Self portrait with elephant ears

Artist statement

Since I was a child I have always had the need to express myself through drawing, as if it were an innate need, the only way to be able to communicate with the world. I attended art school learning various drawing and painting techniques, preferring pastels and acrylics. These two techniques in particular fascinate me more than the others because they allow not only to make the chromatic variations more vibrant and lively but also, thanks to their materiality, to enrich the work and make it alive through material and energetic signs.

Subsequently, I then expanded my views and artistic techniques, experimenting in the use of digital. I really enjoy experimenting with this new frontier of art, as fascinating as it is still cryptic and with infinite possibilities. The glitch effect, the pastel and phosphorescent colors take me back to the 90s and 2000s, the time of my early childhood. A kind of "pre-history" of my personal artistic experiences.

In my work there is a mixture of imagination, fantasy, irony and torment at the same time, which create a continuous fluctuating descent and ascent towards opposing emotions and thoughts.

I deal with different themes, ranging from more personal themes such as love, fear of death and loneliness, recurring nightmares. I believe that art is a great form of personal purification, of catharsis, and that therefore it is absolutely necessary to represent also disturbing or aesthetically unpleasant subjects, to let out negative energy and transform it into something else. It is fundamental to pose problems in art, whether they are of an aesthetic, moral, social nature, etc.

The work of art that only says "how beautiful, it's magnificent" is limited and limiting.

I often focus on current issues, social criticism, visionary reworking of reality. To give an example, the elephants that I often represent are inspired by one of the masters of the "Outsider" art that I admire and respect, Giovanni Cammarata, and that I have reworked in various personal reworkings, making them almost anthropomorphic animals that are the symbol of 'Art itself, in my city but also in the whole world. They are the symbol of Art, of the energy that wants to get out of what keeps it trapped. From social and urban decay, from poverty, from insensitivity, from mental closure.

I really like collaborating with other artists and I believe in exchange and cooperation between people who above all have a common intent.

I finished Murtagh in just four days! I never thought I would be able to read a new book from the Inheritance Cycle after so many years since the release of the last book... it was like going back at least twenty years. But now the problem is waiting for the new story....😢😢😢📚 Did you read Murtagh?
