I haven't written here in awhile. I'm back to working like crazy and not having much time to do anything else. Whenever I have time to be creative I'm focusing my efforts on gamedev but I haven't even had time to mess with that much at all this year. I post gamedev updates to Twitter at https://twitter.com/GeekdudeAndrew And gamefiles can be found at geekdude.itch.io/

Since I got fired I have been at home with my parents for awhile studying things such as pearl programing and design. I have touched up my resume and been trying to make a website andrewparker.info. I have a temporary page up there now but i'm working on a theme in jekyll that I am making from scratch. I don't have it quite right yet and I don't know If the design is going to give off the right impression. I had this cool idea to make a webpage that looks like you are at an old computer with the website on one side and a window looking outside on the other. But Idk if it looks professional enough to show to perspective bosses. It displays a lot of whimsy. For selling future games I may someday finish It could be perfect. about a month ago I hurt my arm and My car started having problems. since then I have been spending most of my time fixing my car myself. I figure since i'm between jobs right now I need to save money so I just fixed it myself. I swapped out the transmission and replaced the seals in the oil pump, which involved messing with the timing belt and dropping the oil pan. I also bent the window regulator back into place so I can properly roll up my windows. My arm has gotten better with time. My next order of business at this point is to try to find a job. I have a gamejam on oct 18th-the 21st I will probably come up with some sort of rough game demo on my itch.io page geekdude.itch.io but as for now I really shouldnt be spending time on my hobbies I need to work on things that will help me get a job and be more employable such as learning programing and design skills, getting IT certifications and filing out job applications.

Im working in a factory now. In what little free time I have I am attempting to make games with gamemaker. I have attended a couple of indie game dev conventions and gamejams and come up with some mostly complete demos over at geekdude.itch.io/ I keep doing pixelart of my friends on facebook but none of them want me to share online. Not that it isn't good. I also have a car progect that is waiting for warmer weather to finish and I am learning about python as one step in my plan to become a master coder and get a job where I can have flexible hours and log in over the internet so I can have extended working vacations where I just live in a town for like 6 months and get to know all the attractions and the townspeople, and then move on. or just spend my summers in Colorado and be able to come home anytime I want. In reality though idk if I can ever pull this off. In a perfect world I would have a part time job where I can learn more things that can help me get a better job in the future, but in reality i also struggle with ADD and find it hard to concentrate sometimes.

Hi everyone. Im out of a job again. I am burnt out on computer repair. I went back to MACC (my community college) to finish the half an associates in programing and/or networking that I had going on even though I already have an associates degree in graphic art. Its just most of the jobs I am looking at that require a graphic arts degree have to do with laying out a newspaper and I could really care less how a newspaper is layed out or what fonts are used etc. Im not very confident that getting a second associates is the best plan of action or even nessicary but thats where I am right now and its cheap. It really makes me feel kinda lame to be hanging out with new college kids again and to realize that at 32 I'm really kinda too old to be doing that. Most of my friends are graduated with bachelors or masters degrees and/or are married with kids and i'm still here 10 years later back to the same school. Its ok I was never going to be the one to have a straight path to victory anyways. I do feel like ive progressed in many areas since I left college and I guess thats all that matters.
Ive made it a priority to learn more about makeing games. its right below finishing my homework and getting my car progect back in one peice.  One day I want to be/work at an independant game makeing company, or at least make one really great game to be my own magnum opus. I have done some tutorials on haxefixel which I am finding is a lot easier to pick up then haxepunk. They are basically the same except the one has a bigger userbase and more doccumentation and tutorials.  I also picked up gamemaker from the humble bundle the other day and now Im going to have to start playing with that. It looks a lot easier to pick up. Yesterday I sat down to do some pixel art for one of my game ideas but I decided to do some filter art to get the creative juices going. a coupple hours later its 1:30 am and i need to go to bed. Also I have a job interview on monday with a photo company. So thats kind of exciting
