Journey To Another World

Liverpool, 1913. A family arrives off the train to head over to the Cunard pier at the docks for the next, and biggest stage of their journey; for they were emmigrating for a new life in southern Canada. They would be travelling second class on the ship that would take them there; The Cunard Line's pride and joy, the RMS Lusitania.

Although the White Star Line's RMS Olympic was bigger, the Lusitania was still the most popular liner going with the passengers owing to her fabulous interiors and impressive speed. Like her sister RMS Mauretania, she was significantly faster than anything the rival shipping lines could offer. She could cross the North Atlantic in just under five days, thanks to the ship's 68,000 horse power engines would allow the ship to thunder along at over 25 knots. This was enough to win back the coveted 'Blue Riband' for Great Britain.

Today of course the Lusitania is long gone, but there is no denying she was one of the most amazing vessels of her time. So that's why I finally decided to do this picture!
