The task of his Contest was to create a character for one of his stories. This character is for his story "Rising Beyond".

Gråstannar (yeah, the title cannot display the letter å :o (Eek)

) is a deadly serious Airendrage who lives secluded near the Frontier. He is one of the dragons who unfortunately had contact with the Slayers as a young adult and lost acquaintances and his love to them. Since then he has developed an overwhelming hatred for the Slayers and is also generally not well disposed towards humans. He joined the Hetiil standard army relatively directly to get basic training in combat and to be able to stand up to the Slayers as well as possible. As the son of a strong Airendrage, he showed great talent in combat and over time became a commander.

Several years later, he was ordered to his first battle as a commander near the Frontier on direct orders from the royal house. There, he did very well. The battle against unnamed opponents was as good as won when he received word from a scout who saw humans camping nearby, apparently Slayers, as the scout concluded from an eavesdropped conversation. Gråstannar had almost forgotten his anger towards these humans over the years, but when he heard of their words, he was reminded of his slaughtered acquaintances and his love. The anger came back and he took some of the best fighters and left the rest of his subordinates to a representative at the Frontier. He ignored the advice of his best friend and advisor, who suggested that he should carry out the king's orders and not chase after private battles and endanger his subordinates. He was aware that retreating from the battlefield meant disobeying the king's order, but if he did not seize the opportunity to take revenge now, when would he? So he launched a surprise attack on the Slayers, who, unfortunately, were not quite so surprised. They were told by sources that warriors of the Hetiil army were marching to the Frontier and so were prepared to kill some dragons. Thus they were heavily armed, too heavily armed and with more men than it seemed for the scout. Gråstannar's fighters as well as he himself were able to beat some Slayers, but in his blind rage he did not realize that the fight was hopeless. His fighters were beaten, he himself only barely escaped with his life (he should have fallen off a cliff or something similar, otherwise he would have fought to the death). The defeat he suffered, as well as his refusal to obey orders, caused him to be thrown out of the army. (If harsher punishments would normally have to follow, I would have the idea that he stayed away from the army and the city of the Enkuvv on the advice of his advisor-friend, and his advisor would have spread the word of his death by the fight with the Slayers. I think that's almost better. xD)

Now, as mentioned, he lives near the Frontier. According to the last words of his love, who died in his arms, he does not give in to the suffered defeat and still takes action against Slayers. Which were: "Keep on going!" (Or anything like that he should not give up ;) (Wink)

Briefly about the design: the scars he wears are from his defeat against the Slayers. And he can fight best with axes.

Then about the name which is a mix of three different viking names:

Grå – is from Harald Greycloak (Gråfell) a king of Norway, which I took because of the Harald in the name meaning military leader.

Stan – is from Guthrum, a former King of East Anglia, who ruled under his baptismal name Æthelstan, which I took because of Guthrum meaning battle snake.

Nar – is from the name Einar, simply meaning „who fights alone“.
