"The enemy Pokémon's move lost all its PP due to the grudge!"
This is an illustration I did for Game-Art-HQ's Pokémon Generation 3 collaboration - and boy is it busy already with people sweeping in for spots! Both of their previous projects were great fun to be a part of and so fun to see everyone's interpretations of various moves, so I felt very happy to go in again and see what I can send in for those first seen in the Hoenn region! If you're interested, there's a journal right here:
Our POKEMON Generation III Tribute (172/270)I've illustrated a lot of different Pokémon across all 3 tributes, and with Dusclops I have now managed to illustrate all 18 types at least once, finally finding a way to illustrate a ghost type - and with that many illustrations, somehow sharing a page in the tribute with shinragod was inevitable as well! Dusclops is by far the meatier of the new ghosts that debuted in this generation, having a steep 130 points each for its physical and special bulk; and further capped with its immunity to Normal and Fighting type moves, it's one that has a very good amount of resistance. Though fun fact - it wasn't until recently that I realized the circular thing on its head wasn't a jewel but an actual eye, which for some reason I thought were hidden underneath its teeth. I really should've figured the reasoning behind Dusclops's name... xD
Like announced, we start our Pokemon Generation III earlier than the previous 2 and you can claim your first pick right now!
The rules are for the most part the same as last year.
We illustrate the Pokemon without a background and use the .png format for them, so we have a transparent bg. The main theme is also to illustrate each Pokemon while it is performing one of its attacks, moves, abilities. Similar as in the 3 examples from last year.
The moves don't have to be from Generation III but since we are tributing Gen III, it would be awesome if you can pick a Gen III move or ability.
Here is a list of all Gen III Moves: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Category:Generation_III_moves
Every artist can pick up to four Pokemon but only one at a time.
We got the previous two Art Collaborations done before Christmas and I hope we will be able to publish the Gen III Tribute again at Xmas.
If you pick a Pokemon today
This generation also added some cool new status techniques particularly for the Ghost and Dark types, though one of the more lethal ones especially in competitive play is Grudge; you use it, and if the Pokémon's following move knocks you out, all of its PP will get depleted. Good luck trying to sweep your Absol through Phoebe's army in Pokémon Emerald
; her Banette would like to mess you up real bad with this technique...!
Interestingly, the inspiration I had for the pose's position was the cut Maria Robotnik death scene from Shadow the Hedgehog
of all places - it's felt the impact of a move, can't do any more and would just be left to helplessly fall to the floor. But I did however want to surround it with eerie glowing purple fireballs just like those in the game, and a good time to experiment with GIMP's equivalent to Photoshop's Liquefy tool for the fun flame shapes that would emerge from it, ready to sink into the attacker's soul. And once I understood where its actual eye was, I then thought "that's it, I'm giving this eye a blackened bloodshot look" - and I honestly think it hit the painful feel very well! You can see the sketch version as an entry in my 365 sketch challenge for 2018 from a few weeks back as well.
