CONTINENTS

INOPIA

psl

The former lands that mankind used to describe as North America are now a continent called Inopia. Aside from Eurosia, this is one of the little places humans have learned how to defend themselves against the forces of nature. Multiple provinces divide the land Eurosians tend to call the PSL. Towns have formed here where mankind found good shelter, and cities spawned from Eurosia's will. One bigger than the other, but all built to be efficient. Even decent infrastructure was provided between the biggest cities in Inopia.

TEREBRAS

This is the most northern province of Inopia. After severe solar radiation heated up the land and melt the ice away, they soon discovered it was ideal for mining. It offered multiple kinds of ores and gems, even coals. It did not take long before industry started growing around the area. Most cities lay in a network of enormous underground tunnels, shaped by ice and water that once used to flow in these depths. Where the smooth rock doesn't provide cover for any acidic rain, glass roofs built by Eurosia do. Lakes can be found both on the surface and underground. Water from these sources is usually used to be purified. While riches live in decent houses in the city center the modal class tends to live close to the places that provide the most work; the mines and the trading grounds. The 'caves' vary from small to big, depending on how much time or energy a family would spend on chipping living spaces from the rock. The poor here often lived in the slums on the surface. Their houses built between the tall solar structures trad provides energy for most of Inopia's cities. Terebras only provides a small number of towns and cities that are built above surface level.

ILLANE

The commonwealth of Inopia, a source of education and head province of the PSL. Eurosia's influence is strongest here. This is the place most agriculture takes place. Large biodomes made of thick glass coup over the lands. Providing shelter from the harsh weather and creating the ideal environment for keeping stock and growing crops. Many advanced farming techniques and technologies are used in this area. Close connections to both Terebras and Mercor, combined with the many resources Illane offers, made the province a natural hotspot for Eurosian export. Big landing pads extend into the sky daily to let Eurosia's massive hover crafts come down, loading up food and useful materials. Import, on the other hand, is rare, and when it comes it's meant for the Eurosian officials controlling the Inopian cities. The governors who lived in Illane would often show off their Eurosian riches by building massive glass towers in the middle of their city, the biggest to be found in the Glass Gales, which provided an almost artistic dome, spiking over the city. The Glass Gales is Illane's capital, where education was provided for everyone, in exchange for labor. Middle-class citizens of Illane are often still pretty well off compared to the rest of the PSL, as acidic rain doesn't cross the lands often. Little people live outside of the domes, and those who do only a special coating has to be painted on houses to keep them from crumbling down.

MERCOR

This province has the most diverse terrains, ranging from green hills to red deserts and deep blue shores. The diverse land provides the most diversity in cultures. Jobs differ from region to region.

In the east, where most land is surrounded by shore, men often spent their life on small boats providing Inopia of seafood and waste material, others risking their lives by diving, and plundering the ancient flooded cities.

In the south the Bloody desert lay, where red sand and rock cover the lands. The heat is almost unbearable here, and so it is not the most popular trading route. Even though the harsh exposure to radiation of the sun, people have managed to built communities. Some built in the structures of red rock towering over the lands, others near large oases or even underground, where the sand gives away to ancient domes, preserved under the mass red sand. Because the desert is more remote than the rest of the civilized PSL, they often use solar structures to provide themselves with energy. Small towns that cannot afford solar systems usually use lanterns or glow in the dark material to light up their streets and homes at night. Water is scarce, and often collected via rain systems or imported from other parts of the Mercor. Riches usually live in the preserved cities underground or near oases.

In the south of Mercor hills roll over thick forests. Rivers cut through the lands and high cliffs break through the water where sea meets land. Communities here build big stone walls to keep unwanted nuclimals and pests out. Hunters, herbalists, and traders often live in villages around this place. People living in this province are usually a little more down to earth and have a higher experience dealing with nature and nuclimals. While riches live well protected within the walls, other need to head out and survive to earn their bread. Small huts spread out over the hills and forests for people to rest in while traveling around.

Cauda

A land featuring tropical forests, featuring a great diversity in flora and fauna. Often referred to as 'the Tail' by Inopians, because of its shape on the map. This particular area functions as a transition zone between the continent of Inopia and Ferox. An exotic land to the south that hosts large predatory wildlife that often crosses over to the PSL. This makes Cauda an exceptionally dangerous place to live. Only in the most northern parts or Cauda, Eurosia built her cities. Just close enough to their forest to harvest the exotic goods. Most rich traders stay within the city walls, together with the biggest part of the middle class. Many people have taken up craftsmanship here, as industry and high-level education is not very common, nor is any advanced technology. People from other parts of the PSL may call the many folks and clans living in Cauda wildlings, surviving what most could not. Larger communities that live deeper into the forest often built large spiked walls from natural resources. Some small towns have built their architecture high in the trees, hanging from cliffs and even dug into hills. All to provide protection from dangerous threats.

Ferox

Wildlands

Ferox is a continent ruled by mother nature itself. Nuclimals have grown so common in these lands that it is too dangerous for any humans to live around. The radiation from the sun is extremely high in these parts, influencing flora and fauna growth. The climate is suffocatingly humid and frequently causes tropical storms, often bringing acidic rain with it.

montes

A large mountain range stretching from the north to south coast. Treacherous steep cliffs make it hard to move around the area. Large and swift predatory nuclimals roam both the air and ground here. Even the sea is not to be trusted with the high radiation levels.

Silva

An enormous island covered with tropical rain forest and exoticly colored flora and fauna. Radiation has caused this land to change it's colors, and nuclimals adjusted with it. Most plants that grow here are toxic to humans and normal animals, and can only be digested by nuclimals. Havind developed among their own sorts of species, Nuclimals on this island are extremely ferocious and bred to fight. It's survival of the fittest.

eurosia

supernation

Eurosia is the highly advanced supernation that currently holds the power over the world, having used it's resources to raise the land to livable standards. The nation formed out of the chaos and conflict of former Europe and Asia. This nation exists as the world's sole organized government and military force. Military presence of Eurosia is has been felt in the PSL steadily for close to two centuries. Eurosians generally look down on Inopians, viewing them as unimportant peasants who should grateful for what the nation had done for them in the past. As of now, Eurosia has stopped developing the land and is taking most of it's resources.

Eurosia is positioned overseas, combining what is left from the ancient Europe and South Africa. Three main provinces mark the land, but only one features human life.

eximius

The capital province of Eurosia. A large area where the high technology has survived and further developed. Robots do most of the manual labor in these parts of the world, while human kind can spent it's time living freely.

Most high-class Eurosians spent the biggest part of their lives in Life Suspending Pods. Special machines that let one's conscious life in virtual reality, where it can study and explore the world of urban possibilities freely while the body is being preserved. This can lead up to multiple decennia added to one's lifespan

Lower class Eurosians spent less time in their pods, having to make an earning in real life. Those Eurosians are often doctors performing regular checkups, tradesmen working in the import center, pilots flying on and off to the PSL and many more practical jobs that need human hands.

industria

South Africa had grown too hot and radiated for human life, but Eurosians found good use for it anyway. They build a massive power plant, using special solar panels that could resist such extreme heats, Eurosia covered the land with it. They built automatic factories that worked that worked 24/7 to clean water from the sea.

Volitaire

After the sea level had risen, nothing much was left of Scandinavia but three islands. Eurosia planted massive windmills all over those lands, taking all power the wind could offer them. Only a couple of robots inhabit the islands to keep the windmills up and working.

noxia

wastelands

Parts of eastern Europe and large parts of Asia wasted away after the massive mascarade that had burned the lands the the ground. High radiation levels and unpredictable weather has made it so that no human life has set foot on these lands for over hundreds of years. The land remains mainly undiscovered, and there is little information available.

Transitus

The transition zone between Noxia and Eurosia. Eurosia built an immensely high wall on a border of where nuclear energy is just weak enough to be harmless to human life. Nobody knows what goes on behind the walls, except for rumors or theories.

Toxia

The massive amount of land beyond the wall, untouched by people since the downfall of humanity.

Bellua

Former Australia, the tale goes wildlife has grown extremely large in these parts of the world. They call it the land of giants, even though it is just rumor.

common terms

ghost

A Ghost is someone who has had their chip removed and destroyed via special surgery upon entering the group. To the government they are declared dead as a chip will stop working and show vital signs at zero. There is an exception where some cases of civilians have had run-ins with animals and  their chip had broken in the process, but even broken chips are still traceable by Eurosia.

lsp

Short for 'Life Sustaining Pod'. An invention founded under the idea that humanity must endure at any cost. They implemented a program to keep the majority of citizens within their capital city in physical stasis while they are mentally plugged into a virtual city. This VR technology is built off the technological boom the world experienced shortly before plunging into chaos. Through years of its implementation it has been known simply as the LSP project. Little is known to Inopians about what actually transpires in this virtual world other than the accounts of those who have escaped.

e.s.d.a

Short for 'Eurosian Science Development Association'. The organisation leading the the high tech and research fields in Eurosia, both in VR and RL. E.D.S.A is said to possess over an incredible amount of data about the world, and could reach infinite possibilities if they develop their technology even further. Inosians are uncertain what the association is working on, but expect something potentionally harmful could be made to make the differences between Eurosians and Inosians even bigger.

nuclimal

Unofficial term coined by residents of the PSL referring to the various wild animals of the wasteland. The word itself is a slang term combining “Nuclear” and “Animal”.  Nuclimals are named such because of their altered appearance in response to the nuclear toxins that have moved through the ecosystem and up food chains for centuries. Wildlife has largely changed in the previous few centuries due to the buildup of radiation and other contaminants in the environment. They may have extra or misshapen claws and fangs, major deformities, and certain breeds are now exclusively hairless, or have odd or bright colorations/ plumage. This serves the purpose of attracting mates in an environment where there are fewer potential mates to begin with..  Although variety and population of wildlife has decreased to match the shrinking land masses of the world, many of the fauna native to the continent have survived in decreased numbers. Attacks from mountain lions, wolves, and very rarely bears, while rare, are still a part of life in the PSL. The majority of nuclimals, regardless of diet, are dangerous and should be approached with extreme caution.

Acidic Rainfall

Created in much the same way that acid rain occurs today, the rain is in much larger quantities and of a far greater potency. Skin that comes in direct contact with rainfall is painfully burned, leaving a lasting scar. Residents of the PSL have found ways to coat new structures in neutralizing agents to protect housing and other buildings but over time the acidic rain has eaten away at the old, towering metropolises making the remaining skyscrapers highly unstable and dangerous to enter. Residents of the PSL have learned since birth to take any form of shelter at any cost to avoid the harmful effects. Water collected from rainfall or other sources has to boiled several times and pass through filters. Drinking unprocessed water can be fatal.

Severe Solar Radiation

FAs the ozone layer broke down over the years, more and more harmful levels of ultraviolet radiation and low levels of other types steadily flood the earth, facilitating the rise in ocean levels. Over the centuries humanity has been able to partially adapted to harsher sun. Across all existing ethnicities humans began developing skin that was better suited to blocking out the solar radiation. These individuals exhibit slightly darker skin than they would have centuries before. Not all of humanity has shared in this adaptation however. Individuals of all skin tones still exist in the world. Those possessing lighter or even pale skin have had to adapt to covering exposed skin when staying outside for extended periods of time during the day. For someone with pale skin, remaining outside uncovered for most of a day can produce severe burns. During night or dawn or dusk hours the need to protect exposed skin is lessened.

Toxic water

Water that has not been purified and can still contain bacteria, acid or nuclear radiation. Drinking unpurified water often results of slow, fatal cases. Destroying the body from the inside.
