of fur detail...

That's a good point! I've also been advised to get a 6b, 4b and 2b drawing pencils, so I'll keep that technique in mind for the next time I draw a furry picture.

Thanks :D

Yeah, the B pencils are better for shading, that's for sure, but an F is good for light line work and outlines b/c its somewhere between a B and an H (Bs are softer lead and Hs are harder lead)
It's kind of funny, I just got assigned a value shading in realism project in my art class today ^-^

Hmm, I've never heard of an F, but we have HBs which are also between the two.

Lol, talk about coincidence!

Holy cow. That's very impressive.
I'm a bit worried about the size of the nose, though...it looks a bit big to me. But the fur is very nicely done.

Thanks :icongrin--plz:

Hmm, yeah I see your point... It's possible the eyes could be a little too far apart.
I thought when I got to the fur that I'd made a mistake starting off trying to draw a furry creature. Had a few issues trying to get the fur on the left side to look right ^^;
