Today, 76 years ago, the MV Wilhelm Gustloff was hit by 3 torpedos from the submarine S-13 in the Baltic Sea while evacuating German civilian refugees to escape the advancing Red Army. More than 9,000 lost their lives, making it the worst wartime disaster in history, and largest loss of life in a single ship disaster.
