Omg, I'm at the 200 page mark... :faint: I wonder how long it would have been if I never stopped working on it those three years... (during my fanart break)? ^^;

One out of the two pages for today...

This is going to be the last page where the half-Akira, half-mine style is. As you can see, it had started to change already, kinda ^^; (with the 4th panel of Bra...) Kiss the style good-bye! :blowkiss: :blowkiss: :blowkiss: :bow: :bow: lol Anyway, thank you for all of the people who supported me, and commented on my journal about my recent problems with the comic. I can fully understand why some of you prefer my 'middle style' (around chapters 3 & 4-ish XD), but I'm telling you, it's just *impossible* for me to go back to being that way if I want to have my own original style too. My brain just doesn't work that way where I can keep both styles going on at the same time. There WILL be some sort of merging, regardless of what I do. Drawing in Akira's style every once in a blue moon is okay. But, not almost everyday of doing it. Not even once every WEEK is okay.

Anyhow, I'm tired of talking about this, lol. It's okay if you don't like my style (and I know it takes some 'getting used to'); and I admit, it does need some polishing and adjusting on my part, but I can never polish or adjust it if I and stuck in a rut, trying to do two styles at the same time... it's not me...

If you still have a problem with it, then I don't mind you taking me off of your watch list, and discontinuing reading the comic. But, I'll just question why you watched me in the first place. :\

I'm not going to change for a random person. Not my style, not my personality, or anything like that. My style is me, and I am my style. I don't want to be known for knowing 'how to draw like Akira.' I want to draw like ME. Sure, this is a fanmanga of DBZ (well...more of GT, I guess ^^; ) but it's also a part of my world of DBZ--how I envision it. I'm sure I'm not seeing DBZ and his characters exactly how Akira woulda wanted/intended it to be, and I don't think anyone else can depict them exactly how he woulda liked either because WE ARE NOT AKIRA TORIYAMA! The same thing for style. Everyone draws it in a slightly different way. (Even if you are like *AnnouncerGuy, which is THE closest I've seen anybody doing Akira's style (which she does oh-so-lovealy :heart: ), there still could be some teeny weenie differences between how the two draw. Like, what order they draw things in, their techniques, etc.)

But, there is already a great artist who can draw just like Akira (besides himself XD)... I don't want to be the 'second one' XD I *know* I *could*, I know it's physically possible, but I don't want to be known for something like that. I'd rather be known for just having a good comic, rather than, 'hey you can draw just like Akira Toriyama!' That might be good news to some (and I can see why...) but just not for me. :\ I don't want to draw the best that Akira has done; I want to draw in the best way *I* can, which, by the way, is by NOT doing his style.

I am sorry, but I'm just really tired of talking about it. Hopefully, this will be the last time. If you have any honest critiques on my style, then they are *muchly* welcome!! (Like, how you guys talk about how I do my noses and lips, lol! :giggle: ) Let me repeat that in a different way: If you aren't just out to complain and make me feel bad about my style, if you are only trying to give honest feedback and critiques, then they are muchly welcome to me.

By the way... something extra... the way I do my style of characters is not to make them look like a particular race (as in black, white, hispanic, asian, etc.) It's actually the complete opposite. I don't want my characters to look like they are a particular race... because why? I don't think it matters, for one. Two, I like to take the 'best of both worlds' when drawing people. All races are beautiful in their own way. But, I like to take their features that I happen to find more beautiful and just well, put them together. :) I don't like how people always feel the need that others *must* be defined, ethnically.
In any case, are the people of DBZ really Japanese anyway? (At least the Saiyans?) Sure, they all speak the language, but I think that's just more for convience for the audience (and the artist) than anything else. It doesn't take *place* in Japan... just some weird... alternate world... ^^; Except for Chichi, which is just about the most Asian-looking EARTHLING main character on there, I don't know who else could be... :\ Unless you count Gohan and Goten, which would make them half-Asian (or whatever Chichi is XD) But, anyway, I'm just wondering if Akira thought it really mattered anyway. XD Uub speaks Japanese as well, so what the hell does that make him, huh? :confused: :rofl:

ANYWAY, I hope all of that is over. Please... just enjoy the comic, okay? :) :hug: Thank you again to everyone who helped me get through my issue(s). :hug: :smooch:

Bye-bye, half-Akira, half-mine style. :wave: :happycry:

Summary from my site: "This is my ooollllddd DBZ fanmanga that I began while I was still in high school... heck, when I was a *freshman* in high school (1999-2000 @_@). Looking back on it now, I realize how crappy it was, but at the same time, I realize what natural flowing of panels I used to have!! (lol) I still love it. ^_^ Maybe it's just because I drew and spent so many years on it? Or, that I still love DBZ... yeah, probably why. =P I'm sorry if my craptacular art in chapter one annoys you... it bothers the heck outta me, so I can understand, haha!
I hope you can still find something you like in it, anyway! ^__^"
From now on, these are pages from the present times... :)
Traditionally inked, with Digital screentones... the inking takes a lot longer than the screentones, so that's why it's still in the 'traditional' category. =P

AHHH... I wish I saw that before or I wouldn't have made that other comment..lol... I hadn't gotten to this page yet..tehe.... Now I feel like a dork. Oh well! You do what you do best. The style is a good one. It just needs some tweeking, as all styles ever and always do. I'm sure as I read the drawing WILL improve as I have seen already. I can't wait for the next parts.... You go girl *gives Japanses cliche' peace sign*

Wow...200. Grats!

And I like your original style too. It's nice to see something different, of course. (It's harder for me to tell the characters apart that way, but I'll get used to it, I'm sure.)

Sorry, this is my first time dropping in, so I don't know what the hell is going on here...

Boy, that was a lengthy description. One thing I'm not sure of: how is this comic's style 'half-Akira Toriyama'? I thought it'd take more than just the eyes to make it 'half-Akira', like lesser detail on the hair and/or the clothes. It's been a long time since I last read a DBZ manga, but besides the guy's eyes, there is really nothing else to compare with. If that's the standard for recognising works as 'half-someone who's already famous', there would actually be A LOT of imitators (read different shoujo mangas for example).

As far as I'm looking at, you're fine. Then again, it's all your own call...

^_^ thanks for taking the time to comment on this!

I think eyes are a very important, defining feature in a character...
And for me, So much of my emotion is put into the eyes, so that when I do Toriyama's eyes, which are highly stylized, there is not much room for me to express myself how I want to. Although there are many other elements to 'style' than just eyes (like, how I could say a gabillion things about Toriyama's inking/ shading, his body/ face structures and even down to the buildings). But... for Toriyama, his eyes are very distinctive. Before him, there wasn't really a kind of eye-style like it; so to emulate that, it's almost like taking half of that character's face away from them. To me, at least...

You right about the shoujo manga thing. I think that if the artist comes to that kind of style on their own terms then it's all right, and I won't consider them to be copying, but if they're making the big, Wataru Yoshizumi or Arina Tanemura eyes purposely, just so it'll "look like manga style" THEN I think it's the wrong thing to do, and yes, I would consider them to be copying.

Me, consciously emulating Toriyama's style is more than just in the details of clothes/hair and the change in the eyes. It's positions of their face, how it is structured from the very beginning of the drawing that is different. Those kinds of fundamental differences slowly change my unconscious, natural style, and THAT'S what I didn't like. But um, yeah...
lol, thank you for the thought to comment in the first place tho. :) :D I think this is comment is getting too long, loll

Doesn't matter if your comments are long, as long as it makes me comprehend to the extent that I won't misunderstand. That, and I'm the one who should thank you for taking the time to type all this down!

Indeed eyes are very important in depicting a character's emotion, especially if it's done through such a highly idealized way of drawing (read:cartoons!), but I never thought that it should be accounted that much as a criteria that defines one's style. Maybe there's still room for thoughts on that subject... which, I will wonder by myself from now on.

Oh, and I kinda disagree with your definition of 'talent', but who cares? Haha.

If you MUST know...

I think people are really born with it. It's more than just intuition. More like... miracle. Knowledge does further it, but it's like something you can come up with by yourself, even when you haven't seen anything like it or even learn it. Closest example I can think of right now is Masamune Shirow. I mean, he(or she... whoever the hell that person is...) never read any manga before he started making it! At least, that's what I read from some mags.

I believe this is the case because it's been MY intuition to LEARN everything I could muster about drawing, but I can no longer remember when I started and I'm still way behind the other kids who do fabulously better than anything I can dish out(you included!).

You might disagree, but people can have opinions, right? Wheee!

I LIKE YOUR STYLE MUCH BETTER!! To be honest, I never even knew the name of the artist for DBZ, but I kinda knew the style. But obviously, there are SO MANY DIFFERENCES between the two! I don't understand why people would say that you draw "just" like him :confused:

So anywho, congratulations on the 200 mark!! That is A LOT of drawing O__O I think my hand would have fallen off by now lol.

Beautifully drawn btw ^__^ 'Cept I kinda got confused which way I should read it ^^;

ehehe, yay 200! :w00t: :hug: thanks for liking the Bra XD :D (which just sounds plain weird, if someone had never seen Dbz/gt) XD um... for my backgrounds, if I dont ink/pencil them in myself, I use a mix of brushes *and* screentones, till it looks just the way I want it to, and have the same 'feeling' as the bg in my head. :D yes... I have backgrounds in my head XDD I got most of my tones from [link] and other random places (that I don't remember) XD You just have to kind of do a search for them (some are quite hard to find though). Also, unless it's just shadows, I rarely use just one type of tone for the bg... I sometimes overlay, take some of it away, and mix of the tones themselves before I even use the brushes. :D It's uh... a complicated process ^^; (nah, not really ^^; ) lol ^^; but practice makes perfect and you can't have a good ending without a beginning, so GET STARTED AND PRACTICE :D ^3^~ :hug:

Oh yeah...And thanks for pointing out that they are not in Japan! It pisses me off when people write as if the story takes place in Japan...unless they say it's an alternate universe. But, even though the DBZ series takes place on earth/chikyuu/whatever, it is not the world as we know it. I mean look at the way the years are marked as well. There was no such technology in the years that they are going by. Ummm...i'm gonna finish my rant now. ^^;

And, about Uub...He's just a bit confused. I mean, he was spawned from Majin Buu and came to live in his village. Later, he fused back together with Buu, and he became lighter skinned...almost pink-ish. I have no idea what the hell kind of race he is. XD!!! :rofl: :giggle:

rofl, I have no idea about Uub... ^^; he's a special case lol XD It's not everyday you get reincarnated from a pink demon thing :o (although I don't know what I am a reincarnation of, is any) ^^; ^^;

And, as for the Japan thing... yes, they still are on 'Earth' XD but it is very very different... not even really in a 'different time period' but yeah, an alternate universe of Earth, as you said. I've only heard a couple of people say something about it taking place in Japan...XD Well, I guess all of my stories, even my fantasy ones, all take place in America, since I'm the author and I'm American?
