Good afternoon, fellow deviants!
So you may ask, "what's up with that clickbait title?" No, I'm not retiring from drawing, art, comics, or anything else like that. I do, however, think that I'm going to retire from taking commissions (at least, commissions that aren't live at a comic con or other events). I've been thinking a lot about this recently. The last 10 years or so, I've been here on Deviantart, and I've done a pretty steady stream of commissions. In fact, I can't think of any point in the last 6 years at least when I haven't had a list of them that were chronically late. Those of you who've commissioned me know exactly what I'm talking about - it takes several months for me to complete a commission, sometimes longer. When I first started this, I could turn a full-color commission around in a week, but it's been a long time since that's been the case.
While I appreciate every single commission that's come my way, and I also appreciate every single person who's enjoyed my work enough to pay me to draw their characters, the steady flow of work has left me with very little time to work on my own ideas, or to even practice to try to improve as an artist. As a result, I feel like I'm not where I should be in terms of my skill level. So, after ten years of working for money, it's time to refocus on the art.
Now obviously, people who have already ordered commissions from me will receive their orders. I'm definitely not trying to swindle anyone or leave anyone in the lurch. Also, I'll still be doing sketches at comic cons, so if you live in the southeast United States, keep your eyes peeled (or if you happen to run a con or event, shoot me a message!) and you can get a live sketch for your very own. But, at least for the time being, I'd like to put some focus onto my Patreon (patreon.com/gavinmichelliart) and my Youtube (www.youtube.com/user/gavinslay…) pages. Also, as always, you can get original art or prints at my store (squareup.com/store/gavinmichel…) or on Ebay (www.ebay.com/usr/gavinmichelli…).
You'll also be able to get original head sketches if you buy my 2018 sketchbook. But other than those head sketches and sketches at cons, I'll be focusing on the stuff I want to draw and paint.
Like I said before, I've been doing this DA thing for a while. For those of you who have been with me for a while, thanks so much for your support over the years. For those of you who are just joining me, thanks for watching, and I hope I can give you some great new stuff to look at soon!
