Who the heck are they? by gagaman92 Who the heck are they? by gagaman92
I've been tagged by mahhhh love. :iconlilyreaper1013:

Sooooo... underrated characters seem to be an interesting topic to talk about, because we can speculate with the

little things we know about them. ^^

So now I will be explaining why I have chosen those characters and what I like about them.

10 - Oddworld
I never played any of the Oddworld games whatsoever, but I would love to try some games after seeing some

intriguing reviews of the entire series. The characters style seem to be very intricate and cartoony... which I

like. ^^ The gameplay of some of these games seem fun and challenging. :3 I figured I had to put

Oddworld, because I haven't seen anyone put it in their top 10 underrated characters and the fact that I have

never played any games is a bit of a stretch to be higher. ^^;

9 - Mischief Makers characters
Mischief Makers is an amazing game for the Nintendo 64. I've only had the chance to play it on emulator... I

haven't finished the game yet, but I still like it to this day. ^^
So many sweet characters. :3 The heroic Marina, Professor Theo who always gets kidnapped, the Clancers, the

Beastectors... and so on. ^w^

8 - Gex (the gecko)
I'm glad my old friend introduced me to this mascot, because I would've never cared about underrated characters

in the first place. So anyway, Gex stars in his own series and his duty is to defeat Rez in the Media dimension.

He navigates through several TV channels to find special collectible remotes to advance to the next levels. What

I like about Gex is his personality, voice, the way his outfits change from all the different channels and his

abilities; such as tail bouncing, flying karate kick, tail whippin' and eating flies by stretching his tongue.

He also makes the most obscure pop culture and celebrity references. XD If only he had more sequels, his games

are just playin' fun. :3

7 - Kiddy Kong
People keep saying Donkey Kong Country 3 is the weakest of the trilogy, but I beg the differ. Kiddy proves to be

a useful sidekick for Dixie. I always found myself playing as him more than Dixie, maybe it's because of his

abilities that grasps me... BOUNCING ON WATER?!?! HECK YEAH!! :la: Other than that... I always enjoy seeing his

big grin, plus who else in the Kong family always wears a blue pajama... only him. :meow:

6 - Necrid
Necrid was introduced in Soul Calibur 2 (gosh I love that game :) ) and he's just playing awesome. ^^ Something

about his armor, his chest orb, his giant clawed hand, his ship shafting energy ball and his unknown spoken

language... it's all we need for a badass fighter in such game. :3 It's too bad he never came back in the

sequels. He doesn't have much fanart either. -3-

5 - Snowboard Kids
Anybody remembers Snowboard Kids (1 & 2) for the Nintendo 64? OK... maybe you do or maybe you don't, but it's

fine, that's why I'm making this list so I can talk about it. ^^ Alright, so basically it's a snowboard game

series (duhhhh) involving big nosed kids going on a tournament to be the best snowboarders. They can use items

during the races to knock themselves out... how friendly. :o All the characters are pretty cute and have a

unique style to them, having different shape of noses and such. Also I think the music is the best part of the

games :3 ... although it's a shame there is only two games in the series. =w=

4 - Chameleon Twist
"Licking up, way to the top" :D
Chameleon Twist 1 & 2 for the Nintendo 64 are pretty decent and challenging games. Although I've played

Chameleon Twist 2 more than the first, the concept is very original and haven't been imitated since. Using their

tongues as forms of strategy is pure genious. ^w^ Question is... where is the fanart?! O.o I haven't seen much

of Davy, Jack, Fred, Linda and the rest. How is it hard to draw alien-shaped head chameleons with backpacks? o3o

3 - Glover
At one point, Sammie wanted to see me play "Glover" on Project 64... and so I did for her pleasure... and mine

too eventually. :3
Glover is such a simplistic character with creative hazards, such as using different type of balls (bouncing

ball, bowling ball and bawlllzzzz of steel :iconballsofsteelplz: ) to get across strategic pathes, solving

puzzles, pressing switches, so on and so forth. The character himself doesn't have a lot of fanart, I don't see

what is so hard to draw a gloved hand with four fingers and a face... so what are you waiting for?!... DO SOME

FANART FOR HAND JUSTICE!! :ohnoes:

2 - U-Mos
Remember this character? Remember that awesome Metroid Prime sequel that people left out for some reason... /)_-
Anyways, yes I friggin's LOVE this character! O3o There is something about him that makes me think that he looks

like a tall alien moth... well that's unique isn't it? :3 We don't see a lot of moth characters now do we? On

another note, he is the last living Sentinel of the Luminoth, he is also the guardian of the Great Temple's

Energy Controller on Aether (planet). He doesn't do much in the game, but heck... he explains his backstory to

Samus so that she could do him a favour to save his race and his planet in the end... how fortunate. :aww:

1 - Zorotl
Who is that mofo you may ask... Well he is... Zorotl... anyone? No? Doesn't ring a bell? Ok then! :o
Zorotl was a character introduced in Eiffel 65's music videos "I'm Blue" and "Move Your Body". He was actually a

virtual member for the band. He also had a few buddies with him in the "I Wanna Be" music video. To be honest, I

used to listen to Eiffel 65 a lot, but not anymore, but I still have this character printed in my head to this

day. In the "Move Your Body" music video, he's going as far as to save his girlfriend who has been kidnapped

by... fans. o3o For some reason, he has a lot of duplicates of himself... are they evil? Because in the "I'm

Blue" music video, the band start fighting a bunch of Zorotl clones just to get to a concert... how can they

figure which one is the real Zorotl?! O_o But I digrace, he deserves to be number 1! He is very expressive, he

is blue skinned and apparently he can also kick ass in "I Wanna Be". :dummy:
Need... more... fanart... please! T3T

Well, there ya go! :D

Yep, I remember all of these.  If only Mischief Makers and Chameleon Twist were well-known enough so Nintendo would put them on the virtual console so I could re-experience them again.  Though thank you, Sony, for at least putting the Gex games in your store.  It was so nice finally getting far into those. (Almost beat them.  Almost) The only issue I've always had with Gex is how all of his dialog is just quotes.  Seriously, he's like that wannabe on the playground who thinks just quoting films/shows all the time is the key to being cool.

Gex = Awesome. I actually beat Enter The Gecko with 100% completion once.

Ooh! really? That's amazing, man! ^^ It's not an easy task to 100% Enter the Gecko. Especially when going for the bonus levels and silver remotes (even some bronze remote missions can be quite tricky to reach, especially in maze-like levels).

The final boss was actually the hardest part of it all. Took me several tries to beat him and had to farm extra lives in the first Toon TV level.

I remember every single one of them. It makes me feel good that there's someone else who hasn't forgotten about these characters.

Oddworld is crazy for sure. My fav had to be Strangers Wrath, with how he shoots Monsters out from a Crossbow to attack enemies. One of the craziest weapon ideas ever!

I recall Gex, and his crazy adventures fighting against Rez in the Video Dimension, with all those show and movie parodies. Too bad the company wants to focus more on Tomb Raider now.

And Glover, wasn't exactly a fan, but I'd consider him a 1-hit wonder. Interesting concept how he magically turns the Castle Crystals into various balls and has to return them to the castle, simultaneously having to use them to progress through the stages too. Though it was a hard game (at least for me at the time). I never could figure out how to beat the Frankenstein Monster Boss.

Chameleon Twist I remember both games, very obscure. Like Alice in Wonderland, with a transformed chameleon who can use his tongue like a grappling hook and spit out things he catches on it.

Snowboard Kids reminded me a lot of Mario Kart, but the characters made me think of Doug for some reason.

And Mischief Makers, oh man that game was da bomb! Like so many other Treasure titles!

Some other characters I think could go well on there.

-Shyna Nera Shyna from Silhouette-Mirage.
-Linda from Stretch Panic
-Voodoo Vince
-Sir Daniel (MediEvil)
-Geeker from Project G.eeK.eR.
-A lot of the stuff from Epic Mickey
-The Trap Door characters
-Robotomy

Ahhh I see we have a fan of those obscure character as well, eh? I definitely grew fondly of those characters even though I may have played their games once.

Love the Oddworld series for its charm, characters and the world they inhabit. It's easy to enjoy the cutscenes and character interactions, but the gameplay is what makes those games in my opinion. From Cinematic Platformers, a 3D RTS Platformer to a 3D Platformer/FPS. From what I can recall, most people remember the first two games on PS1, but I feel like Munch's Odyssey and Stranger's Wrath still deserve a spotlight, despite their flaws. I still need to try "New 'n' Tasty".

Ohhhh Gex, what an underappreciated mascot he is. I got first introduced to him in "Gex 64: Enter the Gecko" and loved the game ever since. I just really love the imagination the creators have put together to parody as much movies, TV shows and TV tropes as much as possible. You don't really see that kind of concept nowadays, well except for a few games that break the 4th wall on occasion. I thought Gex 3 was alright, not as spectacular as Gex 64, but still a fun series to play around and notice all the little details and references. Yup, I agree! Too many Tomb Raider games. :XD:

Yeah Glover was pretty tacky near the end. What I mean is that it was pretty intriguing from the start, nice level designs, unique gameplay (rolling, bouncing & throwing the balls), even some nice music but at some point near the end of the game, it's like the developers didn't know what to do next. Some of the later levels feel rushed or unpolished which turns it from a good game to a mediocre game in my opinion. Even playing the mini games felt out of place and some of the bosses were too easy to beat. Eh, I may sound harsh on Glover but perhaps that's because I didn't know what to expect. But still, I had to put him on there just to clarify how underrated he is-- Hehe.

What can I say? I fell in love with the concept of playing as a chameleon and swinging around to reach places you wouldn't normally reach or land in other traditional 3D Platformers. I thought the first game was average, but the sequel is where its at: great soundtrack, quite challenging at times and a collectible system which rewards you with new skins. Some of the bosses had pretty quirky designs too. Really slick game indeed!

Another forgotten gem on the N64. I need to replay those games... all I remember is that they had great soundtracks. lol :P

Yesh! Mischief Makers has the charm and everything that is nice. Tell me another game in which you shake objects and enemies and use it as a battle strategy... exactly: none! I feel a pattern here; it feels like a lot of underrated games are based on unique concepts that were never replicated or done as well as they were built from the ground up.

Thanks for the sharing your thoughts on those forgotten series and characters. I do recognize some of them that you suggested me, otherwise I've never heard of them (and that's totally fine). ;)

Oh, I remember those aliens from I'm Blue.  Since the computer animation has not aged well in that video, both the song and video are the equivalent of a cheesy B-movie.  Seriously, how were the members of Effiel 65 able to take out the aliens that easily?

Blue (Da Ba Dee) is #9 on Bennett the Sage's Top Ten WTF Music Videos.  He says the plot seems like it was written by a five year old. blip.tv/sagereviews/sage-speci…

Right on that! Very cheesy music video with mediocre alien designs. I don't know, it always seems like the humans are more powerful in sci-fi movies/shows rather than the aliens... it should be the reverse, darnit! xD

Thanks for the video. I just finished watching it, and Bennett had some great picks here. Eiffel 65's music video seems like childplay compared to other videos that are much much muuuuuch weirder, like of Björk, Tool and Aphex Twin (especially Aphex Twin).

I never thought I would ever find anyone who likes U-Mos or Necrid. Two great characters overlooked in two great games. Great job!

I guess it's because I grew up with those characters. U-Mos and Necrid in particular seem to have a purpose in their own respective games, and they're not just some foul creatures... and that's what makes them so awesome, in my opinion. ^^
