Description

So, I have had this idea bouncing around in my head for a while. After reading the general bio below, let me know if you would make one of these if I make it an open tribe once I make a template!

RetroWings/SynthWings (not sure on which name to go with yet, comment below with which you like better?), are based upon SynthWave or RetroWave music, which is a mix of electronic and 80's music.

About These dragons:

RetroWings/SynthWings are a mix of living being and machine-like qualities without the metal and circuits. These dragons live mainly underground, communicating by light, much like Seawings or by speaking if needed. Their colors are determined by the natural dyes and colors found in their food, amplified by the light their body produces via bio-luminescent (glowing, natural) bacteria in their body. The food they take in determines the color "film" put over the light, basically. Much like if you put a translucent piece of red plastic in front of a flashlight. Flamingos in nature do something very similar with the pink in their feathers coming from the shrimp they commonly feed on. When these dragons don't take in food with dyes, their glowing areas simply turn white! Dragons commonly limit their diets to keep their colors the same across their body. If they take of a wide variety leads to a very colorful and constantly color-shifting dragon.

Their colors also shift and move as their body processes dyes and replaces them with new dyes. Their emotions can also make colors shift as their body would digest food quicker when mad and adrenaline production picks up. Adrenaline mixed with the dyes turns their colors warmer (reds, oranges, yellows, warm purple). Then they are relaxed or at ease, their colors tend to be dependent on their diets. When sad or solemn, their colors shift to blues with the missing levels of serotonin, a chemical commonly missing when someone is depressed or sad.

As they speak, the brightness of the colors increase when loud and soften when whispering.

They do NOT have eyes. They have a dome of sorts covering where their eyes should be. With a wide range of vision, this allows the receptors in their eyes to take in as much light from the surroundings around them and from the light their own body produces, and can redirect it to see in the dark, much like cats. They also are able to sense temperature differences around them with infrared vision as well. This allows them to hunt in the dark with ease. Their eyes are able to see what dyes are found in which creature, by making the prey glow in the color the item contains. Blueberries hanging on a bush would glow blue, a squirrel running on the ground would glow red (iron in blood), grasses and leaves would glow various colors of green (or yellows/red/orange if in autumn).

The colored markings vary slightly for every dragon. The shape of the glowing areas do not change, but the colors themselves do.

The heirarchy isn't determined yet. I will add this once I develop the society more.

Reproduction:

These dragons reproduce like most dragons, in laying eggs that hatch after a period of time. However, the method these dragons create the eggs is very different than most. They find what is called an "Aphelion" (based upon their celestial observations, where they are awake when the sun is farthest from them i.e. the sun being on the opposite side of the planet) or mate. This decision is sometimes based on attraction, sometimes it is based on instinct based on genes. This Aphelion becomes their mate for life. When they are ready to create an egg, they hide away for an entire night. They essentially enter a meditation state with each other, their tails linked together. Their tails, when it comes to reproduction, act like wires for the brain. When they meditate, they link minds via a "Datastream", which is the most precious of all their mental capabilities. In the Datastream, the dragons connect in every sense possible. Everything they are mixes in order to create a perfect replica of the fusion of each other. The result is different each time, depending on how the data mixes in the Datastream. If the Datastream is broken before an egg is made, or if one of the two in the pair resists, one or both of the dragons can become lost to the Datastream, and perish. This has occurred in many pairs that were not really in love as they once thought, or if something interrupted their connection. It has also been a way for a dying dragon to transfer into their mate in order to live with them until the remaining one dies. This allows these dragons to be quite hardy when it comes to the death of their Aphelion. Once one egg is made, a copy of the Aphelion resides in the brain of the other, making an ultimate bond. The dying spirit will find its way to its Aphelion in order to remain together. Forever more, they will be one, through life and death. The egg they create is a symbol of their relationship.

Let me know what you think and if you would be interested should I make this an open tribe!
