The Forgotten Prison

Chapter One     I crawled through the ruins of Seilon, once a modest little hamlet at the southern tip of Rivet. The sweat of my brow attracted the ash that hung thick in the air; I tried hard not to think of what exactly was adhering to my flesh or floating into my lungs.     The sunken husk of an overturned cart barred my progress through the side alley. With the tip of my short bow, I carefully pried apart the bent and broken frame so that I might ease myself through. Taking only a handful of arrows with me, leaving the bulky quiver behind, I settled into my cozy shelter to

Firefly: "The Man Called Jody" Disclaimer:  If I weren't just a poor college student and could finance the series myself, I would, but I can't.  So all I can do is just play around in Joss Whedon's 'verse.  Also, I don't know a lick of Chinese so I haven't bothered to put the translations because they're probably horribly wrong.  If it were Japanese or Latin, well, that'd be another story... Episode twelve of my second season of Firefly: Jayne Cobb returns home to visit his mother and Mattie, but during his stay he encounters the toughest challenge he's ever faced. ------ The Brutus was a clean ship.  That was all her captain would repeat

OVER BLACK:  LETHE Where is heaven? EXT. The City - NIGHT We FADE IN on an ESTABLISHING SHOT of the City.  Even in the dead of night, it's bright and sparkling like the stars.  We INTER CUT with the various activities of people at night. EXT. THE ALLEY CONTINUOUS Finally, we settle on a dark alley that's seemingly abandoned.  We HEAR the steady footfalls of someone walking; it's like a heartbeat. From a rooftop, we see SOL in silhouette only walk into frame.  He casts a long shadow in the street, but we see him dressed in a long trenchcoat and fedora. ANGLE: From under a flickering streetlight we see Sol stop and exhale a cl

The Coming Storm- Prologue

Rain.  For the past three days there had been nothing but constant rain upon the city of Kyoto.  Water was not the only liquid that ran through the city streets, however.  For the past three nights, blood had also flowed freely, with the rain washing it away soon after like a heavenly purge.  Dignitaries and their escorts were the targets, though on one occassion innocent bystanders had been caught in the malestrom.  The average citizen was not gripped in fear like the politicians were because the Bakufu decided to keep quiet and with the rain, no one lingered at night anyway.  The government members in Kyoto though, unlike the average citize

The Coming Storm-Chapter 1

"You are running from the inevitable," announced Seisho Kojirou, who stood brazenly in the Kyoto street.  The three IshinShishi members slid to a halt before the towering presence of the samurai in the midst of a busy Kyoto street. "Seisho Kojirou!" the lead IshinShishi member shouted and unsheathed his sword.  "Captain of the new Zero Unit of the Shinsengumi."  The other IshinShishi members unsheathed their swords as well and took up stances in a back to back to back fashion a group of Shinsengumi members ran up behind them. "Do yourself the honorable thing and commit seppuku!" Kojirou ordered forcefully, grasping the sword at his side.  "

The Coming Storm-Chapter 3

Kagami Kyosuke and Seisho Kojirou managed to reach the village of Otsu in a day.  For Kojirou it was exhausting, but Kyosuke showed no signs of fatigue.  They had walked the whole day and night in silence and all the while Kyosuke didn't lose one step, or slump one shoulder.  Kojirou remained amazed at the boy's stamina, but assumed, falsely, he must be nearing his limit. The village of Otsu was nothing spectacular.  It was wide expanses of farm lands with farmers huts scattered out haphazardly.  The center was of course the area for trade and barter.  The markets and shops as well as the town hall and bar.  A simple establishment, but peace

I'm still writing, still trying to get *something* published, but at the same time I'm trying to keep myself busy as I try to get a job here in New York City (one that's not retail).  As you can see, there's a lot of trying going on in my life.  It's fine when things are going well, but seems to be twice as frustrating when things start to go bad.  Despite that, I'm pushing on and keeping myself busy. Close to the start of the year I've discovered the "Let's Play" community.  They don't do walkthroughs of video games per se, but rather record themselves playing a game while keeping up a live commentary.  Most of the time it's hilarious and I

So far I've received two rejections for my story.  I sent it to a total of five magazines this round.  The other three I'm not really expecting responses from in the near future, so this round has mostly been a wash. The rejections hurt, oh yeah.  There's no glossing over that.  They sting something fierce.  Still, this is what I want.  I'm focusing on other stories right now, trying my hand at a different genre.  Eventually I'll have to come back to the first story.  Maybe I'll try to tweak it a bit before sending it off again to other places.  I don't know. Ideally I would like to sidestep this whole thing.  I don't like writing short sto

Hello, all!  *echo, echo, echo* *ahem*  I'm sorry for all the dust.  Sorrier still for the neglect I've had for this place.  I hope to be back in a more active capacity. Life has changed much since my last post.  I got married and moved to New York.  Now that the wife and I are living together, I've been able to put more energy into my writing.  I completed my first ever NaNoWriMo (2010)!  I might post that up along with the short story I finished.  I need some feedback for stories, something I've missed most dearly since my fanfiction days. All in all, I hope everyone who still reads this page is doing well.  Not to exclude those who, lik
