An avian leviathan species that live in deep dunes of the desert.
They use their bioluminescent quills to sense vibrations in the sand. They use this to locate prey.
These quills can retract into their ear canals when they are sleeping to keep them protected.
The bioluminescent vents on their bodies allow them to expel heat as well as propel them faster through the sand.
They use bioluminescence to attract mates as well as to appear more intimidating at night. They also use the flaps either side of their heads to intimidate as well.
They mostly hunt at night but do also occasionally hunt at day. Once they locate their prey, they leap out from under the sand and exhale.
Exhaling causes air to blast from the vents on their body and launch them further. It also makes a horrific sound.
They keep their noses on the top of their heads exposed as well as their ears and quills that are often mistaken for rocks and plants.
They usually only hunt large mammals, they rarely bother with humans/humanoids. Some have been recorded to be 100 ft long.
