I Am Now. by FugueState I Am Now. by FugueState
For ~peahopeless's story, Heaven's Pane.

""Are you really ok?" she murmured ... burying into him ... holding the mask so that he could bury likewise into her.

"I am now."

I GOT IT
I GOT IT.

I was just putting it into my printed copy of Heaven's Pane, and I just saw it.
I know what it is that makes me see that he's going out of his way to look eye to eye with her.

It's his collar. It was the drape over the back of his collar that made me see it first. That's the other place that I'm seeing it. It's the fact (like I said above) that it looks like he's just barely sticking his chin forward like one would do to get to the other's eyes ... and it's the drape of his hair over the back of his collar. You can see how his neck is going out of its way in order to get eye to eye with her.

And you know what? That wasn't a conscious choice on my part, that I can remember. Especially since the first version of this drawing didn't have his right arm in the picture at all. Originally, he was just sitting, leaning forward a bit in fatigue while she sat in his lap, and the two of them were looking at each other. The pose evolved on its own into what it is now.

That's so sweet. Poor baby I love him burns or not. Awesome emotion expressed and yes it's hard to express her holding his mask it could be taken that she's taking it off or holding it up. :D I think yah did will knowing the characters.

It's the strap to his mask. In the story, he was injured and the strap to his mask broke. Evey's not just touching his mask; she's helping to hold it on (which I admit, is difficult to express! ^^;)

You rock! :w00t: You definitely get the feel of the height difference. Evey's posture is ram-rod straight, while V's hunching a little to get closer. I'm very short (only five feet tall), and my boyfriend is 6'2". So, yeah, coming from someone with first-hand knowledge, you got the pose down perfectly. :D

Lighting ... I know how that lantern messed with you. And you know what? V approves of how you handled the ... "b" thing. :D

The detail on the mask ties stands out ... almost seems like a parallel to the two tendrils of curls coming down for her.

I note the shine on his glove, in contrast to other clothing ... since glove is leather, obviously, but it does jump out, that difference.

I'll also admit that I love that the noses are just barely not quite touching. It brings them so close, but doesn't make it automatically too standard.

And you know what else ... I get the impression of his height, due to the angle of his head. It's like he's tilting down to be near, yes. But also kind of angling his head just a bit to see her eyes.

And the fact that she's holding the mask in place (which we know, and which is confirmed by the broken ties) ... at first, it comes across as just touching the mask like normal ... caressing the mask. Then it dawns on you what it really is, and combines the two in your head at a much deeper meaning.

ramble off

"'b' thing"... hee. :D

His glove... I might end up changing that. It might be *too* shiny, I dunno yet. I'll have to let the pic sit for a while and think about what it's done before I decide.

>It's like he's tilting down to be near...

*So* very glad I got that to read! :D

>And the fact that she's holding the mask

I do hope that comes across. I'm curious to see if it's obvious to someone who hasn't read the story yet.

>*So* very glad I got that to read!

Yeah. It's not tilted downward quite, it's like what you do when you're trying to get eyelevel with someone shorter. Like sticking your chin forward, but not quite? I don't know, I jsut get that feeling.

Another thing. If we also remember all that timing, and the fact that she hasn't seen his real face yet (well, except for that tiny, badly angled and dark glimpse in Especially) ... hasn't really been able to *look* at him right yet ... ... it means extra that she really doesn't care here. Not only would she not 'accidentally' drop the mask ... she really doesn't care.

(a year later and she still impresses me)
