Red Leopard by gescheitert Red Leopard by gescheitert
a.k.a. a small exercise in patience

It was my first try using red clay instead of my usual white. It's a bit better for making things that need stability, such as animals standing on four legs. I'm fond of this leopard because on the day I sculpted it, I was alone with the atelier's owner since nobody else had time, when usually there are 5-10 other artists there. We had a really nice talk and it was very cozy.

You can sort of tell from the spot pattern that this is supposed to be a leopard, although the proportions turned out a bit weird. Before I painted the spots, it actually looked quite lion-ish. I'm not at all sure about big cats, but at least it's pretty cute!

This will be sent to a friend. I hope he doesn't see this post before I get around to doing it, and I hope that tail won't break off during its journey!

Red clay with white, black and a tiny bit yellow matte glaze
Sculpting time: 2 hours
Glazing time: 2 hours
Length nose to tailtip: 25 cm
Height to eartips: 11.5 cm
