Come half past seven, the twilight that had lingered over London had begun to recede in the face of night, as it crept from the eastern sky, and the world beneath pulsed with a new kind of life...
Basil Turpin as always, had not paid attention to the elements of the game, and was far more committed to the game of the silk. He had to finish a dress for tomorrow, but the clock contradicted him, slamming in his face, or rather in his ear that it was already long passed eight.
Turpin sighed annoyed, cursing softly.
He could just eat at the pub next door, and then run home... and tomorrow morning Alfred would eventually finish up. Yes, that dirty little, lazy helper could finish the job ... and he could enjoy a dinner and a glass of gin... and maybe he was not all that eager to go home ... maybe stopping to say hello to little Be
