before you jump the gun into the comments at least take a good 5 minutes to read this box here cause A no. there's no official Fairy Tail game coming out I just want to discuss what people far as the those not in japan requests go and put in what I think would make a great Fairy Tail game.
first and foremost. a lot of you may not have been awhere but back when Fairy was getting to be popular as an anime roughly roughly before or after the Tenrou Island arc Bandai did make a Fairy Tail game for the PSP. basically you got the standard game the attack on titan game was where you pick a character do the specified quest and that'd be it. gameplay wise it wasn't too memorable. apparaently sales for it were so bad there wasn't even a bother for a US English release. just putting this bit of info out there to make sure everyone is on the same page that Fairy Tail has had a game before it just wasn't very popular or too great. this isn't to say they should not try again cause lord knows a lot of anime have tried to be on video games only to have a lot of fails till the right one came out. one example being is the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games that Cyber Connect 2 continues to bring due to the Road to Boruto coming out pretty soon. that's another topic for another time. this topic is strictly Fairy Tail. you want to talk about the Road to Boruto DLC pack hold those thoughts till we are in the right posting for it. Fairy Tail much to Hiro Mashima's credit has been a great and fun series and has been on par even managed to surpass what Rave/Rave Master ended with. not to say it was bad it's just when Hiro did Fairy Tail he really pushed and out did himself in wanting to make a series to succeed and outshine his previous work which is a mindset one must always have. you can enjoy older stuff just always aim to make something that will be better. you know that whole concept of new gen must be able to surpass old gen stuff. with all of Fairy Tail's epicness, tear jerking, and even Sexiness there's plenty of reasons why Fairy Tail has more than earned it's second chance at the video game market especially now that PS4 and Xbox are upgraded to the 4k graphics and able to handle games better supposedly. when you put all this all mind there are so many ways to do a Fairy Tail game justice.
now to my thoughts on what, how, and who should make a Fairy Tail Game. now like with any game based on a franchise it will need it's creators approval. a signed approval to be exact showing he or she supports it. that's how you get fans' attention to the idea. in that way should the creator want to get involved he or she is free to do so much like Kishimoto did for the storm games. next the company I feel could pull this stuff off is CyberConnect2. no offense to square enix or even Marvelous or Atlus but CC2 has proven then can handle a franchise anime based game exceptionally well with only a few things here and there people out as flaws. the team behind the dragonball xenoverse games while I get that would make sense cause they had deals with funimation and all and the xenoverse games were great and all they just don't pack that level of emotion CC2 has pulled off I mean even a stand alone game like Wrath of Asura proved they can make a game fun yet visually amazing to watch.
with the who done let me cover the what. for CC2 and for the fans it would be best to cover things like they did with Naruto and simply go over and cover the Fairy Tail story itself and split it into parts and find stopping points so we know where to expect a sequel to continue from then find the bits from both the manga and anime that should be used as the side story missions/requests to do. that part is simple but making it happen requires effort from a full team.
the how is basically how do we make a Fairy Tail game the best it can be? well here's how. first off Fairy Tail is the world of wizards and all things magic meaning the ninja engine of Naruto will not work obviously so we need a kind of actual free roaming battle system to play and explore all of Flonyard. it can't be slow or something that would require a lot of thought on controls like final fantasy since Fairy Tail being what it is would need something fast paced like I guess Kingdom Hearts 3 is looking to be or Senran Kagura looks to be. play style in my opinion will have to vary from character to character cause unlike how they did in Naruto where yeah they got different play styles but does that really change the fact the button commands are all the same and the character models move and dash in the same? Fairy Tail would need to be very explicit on the fact every character has a unique way of fighting thus leading to different play styles that adhere to their strengths and weaknesses. like for example Natsu, Wendy, and Gajeel as Dragon Slayers need to eat their own element to recover magic, stamina, and such so that there plays as a factor to a strength and weakness to dragon slayers. another example would be Erza where her requip magic will be useful in changing to suit the situation before you but to make a challenge for the player when playing as Erza you will have a 3 requip limit to take with you(max being 5 if you upgrade enough) to give Erza different boosts in her stats. a lot more thought will be needed but I feel this kind of open RPG style would be a great way to get Fairy Tail back on the video market to at least try one more time.
what kind of bonuses should there be? well here's my thought. if this happens then part of the idea can be costume changing. for those who change outfits anyway since Natsu and Gajeel usually stay in the same get up for a good long while although primarily the female cast will change cloths as you can equip them with it. though in Erza's case the costumes mainly serve as actual stat boosters for her requips lol. then should Hiro allow it he can put in some Rave/ Rave Master stuff like giving Natsu, Lucy, Gray, and Erza access to Haru, Elie, Julia, and Musica's costumes. but just to add more the roster we'll let the actual characters be selectable as extras if you complete the extra challenge of finding the 4 Rave stones randomly hidden in Flonyard where depending on which one you find you unlock that specific character from Rave/Rave Master to use in side missions or online play for those side missions where as main story wise you can't use them till you beat that main story mission the first time. now with all that boss battles have to be a big thing and selling point where yes reaction commands will be the big factor in how you win or lose.
now if the first one is successful where I guess we'll say the Edolas Arc will be the first stopping point of game 1 and we go into game 2 where the dragon war/grand wizard games will be the 2nd stopping point of game 2 that will be where more characters will be more available and if you played the first one where just make it so you have to anything and everything you did can be transferred over far as skills, costumes, money, and extra characters such as the Rave team plus just cause I know people enjoyed her a lot Erza Knightwalker will be on the list for you to use. then do the same for when game 3 is released which will cover the rest of the story of Fairy Tail....actually maybe for game 2 the Tartaros arc should be the 2nd stopping point. lol
anyway if you read all this thank you for reading my thoughts on a Fairy Tail video game and would like to hear what you think should be done to make a great Fairy Tail Game especially when the manga looks to be nearing it's end after this war arc is over.
This is all well and good, but here's my thoughts. I like everything you said, but there is one thing that if they out in a FT game, it'll earn instant sales: Character creator. And I'm not talking something like most of the time where you play as canon characters and create your own off to the side, I mean something along the lines of Dragon Ball Xenoverse. If they do that, then it's instant sales. No contest. Hell, I know I would buy it. The ability to create your own character and interact with the canon like Natsu and Lucy is every fan's dream. And a new story past the end would be awesome.
I get what you mean but the problem is that because fairy tail had a game that failed on the market it's not a smart idea to put that on the table without first making something successful to test the waters on how players and fans of fairy tail will enjoy the gameplay. the reason xenoverse made it work so well is cause they had a lot of games over the years where you already played all those famous characters where they felt they reached a point where make your own character was a sell point.
there's a process to all this you gotta work up toward before opening with make your own character as the main gimmick. no point in that if people hate the game and gameplay itself.
I see. Yeah that makes sense. I guess after about two successful games that would work. Maybe someone could start small with it as a fighting game but then expand it go an open world exploration with all your favorite characters.
I feel like it should be done by the same people who did those Naruto games since they tell the story just as well, if not better, than the actual anime and manga.
that's who I recommended. Cyber Connect 2 even when not on Naruto games did amazing work with wrath of asura where a man who's rage is justified for the sake of wanting to save his daughter and avenge the death of his wife.
If they were to make a game with an FT custom character, how would you think that would work out? Not like Xenoverse, but think they could have the possibility of allowing you make a demon character or something like that? With different classes of magic to use. Along with that, there could be choices you could make in their story that test your morals.
that would have to depend on the world expansion since they could influence time travel via eclypse gate for your custom character due to after the canon ending something apocalyptic happened and your mission as a player made character is go back in time to the beginning of it all where you must join the fairy tail guild and prevent the change of certain events that made the future apocalyptic. so you paly through the classic story but from your own perspective as you let your character bond with the fairy tail cast
I like your idea of a possible Fairy Tail game, but I do have one question, is there room to create your own personal mage for the story? Maybe have CC2 get some pointers from the company that did the xenoverse series for customization and unique fighting styles for each class of mages. Even the idea of doing the side missions/quests could even factor easily with a training area to get better at the controls and fighting styles. If they do go with an custom Character in the game, perhaps we could start at the point when the series starts and go from their.
Well those are my thoughts and added ideas right there. Although maybe through the game play, the player will be as Gray and even ask themselves where did his clothes go as an inside joke.
the reason I didn't bring up character customization is due to doing a fairy tail game that focuses on main story for the most part is a kind of testing the waters thing since it'd be pointless to go the extra mile of making a server for that if not enough people like the game that's why as much as I would like t put that in for an idea it's better reserved for a future kind of title.
That sounds fair right there, perhaps in a future game then. Although the training area idea sounds like a good idea right there. Maybe there could be like a special DLC when you preorder and you get something for your avatar for your console or something. The ideas are limitless here.
besides reason character customization worked in xenoverse to the fact that Dragon ball had a lot of games made over the years where you played pretty much as all the DBZ characters so the thought of doing what Xenoverse did was a new way to re-experience it. kind of like if another Naruto storm game comes out then the fans would be open to character customization.
