It had been a long and immensely fun day for handler Kodi and his tokota, Nalani.  It was their second time participating in a Faction Brawl, and the new events had encouraged them to try new things and enjoy every minute of training together.  While training for a long jump and tug of war seems like it is less so work and moreso fun, which it was for the most part for Kodi, getting calm and relaxed Nalani to even want to do these activities was more challenging.  Nalani is not the kind of tokota that got excited over nothing, and she spends most of her time simply watching others’ buffoonery.  But she does love Kodi, and watching him get crazy excited was amusing to her.  In attempts to get her more active, Kodi had been going to the drastic measures of rolling around in the snow, giving her playful full-body nudges, and even showing her how to jump and tug.  Eventually, Nalani gave into his puppy-dog face and bounded around with him.  Her main happiness in life was seeing Kodi smile, and she knew if he was trying this hard it must be for something big.
She was happy to attend another Faction Brawl; the event was always so inspiring.  The convergence of a vast plethora of different tokotas and handlers of all tribes was incredible, and one could feel the energy buzz in the air.  While some tokotas appeared as though they were there for the prize and meant serious business, the vast majority of participants were simply happy to be celebrating such a fun, special occasion once more.  After spending most of her day watching other tokotas participate and doing the long jump on such a nice, warm (well for Alaska) day, it was nearly time for the last event: the tug-o-war.  This was perhaps the most difficult thing for Nalani to learn considering her passive nature, but she would do her best to pull with the group and bring victory to the pack leaders once again.

The rope was placed and the tokotas were lining up in their designated spots and order, various pep-talks could be heard from the tokotas’ handlers.  Most of the tokotas were simply dancing in the snow, nearly too excited to wait for the event to begin to start tugging.  From her spot as second tokota in behind Peaches, Nalani could see the prestige breeders getting ready on the other side of the river.  They appeared to be going about preparing with a little more poise, but the excitement was evident on the faces of both tokotas and handlers.  It was nearly time to begin, this knowledge signaled by the handler’s movement to a specified distance from the tokotas to prevent tampering.  The crowd grew quiet as the judges took their spots.  The tokotas were instructed to pick up the rope, and the tension in the air was incredibly thick with anticipation before the command was finally given.

“Ready-set-TUG!” (497 words)
