Samhain by getupp Samhain by getupp
I'm really interested in pagan (or Gaelic) festivals, so I decided to draw all the seasonal festivals of the "year-wheel" as illustrations with some main features.
Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the darker half of the year. It's celebrated from the sunset on 31 October to the sunset on 1 November. They believed that the veil between our world and the Otherworld is very wispy so the spirits and fairies can come easily to our world. Samhain and All Hallow's Eve merged to create the modern Halloween.
On my drawing you can see an old woman who is calling to the Otherworld through the Gate. Next to the old woman there is a cauldron with fire, a pumpkin (Jack O' Lantern) and a raven. The Moon is shining at that misty night.

I did this with watercolor, colored pencils and felt-tip pen.
