Hello everyone!

If you noticed my lack of new Transformers art and it's because of my day job as a grade school teacher so i rarely get enough free time to do new TF art and post it here in DA. Hope that you guys bear with me.

With that out of the way, i'd like to ask you guys a favor. Could you help me come up with a character/personality type for my proposed sixth Dinobot STOMP? We all know the Dinobots and their specific character traits. Grimlock is the big kid in the schoolyard and thinks he's the king and the coolest. Snarl the hot tempered kid who always picks a fight with the big kid. Sludge the lazy, simple minded and contented kid. Snarl the emo and loner kid who doesn't want to be bothered and Swoop who wants everyone to be friends. With this in mind, what character trait should i give STOMP? Should he be the hyper active kid, kinda like an ADD type or something else?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and i'll try to post new TF art as soon as i can.
Hi!

With Action Comics 1000 and his 80th year anniversary, my feelings about his classic costume resurfaced since Brian Michael Bendis and DC Comics returned the character to that goofy red trunks look to celebrate his milestone. So i asked a deviant named umbatman to redesign a tasteful and cool Superman costume that reflects the times yet keeps the core essence of the character intact and he came up with not just one but five cool looking designs and that was impressive, considering he's not a big fan of Superman.

Let's just hope that DC will change their mind and POV and move the character and his mythology forward with the times. That goofy classic costume design only reinforces the notion to Marvel fans and non comicbook people that DC is the home of "Your grandparent's superheroes" and why some people find Marvel characters more cooler i think. They have this thinking that superheroes wearing trunks over pants is goofy and dated and not cool and yeah i can totally agree. From a design standpoint, it's impractical and a fashion eyesore. So i hope that to my deviant followers who are fans of the character that you don't take this redesign attempt as an affront but rather as a way to evolve the character with love and care.

Any worthwhile concept and IP has to move with the times to remain relevant and not be forgotten. Adapt or perish. That's a fact of life. If Superman's contemporaries like Captain America and Wonder Woman have gained renewed popularity and acceptance thru various media like movies, cartoons and games and have moved with the times, then why can't the very first superhero yes? I think it's a disservice to the character if this attitude of ICONIC REVERENCE hampers in the way of much needed character development and evolution to the character just because he has worn that classic costume for so long, that the DC creatives don't want to progress the character for fear of backlash from fanboy purists. Because in their minds they think that it's "sacrilegious" to tamper with his design, never mind that it's goofy and dated. And fanboys come up with the stupid excuse of "Real men wear trunks". Oh really? Why don't you try doing what you've just said and tell me if it doesn't feel silly and embarrassing?!" It's this narrow and closed off mindset that irks me and will be the death of characters like Superman.

Anyways, please do check out umbatman's DA page and spread the Superman design post to your fellow deviants and friends. He will greatly appreciate all that support and hopefully this will get DC's attention. If not, at least we've tried and that's all anyone can do.

Megatron (Ultima)
This is Megatron's final form after Vanquish Prime (The Fallen) was defeated. You could look at this as him being freed from the Galvatron reformatting that he got and reverting back to his old form, only more meaner and tougher. I decided to go with rendering him green because of his vehicle mode and i was inspired by the 80's Marvel comics Transformers and a Megatron toy with that same color scheme. Vehicle mode is the M1A2 Abrams battle tank.

Optimus Prime (Primera)
This is Optimus Prime's reawakened form after his battle with Megatron. I chose this specific International truck because i wanted to go with a trailer truck that is not a flat front and i liked the front grill of this particular truck and am a big fan of M.A.S.K.'s Rhino truck so there you go.

Windcharger
My take on this rather interesting character. He's still reckless and impulsive as he was in Generation One. I just changed his head design a bit and gave him a shoulder cannon and a handgun that generates wind blasts to fit with his name and personality. Vehicle mode is the LEXUS LC 500.

Hey Fred! It's been a while since you and I had a little chat. I've been busy with school and stuff but the thing I wanted to tell ya here is that I was partly inspired by you to create my own Transformers universe. I loved how creative you are with your designs as well as the bios of your characters so I thought I would give the whole universe thing a good ol' try.

Here's some of the things I got so far:
Transformers Renegades: The Story
Transformers Renegades: Magnus
Transformers Renegades: Signal Lancer (Spotlight)
Transformers Renegades: Blurr's Story
Transformers Renegades: Starscream

The whole point of the Renegades universe is to take some obscure things from Transformers media and combine that with some of the mainstream stuff. For example, Signal Lancer is a bot from the Unicron Trilogy's Transformers Cybertron. Criticism is always welcome because I am always looking for ways to improve. Have a good one! :D (Big Grin)

Hi Drew!

Glad to hear that! I know that the whole Transformers franchise started with the classic 84 tv show but look at what the other Transformers shows did to the particular brand since then. Beast Wars, Armada, Cybertron, Universe, Animated, Prime they've all added things to the overall lore and mythos of the franchise and that's a good thing. It keeps the brand fresh and relevant even the divisive Bayverse movies.

As for you creating your own Transformers universe, here's some advice. Do whatever feels right, natural and true to you. If it's G1 then that. If it's Armada then go. If it's something else or you want to combine elements from all those Transformers cartoon shows then go for it. The only hard and fast rule is that whatever you decided to do, you should keep the core elements of the overall mythology intact and keep it consistent and don't overcomplicate things. Try to stay true to the core essence of the franchise and you won't go wrong.

Also, do look at not just Transformers stuff for inspiration. You'll be surprised to hear this but when i was designing my Transformers OC's particularly Vanquish Prime (The Fallen) i didn't necessarily rely on an existing Transformers cartoon series, comicbook storyline or a particular game as my inspiration. Believe it or not, i based my design of Vanquish from Ares of God of War and partly the faceless knight with glowing red eyes from Warcraft. So you need not stick to just Transformers stuff for inspiration. You can go to other sources like movies, anime, games or whatever and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I've got a few OC's:
Lego Transformers Renegades: Highrise
Lego Transformers Renegades: Engine Block
Lego Transformers Renegades: Hailfire
Transformers Renegades: Spyshot and Brightpoint

I also thank you for the advice you've given me, and I will most certainly make good use of it the next time I need a brand new character. The thing I always loved about Transformers as a whole is how diverse it really is. Whether it be G1,IDW,etc even cameo bots seem to have some really good aspects to them. It's just with all those personalities it's really not that hard to pick out one that is really relatable in some fashion. Again, I really must thank you for giving me some advice on what I could do with this little project. have a good night and thanks so much! Hug

Well they did kinda "pirate" or incorporate other toys from existing toylines, notable examples being Jetfire from the Macross anime and toyline, Inferno and Devastator. They weren't original Transformers toys and yet somehow they found a way to make them work.

Yeah it helps to be creative and flexible and not be boxed in when coming up with original concepts and ideas and it's an approach that has helped me tremendously time and time again.

No problem and you're welcome! I just love artists/creatives when they do things that are not usually the norm. Just keep doing what you do. :)

Agreed. I think that's the thing that most people misunderstand, particularly people who are not into the arts and are not blessed with creative talents and abilities. They think of the artist as this individual living out a sort of bohemian lifestyle not tied down to the monotony of everyday life and that we live some kind of a charmed life, like in a sitcom or a movie when that's further from the truth. I do have a day job as a grade school teacher and i still had to worry about bills to pay and stuff like that. I think the artist best reflects the attitude that all of must approach life which is to move forward and by pushing things we do that. Sure most of it may not work and may result in something that doesn't elicit approval and oftentimes controversial but i'd rather that something new is being created that is not the norm rather than regurgitating something that's already there and that works, which unfortunately is not the case with mainstream entertainment aka Hollywood and tv.

On one hand normal people think that we live a cool life but on the other hand they call us eccentric and weird but i think that's part of being an artist. I mean, what artist isn't eccentric or weird right?
