Photo by Bob Garlant. Torres del Paine, Chile. I have been amazed at the sheer range of landscapes in Patagonia, often packed into a tiny space. There are snowy peaks, rugged hills, flat plains, dense forest, jungle, dramatic rivers and mile after mile of wild coastline. The thing that amazes me (coming from the UK which has no wilderness) is the sheer emptiness of it. Broad vistas with no houses, roads or power lines in sight. Large parts were still inhabited by hunter-gatherers until the 1960s.
