Nintober 003. Jinbe

EDIT: From Nintobervilltch 2008, the progenitor for my annual Nintober project. Back then I only sketched 11 Nintendo villains rather than 31 monsters. It's 2012 and I'm redoing the old artwork and dragging them into the new template to make it one continuous project, if you like!

003. Jinbe from Mole Mania

Jinbe doesn't really fit the modern Nintober "scary monster" theme, but I decided against cutting him out. These things happen as projects develop, right?

I got a chance to play it through the 3DS and this stupid farmer is tough to beat in the bonus levels.
fryguy64's avatar
Such a good game. Those bonus levels are a pain though!

Did you download Mole Mania on the Nintendo 3DS eShop? I did, it's awesome!
fryguy64's avatar
No, I just whip out my original copy if I want some awesome puzzlin' action :D
PaperMatt202's avatar
I'd buy it anyway, just to give Nintendo my money for such an awesome, underrated game!

looks like a gnome to me!

Angry farmers tend to look like gnomes ;)

I probably do know it, and would know it if I saw it, but off the top of my head I'm drawing blanks. ^^;

Exellent job. :D I love obscure Nintendo villains. I remember seeing him in the issue #93 (Febuary 1997, I think, that's old) issue of Nintendo Power, in the Mole Mania stredgey arctical. That arctical always made me curious & interested in the game, I wish I played it. I love puzzle/action games.

Come to think of it, he does kinda look like Foreman Spike. (Or at least how I imagined him. I didn't like his redesign in "Wrecking Crew '98.")

Thanks! :)

Agreed on WC98 (see above - which I wrote before reading your comment) ;)

Well, there's a few obscure villains in my list to look forward to! Jinbe's one of the most obscure there - despite being from an international release.

Yeah, plus Spike's 8-bit sprite looks more like it has a beard to me, (and a scowl) so I never got why the WC98 one looked so different.

And no kidding, characters from Japan-onley releases seem to be more familier to people then these characters.

So Foreman Spike has a relative...

Because that's who I thought this was at first.
fryguy64's avatar
Aha, but that suggests he's also related to Wario, as that's the common similarity argument (although... I suspect most people use the awful WC98 design to argue that)...

Damn. If it wasn't for you, Fry, I'd have never played Mole Mania. Quite a good game. Very brain-bending...
fryguy64's avatar
I don't think I've ever beaten the game, despite many many many attempts. It just gets so difficult - and I REFUSE to use a guide!

AWESOME! I wonder... With the coming of the DSi and talk of douwnloadable games for it, will they re-release Mole Mania?
fryguy64's avatar
Until we find out if their downloadable games include a Virtual Console service on DS, then we can only hope!
FlintofMother3's avatar
Ah! Jinbe I always wondered why Mole mania doesn´t even get cameos. Strange for a game created by RD1.
fryguy64's avatar
It's sooo good! I don't understand its complete lack of recognition. It may have done really badly in Japan due to being released immediately after the original Pokémon games, which was a bad piece of timing ;)

Still, all of my ideas for games that should come to the DS have come true, except Mole Mania...

nice! I too never heard of jinbe:P to be honest i never played mole mania :shame:
