Description

:iconguild-valyreus:

Name: Hatsuyo (“Tsuyo”)

Age: 23

Gender: Female, she/her

Species: Human

Class: Healer

Tattoo Location: on the back of her left hand, but it’s covered by her glove most of the time. Like so: sta.sh/017p3pezgv8b

Weapon:

-A durable fan with magic imbued in it as well as a magical incantation written into its folds. It can be used jokingly to hit people but does not do any real damage. Tsuyo dances with the fan but that is purely for performance.

Magic:

Minor wind manipulation; with her fan, Tsuyo has the ability to manipulate wind but it’s mostly utilized to help her escape faster. It’s only strong enough to knock someone as small as her, hardly can be called offensive magic.

Healing; Tsuyo has the ability to heal others via magic but it’s not very strong for serious injuries so she also dedicates a large portion of her time and resources to actual medicine-making.

PERSONALITY:

+ Observant | Easygoing | Clever

She has a watchful eye and tends to analyze a person before she decides to scam them. Her primary targets are always the gullible type, she scopes them out (this does not apply to guildmates). This also extends to examining people's clothing, deducing where they'd keep their coin purse. If the other person is an open book, Tsuyo can pick up cues of their emotions and use it to her advantage. She’s relatively easy to talk to as she’s very nonchalant by nature. She does have a tendency to tease others or even “jokingly” charge fees on them. Cleverness is a part of Tsuyo however it’s only noticeable when she’s up to no good.

= Informal | Crafty | Resourceful

Tsuyo has no reservations, she addresses everyone casually and isn’t afraid of talking back. She’s aware that this does get her in trouble sometimes but she dislikes formalities.  Crafty is what would describe Tsuyo best. She enjoys making things with her hands as well as pickpocketing and swindling. Her favorite things to do are to craft decorative knots and sewing. Due to her interest in crafting, Tsuyo habitually transforms old items into new things so she could sell it. All the purses and pouches she’s stolen has been greatly altered to be sold. She regularly mends her clothes.

- Self-serving | Insincere | Bad Influence

Tsuyo does things for her own interests, often picking the option that would benefit her the most. She weighs the pros and cons of each situation; whichever lets her off the hook is always the better choice. Insincerity attaches itself to Tsuyo as she is a deceitful person, however she's also not very honest with herself. She cannot express affections well, especially to friends. Tsuyo did not have many friends as a child so she doesn’t know how to convey her appreciation so it flusters her a bit. Tsuyo's a bad influence on others since she encourages reckless behavior as long as it doesn't involve her. She would not stop a bar fight because that would be her entertainment. Tsuyo would definitely triple dog dare you.

BIOGRAPHY:

[TLDR: tsuyo was born in a cult town where her family is the head honcho at. The villagers saw tsuyo as something that she wasnt (an extension to the gods; holy messenger). She exploited them for years until things finally blew up in front of her face and they suddenly called for her death. Her family, despite being the leaders of the cult, had good intentions from the beginning about their own beliefs but could not calm the mob quick enough. Her brother loosened her restraints before the promised hour, her execution becoming a staged one in mere moments, and she took the chance to just book it from the village. She ends up getting in trouble for fraud and thievery, running around from the authorities in many towns until she came across Avrys. Exhausted and without resources, she offered her abilities to him--she could heal, cook, and dress wounds; in exchange, he would be her protection during the road. They parted ways a few years before Avrys opened the guild and Tsuyo accidentally came across Guild Valyreus after being rejected by the three different guilds she had applied to before.]

-------

Tsuyo was born in an unnamed village covered in flowers. The vivacious colors and sheer abundance of the beautiful flowers drew in visitors near and far, but never for too long. The locals there would not so subtly try to convert outsiders into their religion, making them participate in rituals of worship as a “tourist experience”. It became very obvious to most that this village is just a huge cult living together, hoping to welcome new devotees into their world. They pray to the flower gods for absolutely everything, from success in their agriculture to wishing for prolonged good health. Despite the fact that no one in the world believes in gods anymore, they are very adamant about their own religion as most of it was passed down from family to family.

At the top of this chain was a single family that maintained the shrine for generations. The family did everything in their power to guide the villagers and spread the teachings of their religion; upright and devoted, the family steadily became associated with the gods, being viewed as messengers or even extensions of the gods themselves. The family did not know how to deal with the idolization and simply allowed it to go on, only refusing special treatment and monetary donations; they figured that the villagers had good intentions but were a bit quick to jump to conclusions but that’s why they were there to guide. They were mostly untouchable, until the fifth child of the shrine made her appearance. Their attention and idolization quickly went to the youngest member of the family; Hatsuyo.

Tsuyo grew up quite unlike her older siblings; actually, she was very much a “normal” child. Her older siblings grew up without any fuss or trouble, maturing rapidly for their ages so her parents did not know how to handle Tsuyo, who exhibited all behaviors of a typical rambunctious child rather than a mini adult. In order to cope with the sudden shift in dynamics, Tsuyo ended up being greatly disciplined and assigned many lessons in hopes to “shape” her into a model shrine maiden. Of course, this only led Tsuyo to resent being restricted and quietly biting back her bitterness. At an early age, Tsuyo was at a loss of how she stood in the world. Outside of the shrine, she was treated with utmost care and respect, eyes glazed with desperation mixed with blind devotion and idolization. Inside the shrine, she was just a neglected child with hands-off parents who didn’t know what a real child behaved like. She found herself to be in the company of the numerous outsiders that came by the village, learning their language and even discovering that she was basically living in a cult (lol) town.

Tsuyo’s behavior became increasingly worrying as the years passed by. She became prone to petty thievery, spreading lies, and other unsavory hobbies. Everything she did kept dragging the family name in the dirt, the pristine image that the villagers had placed onto her came crashing as they realized “oh. what a hideous personality”. Though her antics were mostly harmless (in terms of actually physically injuring people or financially devastating them), the villagers deemed her behavior depraved and quickly turned their backs on her. As quickly as she was viewed as a beloved extension of the gods, she fell from grace in their eyes as they realize she, too, was only a human, riddled with flaws and nefarious thoughts.

The final straw was when an irregular death occurred in the village. It had been a villager who died, but their death was under mysterious circumstances. Everything appeared as if the death was due to murder and not by accident. Fingers pointed at Tsuyo; with all the petty crimes she's committed and the lies she spread, they figured that her havoc wrecking ways would only escalate to this. There was no proof that she had done the deed, but they were all convinced it was her.

They cried for the shrine family to get rid of her, as she was doing nothing favorable for the village but putting them into risk. At first, her family hoped that isolating Tsuyo away from the villagers would appease them and also keep the shrine maiden relatively controlled. The house arrest caused them to become even angrier, believing that this light punishment meant that the family were choosing blood over the gods (how blasphemous). Things escalated so badly that they called for her execution, to "nip the bud before it bloomed". Knowing that the people would not be satisfied by any other means, her family had no choice but to carry out the death sentence on one of their own.

Tsuyo gladly accepted the punishment, satisfied that her ending involved such disdain and hatred yet such unbridled honesty. She was to be dropped into the unforgiving waves of the ocean from a rather treacherous cliff, a popular way to execute criminals in her village. Moments before the promised hour, one of her older brothers wished for a final conversation. With sharp precision and skill, he managed to loosen the restraints on her arms and legs just enough that she could free herself with a bit of strength but enough to appear that she was still securely bound. Confused by the sudden gesture, Tsuyo only stood in silent shock as he quietly tucked in a fan into her robe, gave her head a rough pat, and then pushed her down the cliff without any warning.

Tsuyo was swallowed by the sea but miraculously survived the fall with just small cuts and bruises. Her brother, at the final minute, staged her death. It suddenly made her feel so small; she had been behaving awfully on purpose yet she was still, in a sense, loved? Loved enough to keep alive? She ended up wandering into unfamiliar towns, doing her absolute best to stay alive each day with the limited knowledge she had of the outside world and with the talents she had honed in her village (aka pickpocketing). Tsuyo ended up committing so many robberies that she ended up fleeing to one town to another town. She couldn’t exactly keep up with this new high risk lifestyle, finally reaching a point where she was just… tired. By pure chance, she came across a traveler named Avrys Valyreus--she offered her services to him as a healer and a cook but was actually surprised he accepted. They traveled together for a short period but she realized the two of them were alike in terms of personality than she wanted to admit. The two of them parted ways, Tsuyo wished to continue her own endeavors for a bit before she settled into a “lowkey life” at a guild. Little did she expect that years later and three prior guild rejections, she would end up at her former travel companion’s guild…

EXTRA:

- Learned English from the people on the outside. Most of them were crass and foul-mouthed so Tsuyo pretty much picked up on their vocabulary. There were a few researchers here and there that held intelligent conversations with her and even taught her how to read and write. After being "exiled", she kept up the learning while on the run. surprisingly enjoys learning and is an excellent student.

- The brother who pushed her down the cliff was one of the only siblings Tsuyo considered herself close to. He taught her how to make medicine and how to identify the local plantation in their village. While she remains bitter to her entire family, she does have fond memories of that one brother. His expression as she fell backwards is something she has recurring dreams of.

- Generally prefers to be disliked/hated than to be liked/loved;  believes that if people harbored negative feelings towards her, then those emotions are "genuine" compared to... being liked. Tsuyo gets uncomfortable when someone expresses their fondness to her. she actively behaves awfully on purpose and is aware what a bad person she is; she can't comprehend why one would like her despite all that.

- Despite her lies and frauds, her medicines are actually legitimate and work as intended. She takes great care and time to improve her medicine-making skills. Her scams are usually faking illness for donations and such.

-Rarely wears clothings that reveals her skin not because of modesty, but because she gets cold easily. In the summers, she pulls back her sleeves with a tasuki and wears thinner fabrics. All her clothes are made by her.

-A decent cook, but sometimes it's on the bland side.

-Her village was covered in flowers, so much so that it pretty much was incorporated into the village culture and traditions. From the cuisine to accessories to the offerings given to the flower gods. Tsuyo enjoys discovering flowers and plants to figure out what use she could gain from it.

-Asides from medicine making, Tsuyo makes a lot of accessories and trinkets as a hobby. She also sews (embroidery, actually making clothes, mending, etc) and cleans very well. Most of these are skills she accumulated while living at the shrine. Probably cleans the guild and does their laundry as well.
