Dark High Contrast Theme For Windows 10 by Generation-Blue Dark High Contrast Theme For Windows 10 by Generation-Blue
This is my best attempt at creating a dark high contrast theme that doesn't look like total garbage with white boxes everywhere. I was able to accomplish a pretty good look i think and i'm happy with the results.

No external or 3rd party programs required, its just a high contrast theme so double click and you're good to go!

If you'd like to modify this theme simply paste this code into any windows explorer address bar and hit enter to view the full customization options:

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,Advanced,@advanced

Good luck!

Just wondering whether the new Windows 10 RS5 Build 17733  - Finalized Dark Theme will allow you to mix this theme with it to allow for some more transparency that the high contrast themes don't allow, that's the only thing I miss with this beautiful theme?

PS. It's downloadable from here immediately if anybody's interested.…

Great theme but how did you change the window border & title bar to black? I'm not a big fan of that part as now I can't even see where the edges of my windows are.

Have been using high contrast but the border and title bar for active windows is horrible bright cyan and the inactive is dark navy blue which is hard to distinguish on a black background

Does not work for me, it just open File Explorer on Libraries view, I just made a copy-paste of the command (Windows 10 Creators Update 1703)

EDIT: Didn't see the file to download ^^;
Works perfectly, thanks!

very good work! It also works with 1703, as the only one of all i´ve tried. in all other themes, the explorer background stays white.

But may you help me with 2 things?

1. i like to have no white squares around the icons in taskbar. it should stay black.
This https:// may changed to
this: https://

and 2. i like to have the progress bar and the highlighted file something like this https://

Can i edit your theme file with NPP? If so, what has to be changed?

Many thanks in advance !
Yeah so the bad part about high contrast themes is that windows ties many different UI elements to the same color. So you can change the taskbar boxes from white to black, but then this also changes the text color in many other explorer windows to black, so you have to make a lot of compromises with it to make it look good but also usable. This is why all contrast themes seem to have white boxes everywhere, its just a limitation of the theme.

You can try to change it yourself, its super easy. Just paste this code into any explorer window:

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl,Advanced,@advanced

Sublime, Thanks a lot. This is, by far, the best way to turn Windows 10 in dark theme.

Thank you so much!, especially the secret custom color path bit. :)
I really want to edit the color theme but too old and too tired of patching my system. This is simple yet (nearly) perfect solution!
Really hope one day us Windows users will be able to use customize theme as easy and seamlessly like those guys on Linux. :/

This is awesome. Thanks a ton. Although,
Is there any way to remove the boxes in the taskbar?
Thanks! Yeah, unfortunately a lot of the custom colors are tied together with different UI elements, making it difficult to change one area of the UI without inadvertently changing another. The boxes on the taskbar are one of them.

Oh, I found this in a google search. A bit annoyed that I had to reset my mouse cursor setting but that was an easy fix. Good job. I don't know how you did this or why Microsoft couldn't do this for us ha ha.
