Nia the Kenyan Engine by Galaxy-Afro Nia the Kenyan Engine by Galaxy-Afro
Yep, she's part of Sodor in this universe. Do I honestly care what people think about her being on Sodor in the Sudrian Chronicles? No, I don't. Honestly, I've actually been getting sick and tired of the fans being racist towards her, she's a great character and I look forward to adding her to the Sudrian Chronicles. Unlike her TV series version, she is painted black, much like her prototype in Kenya. I'm still working on her backstory for the Sudrian Chronicles. If wanted by you guys, she might get a variant with her Kenyan pattern. ~ Afro

I was about to watch an episode of a series, (the same person who did NWR Origins), and I looked in the comments before pressing play. Apparently in the video, they took a jab at Nia when she hasn't even appeared onscreen yet. My goodness, he should give her a freaking chance!

Hopefully, but yeah no problem at all. It allowed me to add some details to update her design in my series.

My main objection to Nia's existence was the fact they aren't using a pre-existing female. Say for instance, expanding Rosie's role. Or better, making Molly a permanent character.

That's why Nia is in my series alongside Molly and Rosie. I just added Flora's existance to Sudrian Chronicles. Diversity is needed these days, but the way that Mattel has added Nia is not great.

I see great potential in MANY characters on Thomas, but people like Mattel need to realize that Thomas isn't the ONLY character in the series.

Hell, Arthur may be the main character of "Arthur" on PBS Kids, but there are still plenty of episodes where he's not the main focus, or even appears. Mattel needs to quit shoving Thomas in EVERYTHING.

I think the fandom is more upset with the booting of numbers 2 and 3 more than Mattel being smarter and just adding them to the cast instead of replacing them.

True, and my portrayal of Nia in the Sudrian Chronicles will be executed well, after all, she will be the focus of the upcoming Thomas & The Fall Sequel! ;)

Except... Most of the criticisms of Nia have nothing to do with racism. Most of the ones I've seen anyway.

The criticisms in question were most likely deleted from Twitter by the users responsible. After one of the 15 year olds decided to refer to Nia as Ni**a, he was called out by the entire Sodor Island Fourms, and several others. He then diasappeared.

The other one I saw attempted to claim that it was the fault of Black People of all things for Mattel getting rid of both Edward and Henry. She then went on a racist rant, and tried to defend her actions. She was called out on the behavior, and again disappeared from Twitter.

I don’t hate Nia, I just don’t like that they are using her the Rebecca to replace Edward, Henry, and Toby instead of possibly forming a second steam team.

It's clear that Nia and Rebecca are being inserted into the main cast for the wrong reasons. I would write them as extensions to the Steam Team for my take on the Thomas universe, where my lineup is Engines 1-11, Emily, Rosie, Nia, Rebecca and Ashima.

It's definitely clear that Mattel doesn't understand how important to the series Edward, Henry and Toby were.

Fair enough, although in my opinion, just ditch the Steam Team entirely, and just focus on the entire ensemble cat, much like the classic seasons did.

I don't want Edward, Henry and Toby being replaced, they're too famous to be retired

I like how you made both her driver and fireman black.

Thanks, I'm trying to give the international engines crews that come from their home countries. In addition, my Sodor is quite diverse from the get-go. Think how Donald and Douglas have crews from Scotland like they are, or how Beresford is Jamaican. It's little details like the black crew that make this universe feel real. ~ Afro

For my series, I plan on focussing more on the relationship between the engines and their drivers. For example, Thomas's driver, Bob usually stops Thomas from doing anything foolish while the fireman, Fred  tends to be more carefree and sometimes joins in on Thomas's antics.

Thanks. Also not every engine has a kind driver. Percy and Diesel's drivers are harsh and borderline abusive to their engines. This caused Percy to develop his fearful personality and Diesel lashes out on everyone else.

Quite an interesting bit for drivers. Not gonna lie, I'm glad to see people taking more of an interest in the drivers of the engines. It's something that the TV series has made me want more of since the Arlesdale adaptations!
