Description
There's a distinct lack of variety in regards to graves in the Sims4. Even with the CC out there, I kinda wanted to have more. And I wanted it to be from the Sims; not anything from a different game series. And that's why I set out to convert the tombstones and urns form the Sims2 to the Sims4. And I wanted ALL of them - even the default one which I don't even really like. Even the Cheap one found by another Simmer (which I later learned exists). Even the pet one because pets are people too!
So if you want a gaudy graveyard or to continue a story from the Sims2 or just want more variety for your Sims4 graveyard these are for you! You can even engrave an epithet, just like the basegame's decorative tombstones. Because that's what they're based on.
After doing them I can kinda see why they weren't done before. The basic one is, well, basic. But the aspirational ones all have this odd, faceted look to them. I think it relates to how the Sims2 handled metallic objects. I think those parts were broken up like that to give them an interesting shine in the Sims2 ... and it doesn't translate too well to the Sims4. I tried to merge the faces, but that made another problem, so I left them as they were. If they're faceted so be it! While I made sure to use proper normals for the regular tombstone I also included one without the rugged texture on it too. Since I kinda like how that looks better. Interestingly there are several different versions of the broken aspirational urn that corresponds to all the aspirations (that use those specific textures) ... but they're mapped to the wrong aspiration! I modified the texture to erase the shadow. I mean, who needs so many different textures for the broken urn?
This set includes the "grow up" tombstone by Michelle at Mod the Sims (modthesims.info/download.php?t…) with permission. At first I had trouble getting the tombstones from Sims2 and had planned to use hers, but I was ultimately able to rip them myself and the Urns too. I also used her idea to make silver versions, although Sims2 does that differently.
This set also uses the Cheap Tombstones and Urn by CrabOfDoom at Mod the Sims (modthesims.info/download.php?t…). His TOS says people can convert his Maxis based stuff and there's only one item there, so I guess it's okay. With his, though, I used an unused texture that was attached to the regular tombstone that seems to fit his Cheap version (it has a crack in it and everything! THAT's pretty cheap). Although I included his wood texture too. Because why not, right? The straightened and toppled ones are ones he modified.
Update 14/12/17 - I added the Sims 2 console's Urn and Tombstone just for kicks! I didn't know it was different and when I saw it on YouTube I really wanted to add it for completion's sake. Since it's just a marble slab I think it turned out alright. WAY better than the regular Sims2 tombstone. I had an impulse to do the Pets one too, but never followed through. The only way for Pets to die is of old age and ... yeah. I am not going to play that game on my slow, old version of Dolphin just to get a Tombstone that might not even look good in Sims4.
Update 7/15/18
I was inspired to work on this project a bit more after a conversation with Jacob A. O'Connor jacobaoconnor.co.vu who offered me the use of his own tombstones for conversion. So here we are!
Newly added are:
- Blank aspirational tombstones (using his texture) and Urns.
- "Grow up" urns. (provided by him)
- Pet tombstones and urns (using his mesh and texture)
- Power tombstones and urns
- and Creativity tombstones and urns
The creativity and power icons were made by me - basically I traced the (extremely small) icons in Edge Animate and imported them into Blender and - there you go! I was tempted to call "Creativity" "Craft", but ultimately didn't think it was really accurate.
Additionally I made sure to add thumbnails for all my items, so they don't cause the game to lag.
So have some with the new Aspirational tombstones and urns!
Update 4/10/19
I recently found out that the unused cheap tombstone is not completely unused, nor is the unused granite texture. They ARE used ... in the Sims 2 PSP.
I looked for the wood texture the PSP game uses to use, but none can be found. I wonder why it was removed, but not the shadow or the grass texture? Well, I may not be able to get the original, but I can still rip the PSP's texture file and apply it to what i have! I also added the unused granite texture tot he regular, moderate grave since it seems it's supposed to have that too. Maybe it was used in the Sims2 all this time and I just never noticed? Dunno.
Update September 22 2019
Minor edits. All tombstones can now be struck by lightning and talked to by the insane.
Update April 12 2020
I had no idea the Sims 2 Console had a tombstone as a save icon when you try to delete it. This set now includes that in both the regular colors and the off-colors generated by ripping the texture both as a full model and (the more useful) isolated model. I couldn't rip this completely accurately, but I did my best to reconstruct the model as best I could. It was a real struggle to since the backfaces seem to be deleted by the game itself and the model just won't rip in three dimensions. but I finally figured out why some games have weird colors when ripped and how to solve it using Photoshop. I really like this model.
Update December 5, 2020
Console tombstones and the unused cheap tombstone have been updated with AI upsized texture maps! Additionally I've remade the cheap console tombstone so it has better grass.
February 14 2021
I've updated all the tombstones to include proper tags to function more fully as actual tombstones.
February 14 2022
The Tombstone is now live draggable so it can work better as an actual tombstone. I also removed the footprint for the toppled cheap tombstone since it's placement was always pretty terrible.
January 23 2023
Well, I found something interesting the other day. An unused tombstone texture! So of course I converted it. But it's actually a totally different layout than the used one ... and matches the bump map used for the in-game tombstone! Looking at this I think I get what they wanted to do with the bump map and, for whatever reason, just didn't do. So I did that here. In the Sims4. I also redid the textures for the console icon and PSP tombstones. I found an upscaler better than the one I was using at the time (just Photoshop's scale tool). Just when I thought this was done I find more to add.
