Actually, the name of the .psd file is "Dragon-Fairy-Knight."

*UNORIGINAL*

But at the last minute I came up with a name. Also, I am amazingly tired of this piece. Whew! I'm glad it's done, but it could use a lot more refinement.

In my original sketch, the dragon was quite potbellied, but all things considered I figured he'd be more imposing if I put him on a diet (and added spines and scales and stuff. You know.)

This is a commission for Nathan. Crit is appreciated, since good references went a long way toward faking my dragonDrawingSkeelz (and they are fake! xDxD I assure you of this.)

Oh jeez, didn't realize I hadn't commented on this one.

I love the poses here - the whole thing looks almost like a tense negotiation in the aftermath of a fierce battle.  The smoke is a nice touch - I think the dragon is trying to decide if they can set the warrior on fire before she gets stuck in with her sword.  Very nicely done.

Gah that smoke and that fire and that everything... <3 Beautiful work, Crystal. I can't really say anything useful as a critique. xD It's just a really lovely picture.

But your DragonColouringSkeelz are the real deal! I can't critique much except to say that that is a really nice colour scheme.

Gorgeous. I love the lighting, it's very dramatic. The scene is set up very well too... it's almost like they're all taking a breather from the fight by unspoken agreement, waiting for the other party to start the attack again.

I like the way the dragon frames this picture. The great curving lines formed by the edges of his neck and his wings at the top of the composition give the piece a lot of dynamic movement. I also like the way you juxtaposed and contrasted the bright blues and the bright reds in this piece - and the burning shrubbery is great because it sort of tells a story that suggests the dragon had tried to use his fire-breath to defend itself (but now all he can do is breathe smoke).

My criticism is that the longer I look at the dragon's pose, the stranger it looks to me... I really like the angle of the head shown in this picture, how it's sort of a view from the underside. But then the front of the dragon twists around and is facing the viewer... and then the hindquarters and tail have twisted again and the viewer is looking at the back side of the dragon's spine. While individually these component views are well drawn and are visually interesting, when you string them all together in one body it come across a bit twisty-back-and-forward-awkward. Maybe that's why the curvature of the neck as it joins the body looks a little laboured as it makes an abrupt bend to fit onto the front-facing shoulders.

But I reckon you did really well with painting the dragon, anyway. The head looks awesome and menacing, the wings are tattered just enough to look cool, and those scales look so shiny, dark and blue like they have a kind of chrome metallic shininess. And I love the way you constructed the atmospheric background scenery for this. To me it looks confidently done, even if you were sick of looking at this piece by the time you finished.

Ahh, you are -completely- right! I barely noticed that (or maybe I just hoped no one else would see it)!

But thank you anyway, for scrutinizing it closely enough to see. :3

Wow! The lighting is dramatic, the poses are dynamic and beautiful, the colour scheme is gorgeous and everything is drawn beautifully. Incredible work.

Also, dragon. <33

Wow, I really love this :D You have such a wonderful sense of color and lighting! As far as dragon anatomy goes, the top (his left) arm feels strangly high. I feel like it should be a little lower, like the other arm, or we should see some of the shoulder where it comes from. Other than that, it's pretty nice. The head could use some tweaking, but it's not bad.

Only thing oerall is that while I like it, i would love to see you go into some of your pieces and do some super refinement :3 some more defined edges might make the work start to feel more finished.

Hooray! Thanks a ton for the crit, I totally appreciate it.

I definitely agree on the refinement thing; you're not the first to say so! I think I seem to have a fear of overworking the drawing, even though I know in my head it'll turn out for the better. Where do you think it could use more work?
