Es lebe das heilige Deutschland!

German history

♔The rise of a nation in the heart of Europe♔

Hi dear visitors,

we welcome you to our German-History Group, a group for everyone all over the world who is interested in the over-2000-year-old history of Germany, its culture and influence.

If you join us, you can submit anything related to Germany and the germanic tribes. Maybe you´re a fan of old-germanic culture, the Teutonic Knights, of Martin Luther, the 30-years war, Friedrich the Great, the napoleonic wars, the rise of Prussia and Austria, the patriotic movement of the 19th century, the German Empire, the world wars or modern Germany.
We have also space for poetry, alternate history, maps, symbols, comics, mangas, countryballs and much more.

If you have any questions, you can ask me or any of our great history-interested members. You can even suggest topics for journals or informations you want to share!

We all know the dark past with the 3rd Reich and what happened in this time. As a German I have to say some words about it. No one here denies any crimes, and I don´t allow any hate art, but the 3rd Reich is also part of our history and I will not forbid pictures of that time, except if they are clearly hate-art. If you don´t agree, send me a private message and I will check any controversial picture of course.

And now enjoy our small community

friendly regards

The ways of the Germans, a short compilation of the german history:

What is Germany and who are the Germans?

This is a really complicated question, but I will try to answer it.

Germany was for a long time a politically not united nation, it was mostly split in many greater and smaller states, which emerged from the old germanic tribes of the Saxons, Bavarians, Franks, Swabians, Thuringians and Frisians.

During the middle ages the "Holy Roman Empire" was founded in 962 AD, the german emperors felt as the heirs of the old Roman Empire. When the italian states were lost it was named "holy roman empire of german nation".

This empire lasted until 1806, when Napoleon's success forced the last Kaiser Franz II of Austria, a member of the Habsburg family that ruled the german states for nearly 500 years, to abolish the Reich.

After Napoleon was defeated in 1815, the German Federation has been created, and patriotic movements forced the kings and princes to think about an united German fatherland. This nation shall stretch all over the German language and culture area from South Tyrol to Schleswig and from Alsace to East Prussia.

It took until 1871, when Otto von Bismarck helped Preußen (Prussia) uniting most of the german states after three short wars against Denmark, Austria and France.
The German Empire was born and Wilhelm I king of Prussia, became the new Kaiser (Emperor) of Germany. The German Empire (or Kaiserreich) is famous for brilliant scientists, inventions, advanced culture and a strong military.

But the German Empire ended after the awful first world war, a war caused by the nationalism and arrogance of every european empire or nation. The treaty of Versailles threw the young german republic after 1918 into such a deadly crisis, that radical political powers could rise, like the Communists and the Nazis.

In 1933, Hitler founded the 3rd Reich. The people trusted him, because he wanted to reverse the Versailles dictate, get back the lost territories, unite Austria with Germany and give the people food and jobs. He showed his real face in 1939 and killed millions of people in the worst war Europe has ever seen. After the war in 1945, Germany was bombed down, split in two and ruined.

But it was not the end of Germany. The Germans didn´t give up and with financial help in the west from the USA it could rise again as a new republic, that united with the communist part in 1990, and now dominates the EU economically.

That´s a very short overview, of the German history. So what and who can we call german and Germans?

The german patriots who never had a political united nation before said:
Germany is, where the german language and culture exists. This contains today all regions and people from Südtirol (South Tyrol) in the Alps to the North Sea and all people from the Rhine to the Oder river.

It´s often controversial with Austria, but Austrians are not an own ethnicity. They have the austrian nationality, but they are ethnical Germans living in their own state. The same works for Swiss-Germans, Luxembourger, Liechtensteiner, Germans in Belgium and the people in Alsace and Eastern Lorraine.

The dutch left the Empire in 1648 and followed their own historical path and not the high german language standardization, so they can´t be considered to be part of the german ethnicity at the moment.

Das Lied der Deutschen - The song of the Germans

This is the song of the Germans, made in 1841 by Hoffmann von Fallersleben. Today only the 3rd part of it is used as the national anthem of Germany. The part "Deutschland über Alles = Germany above everything", doesn´t mean, that Germany is better than other nations, but von Fallersleben meant, that an united fatherland is above any other political goals in the world.…

Hi there!
As I concentrate mainly on Youtube, I wasn't very active on DA. But it would be a shame if this German history group dies, because no one accepts the submissions. Is there someone willing to be an active admin here? If so, sent me a private note please. Thanks!

I'm not sure if soliciting is permitted here, but two weeks ago, I made a new group, WildHunterWorld.
What does anyone here think of the group's concept?

aww thats too bad, I had some nice items that would have been interesting for the group, as I have a nice collection of german ocean liner items, including a small bottle from the 1920s - 1930s from a german ocean liner and its still sealed, also postcards too and such, other wise i'd submit them if allowed

Hello everybody, my name is mateo and i'm from bolivia, i grew up in a military family and since i'm a toddler i saw in the Bolivian Army Military School the cadets wearing pickelhaubes and prussian dress uniforms.
Now, since i was 15 i started to investigate about Bolivian Military history and thanks to my uncle who is a military historian he told me that in 1911 the prussian General Hans Kundt arrived to La Paz City and Bolivia started to adopt and take prussian military dress and campaign uniforms.
Bolivia is the 2nd prussianized army in south america, the 1st one is Chile, We wear feldgrau, Stahlhelms and pickelhaubes, the traditional parade march of Bolivian Cadets is Alexander Marsch (Chilean cadets is Radetzky), we have soldatenlieder like Wenn Die Soldaten (Cuando los soldados marchan por las calles) or Ich hatt einen kameraden (Yo tenia un camarada).
i'd like to be part of this group, share history from my country and yours and design Neo-Prussian uniforms for the bolivian army with the tools you use.
greetings from here to all of you.
