Deadliest warriors of all history
Badrock vs The Thing
Tough as Stone
Thomas John McCall aka Badrock info:
Height: 8 foot
Weight: 1800lbs
Weapons: Bare Hands
Strengths: After consuming the contents of his father’s genetic experiment Thomas was transformed into the Hero Badrock and acts as the muscle for the Superhero Team ‘The Youngblood’, Demi-Godlike strength (Thanks to his transformation Badrock could be argued to be one of the strongest Heroes in Image Comics, Was able to hold up a skyscraper, Once lifted roughly 750,000 tons with effort, Can punch through solid titanium, Harmed the likes of Overkill and Savage Dragon), Demi-Godlike durability (Thanks to his transformation Badrock can be argued to be one of the most durable Heroes in Image Comics, His Granite-like skin is described as ‘nigh invulnerable’, Tanked hits from the likes of Overkill and Savage Dragon), Above peak human speed/Superhuman reflexes (Despite his bulk Badrock can run faster than any natural human, Can match the likes of Overkill and Savage Dragon in speed), Possesses an accelerated healing factor (Once lost all of his limbs and regrew them whilst in a prolonged coma), Ages far slower than any natural human (In a future timeline Badrock was stated to be 1022 years old and still in his physical prime).
Weaknesses: Thanks to his youth Badrock is extremely impulsive and rarely thinks his fights through leading to massive property damage and endangering civilians.
Benjamin Grimm aka The Thing info:
Height: 6 foot 6
Weight: 432lbs
Weapons: Bare Hands
Strengths: Is one of the founding members of the Fantastic Four after becoming the Thing from exposure to the Power Cosmic acting as their muscle and can be considered one of the first Superheroes in fiction, Demi-Godlike strength (Can be considered one of the strongest non-God characters in Marvel history, Can lift thousands of tons with effort, Once supported the weight of an Oil Rig crashing down on him, Once caught a falling skyscraper and lifted it back into place, Casually punched out a T-Rex, Can harm the likes of the Hulk and Thor, Is the only character who was able to physically defeat the Super Adaptoid, Once physically overwhelmed the Silver Surfer, Hyperion has stated that being punched by Ben is like being hit by Mjolnir, Can casually benchpress 100 tons, Can created Thunderclaps by slamming his hands together, Armwrestled Professor Hulk to a stand still, Busted through walls made of Omnium Steel), Demi-Godlike durability (Despite his body seeming to be comprised of simple rock Ben has durability that far surpasses that, Regularly tanks hits from the Hulk during their routine sparring sessions, Laid under a Drill built to break through planets and stated that it ‘tickled’, Survived a blast from the Power Cosmic which split a planet in two, Survived multiple Boxing rounds against the Champion of the Universe in which he was beaten down in every round, Is completely unharmed by re-entry into Earths atmosphere), Above peak human speed/Massively hypersonic reactions (Despite his massive bulk and weight Ben can run faster than any normal human, Reacted to a sneak attack from Sunspot), Extreme stamina/willpower (Ben Grimm is basically the physical embodiment of ‘I didn’t hear no bell’ and outright refuses to surrender in any fight even if it might cost him his life), Possesses an extreme lung capacity.
Weaknesses: Whilst his refusal to surrender any fight has granted Ben many victories it always comes at great risk to his life, Thanks to his much larger body Ben has lost the ability to use smaller/more fragile items.
Battle begin!
Buildings shook and the concrete beneath cracked as two huge stone Fists collided, sending cars and trucks flying as Badrocks and the Things haymakers connected, sending a shockwave that rocked the New York streets around them and made the very skyscrapers themselves tremble.
“Come on! It was just an ice cream!” Badrock exclaimed as his entire body recoiled from the impact of his Fist against Ben’s, the Thing unmoving to the recoil as he launched himself forward to throw another haymaker at the taller Hero’s face.
“NO ONE! MESSES WITH MY FAMILY!” Ben roared back, having been driven to a pseudo paternal rage from Badrock having bumped into Valeria during their ‘uncle/niece’ time sending her ice cream to the ground, only for the younger Hero to make it worse in a moment of juvenile anger by blaming Valeria for bumping into him and insulting both her and Ben.
“Well maybe you should have taught the brat better!” Badrock snapped back, tanking Ben’s Fist to the face before outright forcing it back with his sheer neck strength, putting Ben on the backfoot before slamming both palms to the smaller Heroes chest to send him hurtling backwards.
Tumbling and bouncing off of the ground repeatedly Ben then slammed his hands to the ground, digging his fingers into the road to catch himself and bring himself to a stop, looking up just in time to see Badrock hurtling towards him, the younger Rock Hero tackling Ben to the ground before raining a flurry of crushing blows to his face, the sound of stone cracking against stone repeatedly echoing through the air as the road beneath Ben began to crater and sink with every hit before Badrock ended the assault by bringing both Fists down hard upon Ben’s head outright burying it in the ground.
“Had enough yet?!” the younger Hero then barked panting heavily with exertion only to gag as Ben’s hand shot up to grab him by the throat.
“Are you kiddin’?” Ben retorted, muffled by the concrete at first before he pulled his head out of the ground near completely unphased by the assault he had just endured “I FEEL FANTASTIC!!!” he then declared as he slammed his head forward into Badrock’s in a crushing headbutt, sending cracks along Badrock’s features before sending him flying back several dozen metres through the air.
Coming down hard enough to crater the road beneath him Badrock sat up just in time to take a thrown car to the face, the vehicle bouncing off of his head like it was a football causing more annoyance than damage as he grabbed the car from the air and tore it in half, taking both halves and smashing them together around his Fists to make makeshift Boxing Gloves with the wreckage.
Slamming his metal covered Fists together in the manner of a Boxer Badrock turned to see Ben running towards him with his Fists up, the Thing seeming to ‘catch on’ as he adopted a Boxing stance himself, the pair then beginning to circle each other whilst throwing jabs and haymakers at each other, neither bothering to dodge or weave as the sounds of stone meeting stone echoed out again.
Gritting his teeth as Ben’s Fist slammed against his jaw in an uppercut Badrock forced his head down against it, making Ben backstep before sweeping his arm back and throwing it forward in a crushing blow to the Things gut, lifting him off of his feet and sending him flying back through the street at such force that it created sonic booms through the air, sending cars flying as he shot passed them until he ended up crashing through the front window of a bar and slammed into the counter, obliterating it as he came to a stop from crashing through the back wall.
Grumbling as he picked himself up, Ben looked around to find that he had been sent through a very familiar bar, a deep rumble coming from the pit of his chest as he looked outside to see a bent street sign that read ‘Yancy Street’.
“Oh, now he’s done it” Ben snarled as the ground shook beneath him as Badrock charged towards the bar to continue the fight, the Thing stepping out of the now ruined bar cracking his knuckles and neck as Badrock bore down upon him, the larger Rock Hero throwing another crushing haymaker straight to Ben’s face, impacting with such force that it created a gale powerful enough to outright flatten the bar behind him as Ben stood unmoving.
Spitting as Badrock’s Fist cracked against his face Ben then reached up to grab hold of his wrist, pulling him down as he reeled his left Fist back “NO ONE MESSES WITH YANCY STREET!!!” he bellowed as he slammed his Fist to Badrock’s gut, punching with enough force to outright shatter the granite skin that covered his abdomen, knocking the air from Badrocks lungs and sending him crashing to his knees to which Ben grabbed him by the throat and brought him close to look him straight in the eye.
“Well will you look at that?” Ben then sneered as he tightened his grip on Badrock’s throat “guess what time it is!”.
With that Ben released Badrock to use both Fists to reign crushing blows upon his face and upper body, making him recoil with every hit as more and more of his granite coated skin began to crack and splinter with every hit before Ben raised both Fists up high.
“IT’S CLOBBERIN’ TIME!!!!!”.
With his famous battlecry Ben brought both Fists down upon Badrock’s head, shattering his skull and making his head outright pop like an overripe grape before sending his body crashing into the concrete below in a bloody crater.
Panting heavily as he then climbed out of the crater Ben then looked back with a scoff “you messed with the wrong Rock kid”.
Winner: The Thing
Well I wonder how many people will disagree with this.
Anyway, why does The Thing beat Badrock?
Well as mentioned above when researching this fight I have seen many people online claim ‘Badrock no difficulty’ and it just made me think ‘damn, these guys really don’t know who Ben is’.
Don’t get me wrong, Badrock is STRONG being one of the more powerful Heroes in Image Comics but that unfortunately doesn’t mean much when put against one of Marvel’s first true powerhouses, yes Ben’s only real thing is ‘nigh unbreakable and punches hard’ but that’s literally all he needs to contend with and even outright beat some of Marvel’s most dangerous characters.
His durability far exceeds Badrock’s multiple times over as he has shown planetary durability feats casually on multiple occasions and routinely tanks hits from beings who can shatter planets with utter ease, the main one being with his routine ‘spars’ with the Hulk.
Along with his durability Ben’s experience far outweighs Badrock’s as well having dealt with foes Badrock could only dream of contending with.
So whilst their strength is arguably comparable or even equal at a stretch it’s Ben’s sheer tenacity, durability and experience over the younger Hero that gave him the major edge in this match up.
