018. Doma
This is one I've wanted to do justice for a while. Ever since I did this piece in fact: [link] - the final comment is legendary:

"What you did to Doma... He was supposed to look scary."

Doma is supposed to be a terrible, melting dragon god, and it's the final boss of Fire Emblem Gaiden so it's supposed to be scary. But when I look at the sprite, it looks like a gooey unicorn Yoshi.
This time I ditched the sprite and just went nuts on the concept of a melty dragon, and it turned out to be my fave piece so far!

its amazing how people thought he was a slime monster but not a dragon >w>echoes cleared that up~

The original sprite is very definitely a bit goopy. If you're just looking at screenshots, rather than diving into Japan only story lore, I can see why it'd be easy to make that mistake

Worst part about the original game was Mega Quake >w> Last chapters was test of pure Gaiden bs.

So a Remake for Fire Emblem Gaiden has been released for the 3DS and they pretty much toned the design down for Duma/Doma, he no longer looks like he's melting.

Aye, he looks pretty boring in Shadows of Valentia. 'Flesh melting off' Duma beats 'slightly tattered' Duma IMHO.

Fantastic artwork of the endboss with the most unusual look-like for a FE game.. And with the most interesting story imo.

Thank you. I was aiming for a lot of gross, melty detail rather than trying to mimic the FE style (mainly to make up for an older version I drew where he looked like a cyclops Yoshi)...

when I first saw the original sprite of Doma, he looked like the offspring of Cthulhu and Crocomire (Metroid). And if Doma was real, his roar would probably sound like Lavos's scream mixed with the Martian Tripod sound, and a bit of Godzilla mixed in.

He also seemed to accept his defeat with no anger or malice towards Alm whom stabbed him with the Falchion and just gave a warning not to awaken him or Mila from their slumber ever again. Interesting.

Despite his terrifying appearance, I'm not sure Doma was supposed to be insanely evil, just a god of power. And power corrupts, which probably explains this appearance.
So in defeat he had to accept power could be overcome by... whatever Mila was goddess of... wisdom or something... and so just bowed out in defeat.
His appearance belies a noble dragon heart, I guess.

He's dark, not evil. Like, in Fire Emblem Thracia 776, Salem uses Dark Magic, and he is an enemy. But he's not evil. He joins your party as he reconsiders his actions.

Well, In its defense, its Sprite Animations did showcase that fact that it was suppose to be a creepy abomination. Moving eye and all.

if Fire Emblem Gaiden ever gets remade, Doma must look as Nightmare Fuel-ish as this.

That's kinda what I was thinking while drawing it... If they remade Gaiden, what changes would they make to make it fit the later FE games.
Not that I'm any good at them, but I do like the fantasy designs
