If you have a Wacom digital tablet, and you use it a lot, you may occasionally encounter unexpected problems. Have your brush dynamics stopped working? Is your screen mapping incorrect (cursor does not reach all fours edges of display area)? Do you experience intermittent cursor movement or none at all? Do you suffer from unexpected clicking? For Intermittent cursor or unexpected clicking, jump to step 4. Otherwise let's start with some simple steps that often help.

1) The simplest thing to try is to reboot your computer (and also restart your drawing program.)

2) If any new software was recently installed, it might be causing a conflict. Did the symptoms begin on the same day the new software was installed? Try uninstalling the new software and rebooting.

3) The next step is to uninstall and reinstall the Wacom drivers. Uninstall ALL tablet drivers including drivers for previous tablets. Previous drivers can cause conflicts. Disconnect your tablet and reinstall the correct drivers. Be sure to follow manufacturer instructions, and do not reattach the device prematurely. You can also check the Wacom website for newer drivers.

4) try plugging it into a different USB port on your computer
Sometimes USB ports can go bad if they are constantly stressed by moving cables. Even if the USB port is okay, sometimes unplugging and plugging into  another port will force your computer to recognize the device.

5) If your tablet stops and starts working intermittently... Inconsistent cursor movement, unexpected clicking can be the result of broken wires inside the tablet cord (or in the USB port in newer models). The wires inside the plastic cable (or the wiring in the port) can become damaged from pulling twisting and regular use, even if the plastic casing seems perfectly fine. Damage is most likely to occur where the cable connects to the tablet. If you use something about the size of a popsicle stick or ball point pen and some tape to completely immobilize the cable at the connection point so it cannot bend or twist, you may be able to prevent or minimize the problem before the damage make the tablet unusable. Cables can also be replaced, but consult your manufacturer about prices and warranty coverage. Remember that attempted home replacement may void your warranty if you have one. (This journal entry was written in 2012. Newer tablets may have a detachable USB cord/port which is similarly fragile)

6) Please do not ask for troubleshooting advice here. If you are experiencing other problems or if the problem persists after you try the suggestions listed here, please contact wacom customer support or explore the Wacom forums: or search the Internet for your symptom and possible solutions.

Hello everyone.

Hello everyone! I use a bamboo model on a mac. The cth-470.

Sometimes the tablet works just fine. But it also tends to invert the pressure randomly (it happens with all art programs hence the reason I know it's the tablet). Say pressing hard gives me thin lines when it should give me thicker lines and vice-versa. And then it comes back to normal, randomly, so that's another reason I know it's not a setting, but some kind of bug or hardware issue.

The sensibility also weakens randomly,  and I'm forced to make the pen more sensible in settings. But that's not that big of a problem, I guess.

Randomly it works just fine.

I won't complain as the guarantee expired years ago. But I just want to know if it's a driver issue or if it's a hardware malfunction so I can focus on buying a new tablet or a new pen,  and stop wasting time installing and reinstalling the drivers. Thank you

I know I shouldn't really post a help comment but I do need a little help here

I've had this intuos pt small for 2 years and 6 months now, and suddenly it'll randomly stop responding to touch and pen, and when this happens I usually have to unplug the USB, and also reset the drivers when I plug it back in. This has been happening for about 3 weeks now. What should I do?

Reads the last paragraph in journal, which says you shouldn't comment here asking for help.

Leaves a comment asking for help anyways.

I have a wacom intuos draw and when I make a line in an art program, there is a delay for when the line actually starts
I restarted the tablet driver and my computer several times and I tried a different port, but the problem still didn't go away, any other solutions?
FriendlyHand Featured By Owner May 3, 2018  Professional Digital Artist
What are your computer specs, and your operating system?
Any other symptoms like a ring around the mouse pointer when you start to draw?
dead-fingers Featured By Owner May 4, 2018  Hobbyist Digital Artist
well, now it's working again, turns out I had an old driver that probably had troubles with windows updates
I have windows 10 and I haven't really noticed any other symptoms other than the delay, but as I said, the driver was the problem
thanks for helping :D

hey mirira, would you like to tell me how you fixed the problem? i have the same exact problem, and i've tried to fix it but i haven't found a solution yet. i can't draw anything with my intuos draw because of it, and it's seriously wrecking my nerves. ):
dead-fingers Featured By Owner May 11, 2018  Hobbyist Digital Artist
oh sure! i went to the wacom website to look at some help with tablet issues and downloaded the driver again
turns out mine was outdated so that's why it had the line delays
you just open the driver after and it reinstalls the new things or something that you need for it to work
if it won't work for you here then maybe try asking for help on the wacom website

what do I do if, when I make a brushing movement on my tablet... it comes out as though I just drew with my mouse? the mouse is a bit delayed on art programs but my nan's laptop has a virus detector and it didn't start like this when she first downloaded it to her laptop... I have reset the laptop multiple time, taken out the USB and back in afterwards but nothing... and it's on all the art programs I have (SAI, Manga Studio 5, CLIP STUDIO PAINT, and MS Paint)

I have an intous 5 touch, and at times it believes the stylus is still on the tablet surface, so the size of my pen will go wack/it'll drag the pen making fine wisps/dragging a new tab. I'm not sure if it's due to the age of the tablet or the cord is having issues.

Hello! I have a Wacom Intuos Draw. The last day I was using it to animate on Adobe Flash CS6.
It was probably 1 or 2 AM when I when to bed. The next day I opened my computer, plugged in my tablet and it did not turn on. Since 25 of December my tablet would not turn on.
I actually bought a new tablet (A Genius i405 X) so I could draw, but the problem whit my Wacom Tablet keep me puzzled, and I could not draw, I when trough and art block, and I still am on art block.
I have checked that the cable of the table is alright, I have installed and uninstalled the drivers, an also begged my mom a new computer, at that time we though it was my computer, but still, nothing.

I have contacted Wacom and told my problem, but they said ''If the LED light of your tablet is not turning ON, and already checked if the cable is not the problem, contact where you bought your tablet.''.

Like I said before, I cannot draw in my new tablet, I'm so sad that I don't know what happen to my Wacom, that the motivation to draw just did not come to me.

Is this a problem that happens a lot? Or is just that I'm really lucky?:).
Please, reply the fastest you can!.

I have a Wacom Intuos 5 Touch (small). I've had it since 2013, and it's worked great all this time until recently. A couple months ago it started not turning on when I plugged it in, or just having a single blinking light. At first I would just unplug it and plug it back in, and usually it would work after the 2nd or 3rd try. But then it started being laggy as well as not turning on more and more often. I figured my drivers were out of date, so I installed the latest drivers, and that seemed to fix things for a little while.

Now, I don't know what to do. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers several times, I've tried different usb ports on my computer, I've restarted my computer over and over, and nothing seems to work longer than a couple minutes. Most of the time my tablet won't even turn on, or it just has a single blinking light no matter how many times I unplug it and plug it back in. On the rare occasion that it actually turns on, it's either super laggy and weird, or it works fine for a minute or two before becoming completely unresponsive.

I'm trying to figure out if it's all an issue with my cord, the drivers, or the tablet itself, so I can know what needs replacing or fixing. I don't want to have to buy a whole new tablet if it's not necessary.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This problem usually happens with everyone I've noticed. It's happened to me twice. The first time my tablet was still under warranty so we sent it back to a factory for it to be replaced. The second time I didn't want to go through the hassle of that and I hadn't been sure if the tablet still had it's warranty. The problem is actually the port on the tablet, not the computer. After a while, the cord will mess with the wires inside and there is pretty much not a lot to fix it. It's a flaw in the model. If your tablet came with, or you are able to get the wireless pack for the tablet, it will help your problem tremendously. Though the way you would charge the battery would have to be different because of the broken port you would usually use to charge it. If you get a universal battery charger and plug the battery into that and plug the charger in a wall, it will charge it for a few hours then it can be ready to use. Hope this helps your problem!
(P.S. This is the universal battery pack charger that I bought.…. Though, you can probably find some that are a bit cheaper, this one is $9. When you do get the charger, to charge the battery, just slide the bottom slider down and put the two stick things into the negative and positive ports, not the middle one.)

My wacom tablet ruined my mousepad/mouse clicks, I can't drag, I can't right click normally to keep the right click settings up (have to double right click to keep it there), my mouse sometimes disappears on my screen and doesn't work and can't be seen unless I press the mission control button on my mac, why is this?

It's like a delay and it makes it next to impossible to connect lines.
Anyone have a fix for this yet?

Hello! With my wacom tablet when Im on a browser such as google chrome me just putting my pen to the surface of t he tablet and moving it is causing it to scroll the page, but previously i had to press a button on my pen then do it for it to scroll. I dont know what I might have installed to cause a conflict with it because it happened before I started to install stuff on my new laptop.

Check your preferences - if you installed an art program like corel or sai(others may cause it) then they may have changed the setting.

This is a windows update issue.  It is addressed at  What a pain!  The long and short of it is, they've changed the behaviour for legacy Win32 apps.  Why they didn't work this out with PS CC prior to releasing it is beyond me.  Anyway, go to Command Prompt, and paste this in the line - "reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pen /v LegacyPenInteractionModel /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f".  Hit enter, and you're good to go.  Keep this line in a document, because, knowing microsoft, you'll need it again.

My intuos worked fine, but yesterday when I tried to use the online drawing program that I use: , my intuos pen could move the cursor and everything but when I tried to draw with the pen on it wouldn't let me unless I pressed and held the top button that is located on the pen, I tried this on as well and it still wouldn't let me draw, what should I do?
I-am-Ayla-Cat Featured By Owner Jan 19, 2018  Student Digital Artist
There are many things to check with this. For starters, try a different browser - chrome no-longer offers support for a lot of things within programs that use adobe flash, and the new program used to run online programs that used to use flash may not be compatible. Also, contacting the creator of the software and inquiring about the issue can be useful - if the program was recently updated, the developer may have changed the compatibility. Also, check your settings for your tablet. Any updates to the wacom drivers, or recently installed programs, can change the settings for the pen's buttons.

I have a wacom intuos comic, and everything was working fine for a year until today, when I tried to plug in the cord (that came with the tablet) into the spot on the top of the tablet, it was somehow loose? The hole was too big for the cord..? I tried turning it around and plugging it in both ways, on both sides, but it's still too loose. The last time I used it was about a week ago, and it worked fine then.

When in my country, at 25th December 2017 in Malaysia, my parents have bought me a new wacom intuos. My wacom intuos first worked fine for a few days, however in the 30th December 2017, an app of the wacom company randomly popped out of nowhere.I was bewildered at first, but I realized it was just an update. However, when I updated my wacom, It only told me to restart, but when my computer booted up, my wacom started blinking for minutes. It was it's original blue status colour that was blinking. But now, my wacom could not work! (It is still currently blinking right now).

You could try uninstalling the drivers and the reinstalling the old ones. Then disable automatic updates for your tablet.  You can find more specific instructions in your users manual or with a google search.

Hello everybody! I have a Wacom Intuos CTL-490, bought it today to design logos, works fine, but my entire screen flickers when I press a couple of buttons on this external device, like it flickers in a way that the screen gets a darker gradient for a split second, only happens when I press a few buttons on the device. I have a MacBook Pro 2017 with 2 USB C ports, and funnily enough I use a Samsung USB C to Regular USB convertor for this to plug it into my laptop. Could it be the Samsung convertor? Or just the actual device itself?

Ok, I installed an att 3 days ago and now my tablet it's not working.
I have an Intuos Draw CTL 490, already unistalled and reinstaled the driver, but when I did this
the white light starter to blink - it blinks like 3 times and then it turns off.
I also tried to test another usb cable and I still have the problem,
do someone know if my tablet is dead or it's a problem with the driver/cable/usb port?
FriendlyHand Featured By Owner Dec 12, 2017  Professional Digital Artist
I don't know what an att is. Please try your tablet on another computer. Also google search your specific problem.
ohmyjaded Featured By Owner Dec 15, 2017  Hobbyist General Artist
sorry about the "att" I meant to say "atualization"
and I searched a lot on google already, but didn't find a specific solution for it.
But, luckly, I solved it already: had to format my computer and reinstal the windows.
Thanks anyway.
