You can really feel the adventure beginning in this one! They are like a female version of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser [link] (check the link if you don't know who they are).

"Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser" oh!!! That rings a long lost bell!!! Yes, I know the name!!! But it is soooo long ago it is buried in the mist of past memories... I have a very strong feeling I have a graphics novel from Mignola somewhere in my, erm... not so small collection... ;)

They were two sword-and-sorcery heroes created by Fritz Leiber (1910–1992). He wanted to create "heroes" that were easier to identify with than the "all powerful" Conan, for example. Fafhrd is a 7 foot tall barbarian and Mouser is a small thief who was a former wizard's apprentice. Leiber's tales of their adventures were reprinted in seven collections in 1968 and 1970 and may still be available, although they are unfortunately, out of print.

1 Swords and Deviltry (1970) by Fritz Leiber
2 Swords Against Death (1970) by Fritz Leiber
3 Swords in the Mist (1968) by Fritz Leiber
4 Swords Against Wizardry (1968) by Fritz Leiber
5 The Swords of Lankhmar (1968) by Fritz Leiber
6 Swords and Ice Magic (1968) by Fritz Leiber
7 The Knight and Knave of Swords (1988) by Fritz Leiber

There were several comic and graphic novel adaptions of the stories by DC, Epic (drawn by Mignola) and Dark Horse. I read all the stories many years ago and I hope someone will make them available again. They are real treasures.

how long does something like that take to render?

Thanks. The final rendering took about 4 hours including about 1 hour for the global illumination prepass. Rendersize is 3000x4000 pixels and it was rendered on a 3,4 GHz P4 with 2 gig RAM :phew:

not bad. only 2GB ram. which rendering engine? the lighting is really handled nicely.

i've been looking into 64bit XP so i can have processes using more than 2gb per (windows 32bit limitation). of course, i need the 64 bit version of vue and carrara. my maya (unlimited) already comes with the 64 bit version so i'm cool there. not even sure if poser has a 64bit version but i'm not seeing that firefly is a great rendering engine anyway. too slow with lighting.

i thought of 64bit vista, but the DRM and the fact the OS takes so much of the gpu for itself means that 64bit XP probably runs faster.

i use distributed rendercows in vue. i find the athlon64 does very well although the couple of dual cores in my farm are slightly faster.

i wish i had a linux cow. maya's rendernodes support linux, i'm tempted to stack some cheap a64's and make a little render farm.

really pays off for animations.

...only 2 GB since the PC is 2.5 years old and 64-Bit was not really supported at that time but 64-Bit C4D is already available but I wait with the next PC until nice Intel QuadCore PCs are avaialable.

The rendering engine is C4D's advanced renderer 2.5.

Network rendering is supported, I also have a 3 PC-render license but as you said it is more useful for animations...
