UFO Robot Grendizer No51

Dual Monster Monday here: about to do Fubi Fubi, the last Saucer Beast to make of this batch, which marks Ep.50 of the series and almost the halfway point, I will halt Grendizer for now to do more Kotetsu Jeeg Haniwa Phantoms from Eps. 21 to 30. Afterwards I'll return to more Grendizer Beasts: that batch will see the entry of the Vega Beasts which replaces the Saucer Beasts.

P.S.: I did have a lot of fun doing this one, fully done on Photoshop, and the ambience just hits the right spot.

Godo Godo along with the Giant Ants of Vega of Planet Vega were the monsters of the week in Ep.45 of the Grendizer Anime, the former serving as distraction to Grendizer, while the real threat, the Giant Vega Ants, attacked the countryside and the Space Center. This episode marks the introduction of the Drill Spazer, first piloted by Koji for a time before later been given to Maria Fleed who will start piloting it from Ep.51 onward.

Godo saucer mode was a conventional orange color flat disk, with saw blades coming around the side, while its tail protrude from the back end. Its Robot Mode possessed a massive black color torso with green-blue plates; it had a blue color bird like head with a hue-light green beak, green eyes and a blue neck; its short gray arms ended in connecting to the Saucer Shells; its legs were gray and green, ending in three talon feet, these were adorn with blue plates around the lower legs. Finally it had a long green lizard like tail which ended in a flail with spikes. Godo's Weaponry consisted of the Saw Blades, which it would use for both offense as well digging, the Saucer Shells, which would be usual standard shields, and missiles comings from under its feet. As well it would use its tail as a flail on its enemies.

The Vega Ants where Giant Insects affected by Vegatron in combination with Volcanic Sulfur, which explain their size and aggressive nature. Besides been fast diggers, these spew an acid substance from their pink tube like mouths, with small mandible on the sides; their fore legs ended in Blades like mantis (though small for their body ratio), and walk on 4 legs. Unlike Earth Ants, which are divided in 3 major sections (Head, Thorax and Abdomen) the Vega Ants Body posses multiple sections. Though their bodies were impervious to any attack they were killed if their heads were destroy or expose to extreme heat. Overall, their bodies were red, with blue eyes and purple-red limbs.

Goro shows his new handmade telescope to Koji, Daisuke and Hikaru, as he prepares to take the night watch for the first time; that night he sees a meteor that breaks in two crashing in the mountainous region in the horizon. Believing to be from Vega, he informs the others the following morning, but he is not believed, except Daisuke, who takes his word seriously, and the group leave, been called by Prof. Umon who present them the newest fighter jet in their fight against Vega: the Drill Spazer. Koji volunteers to be its test pilot.

During the test run over the mountains, the Drill Spazer is affected by an unknown light source coming from a volcano crater, Koji lands and decides to investigate the source in one of the caves. His presence does not go unnoticed by Vega, while Gandal is worried, Zuril reminds him that the Vegatron energy in the meteors carrying the eggs jams any signal, as well in reaction with Volcanic Sulfur will make the Vega Ants Eggs grow. Koji finds the meteor, but late in remembering Goro's words, the Eggs in the meteor begin grow to enormous size; he tries to destroy one, with no effect, and the ants hatch and attack. Koji escapes, avoiding their acid spits. The Invaders launch Godo Godo to have Grendizer occupy; once detected, Duke and Maria launch and immediately confront it, but Godo runs away with Grendizer following it. Goro then tells the staff about his meteor story, though again most don't believe him, Umon decides to see the security video recordings from the night before, which did indeed captured the meteors, though these were too small to carry any Saucer Beast. Not long after, Koji, once taking off on the Double-Spazer, contacts the Space Center warning them of the threat, vindicating Goro.

The Ants attack a nearby city and Duke is recalled to assist Koji, though is stopped by Godo Godo and the Mecha falls into the sea after ejecting. Gandal and Zuril, realizing the first batch of Ants awoke early, send out Godo to wake up the 2^nd batch of eggs. Grendizer connects with Marine Spazer and flies to assist Koji, whose fighting the Ants, but the Drill Missiles have no effect on their bodies; Duke appears and tells Koji to shoot them in the head, and successfully kills one Ant, and another falls over a fuel tank, exploding and been killed by the fire. Grendizer takes on the last ones with Double Harken, slicing one and the final one been burn by fuel fire. As the Saucer Beast heads to Mount Hiyoshi, Goro reminds Umon the 2^nd Meteor crashed in that area, and this one is closer to the center; realizing Vega's plan, Umon informs Duke to go to mount Hiyoshi. Grendizer connects with the Drill Spazer to go after the Saucer Beast, and catches up to it in an underground cavern for their final fight.

In their brief battle, Grendizer uses Drill Missile, destroying its right arm shield, forcing Godo to escape to the surface, Grendizer following it. On the surface, Godo tries to beat Grendizer with it's Tail but is cut by Hikaru, using Marine Cutter. The Beast crashes and Duke dispatched the Beast with Shoulder Boomerangs.

This left the Ants to deal with, which had now grown and come out the mountain, and are far more numerous; Umon tells Koji to fire the Drill Spazer's Spark Bomber onto the Volcano, triggering an eruption and the flowing lava kills the Ants on the surface and underground tunnels. With the ants destroy, Team Grendizer heads back to base; Umon and the staff give their thanks and praise to Goro, for having forewarn them on time.
